  1. Hey - have you tried Jigging for Lake trout and browns? It’s a lot of fun because it’s just you and the fish with no gear or boat in the middle of the fight. I assume you have a decent fish finder and with it, you can find the fish on the bottom or suspended in the lake. Happy to share some spots with you to start on Cayuga but I haven’t done much Jigging on Seneca. My advice is to start here (link below) - lots of info on How to Jig for lake trout and if you want advice on gear to use, let me know. https://web.archive.org/web/20181005045019/http://cayugafisher.net/pages/resdex.php I use a Field and Stream Tech Spec rod with a torrent bait caster reel. My mainline is 20lb PowerPro braid and a 10 foot long 10-12lb fluorocarbon leader tied on with a UNI to Uni knot. I recently learned some people use an FG knot though so I’m gonna try that soon. I use Berkeley Vanish Fluorocarbon but you can choose your favorite brand. You’ll want to use braid as a mainline so you can feel the fish and not the stretch jigging in 100 FOW. You can start with a 1oz Jighead with a good hook and some flukes. I put a picture of what a good hook looks like vs a bad hook after catching fish on both. I use Zoom flukes - white and white Ice are always a good bet to start with - pic below. Chartreuse works to some days and any colors you troll with can be good. Lunker City - Shakers and Swimfish are good too sometimes. Feel free to ask any questions or DM me, happy to help. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  3. Here's some more details for those interested - https://www.lansingstar.com/news-page/16457-mine-conducting-seismic-testing-in-lake?fbclid=IwAR2BhEDi9dkIbRuoImzmk5ygEbJpvpyUPUwPKpGHuJMlHWGM5-1cW87rUAE
  4. Here’s a 8 second video of the vessel in 4K for anyone interested. Recorded about half a mile south of Longpoint. I wanted to capture how loud the boom was when the thing behind the boat made it. It was much louder than the phone recorded it. I see the manned dingy turn away a pleasure boat that was about to run over the cable, then 10 minutes later I saw a bass boat go right between the buoys at full speed, didn’t seem affected so I assume he didn’t hit the cable but it seemed very unsafe to me. 5. Also went jigging yesterday morning - launched at longpoint and fished from 6:15 am till 9:30 am - ended up with 10 lakers between two of us - 90fow. All fish came in front of college. Biggest was 29.5 inches. I’ll post more pics when I get to a better service area. Note - depth is wrong on the FF because it was detecting bait as bottom. 6. I’ll X (don’t know what number we’re up to) Longpoint state park and deans cove, if you launch at Longpoint then the college is a 15 minute paddle north and some of the best laker jigging on the lake (caught 6 there jigging last weekend). Deans Cove is also great and after fishing the college we motored over there directly in front of deans in 50-75fow and caught 2 more after 11am. Sheldrake point is also great although I haven’t been there yet this year (maybe this weekend). All great laker jigging locations. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. I went out of Longpoint today and there is some debris floating but overall it was good. Caught 8 lakers jigging between 3 of us. There were people trolling as well. Water was clear as day in most spots. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Am I reading it right? It says that my 16.5 foot aluminum deep V with an outboard motor and “open construction” does not require a fire extinguisher on Cayuga? https://parks.ny.gov/recreation/boating/documents/NYSBoatersGuide.pdf - page 24 “Fire Extinguishers All mechanically propelled vessels, except outboards less than 26 feet in length and of open construction, must carry one B-I US Coast Guard approved fire extinguisher. Mechanically propelled vessels 26 feet to less than 40 feet in length must carry two B-I US Coast Guard approved fire extin- guishers. Mechanically propelled vessels 40 feet to less than 65 feet in length must carry three B-I US Coast Guard approved fire extinguishers. Vessels 65 feet and greater in length should consult federal regulations. On any vessel, one B-II extinguisher may substitute for two B-I extinguishers. Vessels equipped with approved fixed extinguishing systems may carry one less B-I extinguisher. Beyond the previously mentioned requirements fire extinguishers are also required whenever: a vessel is equipped with an inboard engine, where there are enclosed or permanently mounted fuel tanks on board, when there are enclosed living spaces, or there are closed stowage compartments in which combustible or flammable materials are stored. The most common types of fire extinguishers are dry chemical and carbon dioxide. Dry chemical extinguishers are for use on fires caused by flammable liquids such as fuel or grease (class B fires) and electrical fires (class C). Carbon dioxide is good on combustible solids (class A fires) such as paper or wood as well as class B and C fires. All of these” Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  15. I’m at a cottage this week about half a mile from longpoint. Went out an hour ago up to aurora. I didn’t run into any debris near longpoint. There was a ton yesterday but it’s all cleared out now. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
