NYS Ice Pro-Am Tournament Update

Recommended Posts

We are currently restructuring the rule set to include two sets of rules/regs: one for the Open Division and one for the Pro-Am Division. This will make it easier for anglers to distinguish which rules apply to each Division. After working out a few more logistics we will be able to announce the 2014 dates for the events - stay tuned!! Also, we still have some awesome apparel items on sale that can be bought at: http://www.nysiceproam.com/Pro-AmStore/Registration-2.html

Plano and Frabill will once again be headlining the series and providing a substantial amount of product for the prize structures, making this year's series once again the largest in the NE USA!

We received a huge shipment from Plano this week - gonna take all day tomorrow to move, inventory, and organize it all!! Heading down to Chautauqua Lake area on Monday to get everything set-up for the first IPA event in January. 1,000 fliers are now spread across the state and we'll soon be working on the next 1,000. Look for a 1/2 page ad to be in the next couple issues of ODU Magazine and banners to be put up at all three locations over the next couple months.

Don't forget, pre-register before December 1st to be entered into the promo drawings!!

Can't wait to fish chautauqua event. Lake has been completely covered for several days now. I see that white perch are included in the small fish divison. There is also a good population of Silver bass which many get confused with each other. On chautauqua although not in the past several years we have caught silver bass up to 17 inches. Just bringing that to your intention because I am sure many would misidentify the two species especially because many of the silver bass lines are sometimes not as pronounced on chautauqua as compared to Erie. It seems you guys are doing a knockout job with these events and a 2000k first place prize is awesome. Just wanted to bring this to your attention because I want to see the events go as smooth as possible for you guys.

I see in the rules there is a ten point bonus for a grand slam. What will a grand slam consist of? I see it will be announced at the captains meeting so I am assuming it will be a suprise. Could you give a pass example. The one thing that cool about this tournament is that you have to catch multiple species which makes your decision on were to start fishing tough.

For the Chautauqua event most of the year calico fishing is tough during the day, but since fishing starts at 5am you might have a good shot to catch some before daybreak. The only problem with that is you are now hurting your chances at getting a walleye.

Usually the Grand Slam requires you to catch one of each species in the tournament. For Chautauqua it will be one of each of the following: Walleye, Perch (yellow or white), Sunfish, Bluegill, Crappie, and Rock Bass. Not an easy feat for sure!! But then again, a 10 pt bonus is a substantial reward too! With the notion that you need to fish for multiple species, team's need to have a good game plan going into these events. No doubt, it's a challenge!!

Today is the last day to pre-register and get in on the 2nd round of promotional drawings! We will also be updating the Chautauqua Prize listings with links to the Triple Crown Prize Package as well as the two raffle packages. This year's prize packages are sick, and when the prize cash checks are added to them, they will be some of the largest prize packages given out on the ice this season!!

We are very confident that Chautauqua Lake will have safe ice for our first event. Anyone fishing that event can receive 10% off all purchases (including bait) at Chautauqua Guide & Tackle that weekend! They also kicked in a 1/2 day charter for us to give away! Also, everyone pre-registered for the Tupper Lake Event by Jan. 13 will be entered into a drawing for free lodging for two anglers for two nights at Shaheen's Motel!

Sodus now has safe ice across the entire bay with anglers fishing most locations. Tupper Lake also has safe ice, so it is looking good for ice this year!! Let's hope the current pattern holds and keeps the ice all season long!!

We will be posting ice and weather forecasts for the Chautauqua Event starting next weekend. Tune into our website at www.NYSiceproam.com to keep up with all the latest tournament information!

The next IPA event will be Tupper Lake in a couple weeks. If you've never fished this lake before, it is an awesome fishery with pike and lake trout to 30 lbs, walleye into the upper teens (the DEC has shocked and seen several eyes that would make the new NYS record), plus tons of panfish. We have another $25,000 in prizes to offload at this event, including 70 door prizes! If we hit 800 anglers someone will be owning a brand new 2014 Polaris Sportsman 550 ATV!! Gotta get in it to win it!!

Only $30/angler in the general Open Division, $160/team for the Pro-Am Team event. See ya there!!

This coming Monday is the last day to pre-register for the Tupper Lake event. If you have never fished this waterway, it is an amazing fishery with huge Walleye, Lake Trout, and Pike. Shaheen's still has rooms available if you haven't booked your hotel yet. Also, the Franklin House Tavern in Sodus has rooms available for $65/person/night if anyone needs lodging for the Sodus Pro-Am Event on the 22nd and 23rd. They have also come through with a great sponsorship for the event! Both events are drawing lots of attention and are looking to be sizable events this year!!

Sodus looks to have a great turn-out as we approach 200 anglers. Final registration is tomorrow from 3-7am. We'll have 25 pro-am teams going for the $2400+ 1st place prize package including (2) Ice Armour Extreme Suits this weekend! 9 of the teams will be going for the Series Triple Crown Title! The pressure is on and the competition will be fierce!!

Next year's dates to be posted soon! Looks like we will be running two large, full IPA events and two smaller team-only events. Plus, we are putting together a state-wide, month and a half long tournament you'll definitely want to get in: the NYS Winter Classic!! More details to come after we secure the weigh-in stations/locations, but imagine a tournament with 7 categories, where you can fish anywhere in NYS on any waterway (open water, ice, tributaries). Updates can be found on our website at: www.NYSiceproam.com

Good luck this open water season!!
