Fishing out of Fair Haven

My dad and I are extremely new to trolling.  So far we have only caught 1 king on Lake Ontario.  We are going fishing out of Fair Haven tomorrow and I am wondering what depths we should be fishing at.  We have downriggers and we've been fishing four rods out with flashers and flies on two of them and spoons on the other two.  Since we only have two flashers and two flies for starters, we don't have a choice on flasher colors, but what color spoons should we be using?  Thanks in advance for the help.

We're out here fishing near all the other boats an listening to others catching on the radio while we are out here catching absolutely nothing, don't know what we're doing wrong

Don't feel bad....there are SO MANY details involved in successful trolling for lake Ontario salmon...I'm sure you are only a few thousand $'s in equipment and a few hundred hours of experience away from catching them consistently...

 

If it makes you feel any better, those guys you hear on the radio catching them, if they were on your boat working with what you have..they would be lucky to catch one as well. 

 

About all the advice I can give you for today is, DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. What you are doing is not working...change speed, direction, lures, depth, set back, etc etc etc.....change things until something works, and take note of what detail made the difference.

Actually, we headed over to owasco lake a caught a nice 24" lake trout!

wow! yes you did!  we had to leave quickly because we were late for something, but you told us about using the flashers and flies.  thanks, by the way.

Nope, that's going to be our winter project.  We are fishing out of our 20' proline cc and trying desperately to catch some salmon.  We are going to be out on sunday morning.
