  2. BTW, for inquiring minds, I kept a large silver bass this weekend and ate it next to walleye and could not tell the difference. Tastes exactly the same.
  3. Will be fishing the tournament at the Oak this weekend. If anyone wants whole, cold fish and can come get them late afternoons Friday through Sunday shoot me a PM.
  4. Today
  5. I was out from 6:30 to 7:30 with my jigging rod. Looked from 60 to 180 and didn’t see any hooks or bait.
  6. When you come into Olcott harbor downwind of the rock pile that protects the harbor from north winds the stench is incredible.
  7. First of all congrats on your results! yes Pete D'Urso the owner and maker of Elmer Hinckley spoons fished with me again this year and those spoons were on fire for everyone and especially the 22's, 777's 88's and 35's. They are the best spoons I have ever used in over 70 years of fishing. For the last couple years or more they are all I use despite having thousands of spoons collected over these many years. Like most folks I too have been guilty of selecting eye candy that appeals to humans but who knows what the fish think of them I was a die hard Sutton guy for years on the Fingers but after experiencing the EH's I have total faith in them. The results of many folks that contacted us during the derby reinforced this. I am convinced that the current plating and action of these spoons that were initially designed and developed in the late 1800's right here on Canandaigua Lake by a contemporary of Scott Sutton both of whom lived in Naples, N.Y. are perfect for this environment. Pete has taken them to a new level as these spoons are not automated on a production line they are hand made and assembled by him. The hammering can be adjusted to be lighter or deeper too. My fishing buddy Bob and I have used them on Lake O with wonderful results on multi trout and salmon species too. They held up without any problems. Many of the painted spoons out there are using standard blanks with much heavier appearance and function in the water. Again, the "eye candy" human attraction is paramount with them in my opinion. These flutter spoons show up way in back of the boat, and the action much more resembles a wounded bait me to me anyway. Some of the current users of EH's are probably a little irked at me for even mentioning them here as they probably consider them as "secret weapons" but when I find things work I enjoy sharing the info here in furtherance of the sport.. MEATMAN your LOU handle is vaguely familiar but if you send me a PM with your name and maybe a little info about where it was Im pretty sure I will remember you. Thanks for letting me know about your results with the EH's. The wind was our main enemy in this derby and I congratulate the winners for their persistence. Unfortunately, we were unable get get anything over 8 lbs.
  8. Get'm all and move on to the geese!
  9. Fished with a friend this morning out of Hughes Marina. The place has been inundated with cormorants. Hundreds of birds in the trees, which are now completely white from their droppings. When we returned to the dock about 11:00 we noticed a couple dead cormorants in the area near the boat ramp. I noticed two men in shirts with USDA on them. They were picking up brass from 22 shells. They said that they had killed about 100 birds. I saw them take a few more as I watched. Hope they keep this up.

  17. This morning everything was hidden in some serious fog, so I chose to do some maintenance and cleaning until the fog would burn off. That took to about noon I finished playing with transducers and the end result is that the 600 watt Airmar is a better choice than the 1kw. The cone on the 600 is wider, which at the depth we work at, is what I need. Going out to check it , I found that the temperatures went way up. Over 130 feet the surface at 57 and 50 foot down 54.7. I did not look for a thermocline but it might be setting up. Bait was plentyful at 50 down over a hundred feet. In the 2 hours on the water I managed one steelhead and one king, neither of them very big. It was my first steelhead of the year

  21. Catawba Island Marine Transport - Mark Bechtel. He hauled a 33' Tiara for me from Sheboygan Wisconsin to Oswego NY. I was slightly flexible on delivery dates which helped him find a load to back haul from Buffalo back west which reduced my overall cost some. 24. I heard you fished with Pete during the derby. We caught quite a few fish on Hinckley 22's silver/gold hammered including the 2nd place Brown. I won the 1st in lake trout division on a Sutton 31. Not sure if you remember me or not, it has been a couple of years since we last chatted.
  25. It's not that they're "not smart enough" it's more a case of allowing themselves, or wanting to, get excited over the presentation more than the content. i.e, it's simple, it's loud, it's said with a laugh, it's repeated. etc. "One Awe sh[t wipes out 10 "Atta boys!"
