2013 Starcraft Fishmaster 196 (Hours / Miles)

My 2013 Starcraft Fishmaster 196 with 4 months to go to finish the 2024 season at this point has 10,997 miles recorded on my Simrad Autopilot log checked today and 3,100 hours on the previous 150 hp Mercury and repowered 200 hp Mercury 5 years ago combined. Is it fair to say it gets some use?

Early salmon

Headed up to the salmon river after work on Thursday with friends to see if we could find some early runners before the crowds arrive. There were definitely a decent number upriver but, with the beautiful clear skies, they were not moving much. I did manage to get lucky with a couple of hookups and landed this nice female king on a blue estaz fly, probably about 18#, and let her go to finish her mission. Lots of mosquitoes with this warm water so be prepared.

Sturgeon while fishing for Perch

I was fishing for Perch on Monday and this Sturgeon hit a nightcrawler. I was lucky enough to have another bigger one on for 15 minutes, until the hook popped.

These are amazing fish.

I heard rumors the DEC have been talking about a open season on Sturgeon. I don't think i would want that. Love the fight and beauty of these fish and quick release

Great trip to the Cape

Spent last week in Cape Cod and rented a kayak to fish from as usual. Reports were terrible so I headed out rigged up with only a big Zara spook and a pair of pliers just in case. Saw a few swirls in shallow 3’ water so began casting around. I caught so many striped bass from that day on that every one of my treble hooks was eventually ripped off the lure. This was a saltwater Spook with stainless hardware and I only fished 3 days for under 2 hrs each time since this was a family vacation. Landed 29 stripers and lost more than half that number besides. Many bigger 24-27” schoolies with a dozen slot size and bigger. Don’t listen to reports if you want to do some Striper fishing this fall, they are certainly around in good numbers.

Fished yesterday 7-19 between sodus point and fairhaven, 300 ft of water most fish 100 to 130 ft 45 ish water temp was the best used spoons and flys

Went to White Lake Provincial Park camping. It’s between Marathon and White River Ont. I’ve never caught so many fish. Mostly pike and a few pickerel. Minimum 3 a day or for 3-4 hours. I caught a larger one than this but I didn’t have a landing net. I went and bought one the next day. I kept this one but mostly catch and release.

Had a great evening trip out of the Oak Monday night. Everyone on the boat had a chance to real in their own king. Family was from Arizona so this was a rare, exciting experience for them all. Super fun seeing all their smiling faces and the excitement of the young ones.

Cayuga lakers 7/25

The wife and I took our nephew trolling for lakers on Cayuga, his first time. Picked up a nice dozen. Biggest one was 27 3/4 inches, with a couple more at 27. Caught on cowbells, yellow and purple. Green/yellow spoon on the yellow cowbell and pink/white spoon on the purple one. It was a perfect day, flat water, not too hot.

Spent a cloudy 4th of July weekend morning trolling and landing lakers left and right. Many double headers, some successfully and others not. This rainbow hit on the front end of my last double header of the morning while heading in, my PB on the lake. Put on an aerial show with multiple cartwheels before landing it and releasing to fight another day. Happy Independence Day everyone.

Finally got our "new" 1998 Carolina Classic 25 out on Lake Ontario last weekend for the first shakedown trip. Only fished for about 4 hours, landed 2 Lake Trout, 2 Kings and this above average Coho.

Was able to get out with dad for a couple hours first thing. Bay and lake were perfectly flat. We set up just off the pier and went west to Maxwell. 1 one a green and yellow stickbait before we where completely set up. Another just as the water started going green before the creek. Both motors ran great. New planer mast and boards worked well. Need some tweeks but they should be easy to do. Overall great first trip

Someone I previously respected in the NY fishery for being one of the "best" perch anglers once said that 15" perch are extremely rare and that he had seen very few true 15"ers from NY. So, after learning the fishery the last couple years, I thought I would start a gallery for the 15"+ jumbos to hit the deck this year and we'll see just how amazing our fishery is here in NY. Here's the first one for 2023!

For me personally, you just can’t beat fall. Salmon off the piers, deer hunting, musky chasing, float fishing and waterfowl(which I haven’t gotten around to yet, but will). Nothing beats that crisp cool air and the opportunities that await. Enjoy some of my highlights so far.

650+ lb Bluefin Tuna Adventure

Had the amazing opportunity this past weekend to travel to Maine to target shark and bluefin tuna. I was invited by one of my educational charter clients to join him for a day, but then got upgraded to a larger boat with one of his friends who had an extra seat for an overnight trip. In the middle of the night while trying to jig up some squid, we hooked up on the main rod rigged with a live Pogie. For the first 10 minutes it stayed deep without doing much, and we thought we had hooked into a large shark. Then it streaked to the surface and made a massive run! We knew we had a large tuna on at that point and began what would be an almost 2-hr battle until we tail-roped it. Once in the boat it measured 101" and weighed an estimated 650-700 lbs! Back at the dock it became the talk of the town with people coming from all over to see it as we all waited for the market truck to arrive to process the fish and get an official dressed weight - 519 lbs! One of the largest caught this season in that area, a fish of a lifetime! An unbelievable experience!!

Tutorial: How to Post Your Pictures

You want to share your photos with the community but are not sure how. No problem. This step by step tutorial will walk you through exactly how to post your own pictures on Lake Ontario United.

There are TWO ways to post pictures on LOU.

The First Way (and the easiest way)

Simply click on the "Start New Topic, Reply to this topic or Use Full Editor (quick reply)" option to bring up the full post editor. After that, click on the ATTACHMENTS option below the post body and upload your images.

The Second Way

Setting up PhotoBucket Account. We need to make our images available on the Internet. Having them on your personal computer is not good enough so what we are going to do is setup an account with PhotoBucket that will host our images ONLINE for us!

1.) Visit PhotoBucket.com and register for an account or sign in if you already have one.

2.) Under where it says "Chose an Image" you will see a "Browse" button. Click on the "Browse" button and select the picture on your computer that you would like to upload.

3.) Once the image from your computer has been selected, click "Open".

4.) Then simply press the "UPLOAD" button.

5.) Your image will upload to the website and you will receive a confirmation message saying "Your Images have Uploaded!"

Simple right? Ok, so now we have taken the images from your computer and put them on our Photobucket account. Now we want to share this image with members of the LOU community.

1.) Log into your photobucket account if you are not already.

2.) Scroll down to the bottom and you will see all the images you have uploaded. Click on the "IMG Code" text. This will AUTOMATICALLY copy the image code for you.

3.) Paste the image code into your message on the LOU Forum.

The code that you paste into your message will look similar to this (but longer):

That's it! Nothing to it and its very convenient and beneficial to both parties. Plus, you can use your photobucket account to post images on virtually any other message board out there.

I hope this little tutorial helps and please private message me with any questions you might have.

Annual trip down to my fathers in Ft Myers Fla. went 50 miles offshore on Wednesday and had a great day throwing tubes at Barracudas and hauling Amberjacks and African pompano up with pin fish and squid.

So the shop I work at is closing their doors permanently sometime in the next year or 2 and has me and the wife trying to decide what to do from here.....

So outta curiosity if you could move anywhere as 35 yr old and family where would you go? Jobs fishing and education all considered.

Even in NY...where's some good towns with good taxes and jobs within let's say 1.5 hr from Ontario or erie...prefer to live in country...

Well, this guy went belly up at dads pond so I went to the rescue. Tried to revive him for about 10 min but he was past the point. Reminded me of a late stager cause he had a "mush" to him. Old grass eater was over 25 years old. Sure made my son's day to see a slob like this though. Almost 40#, 43 1/2". He will be repurposed into a hand made recurve covering and potentially a quiver if there's enough left.

Left the dock at 6:30, lines in the water at 7:00, off Aurora. Started off with a double, caught fish every 10 minutes for an hour till the cooler was full. My twins reeled them all in. The largest one was 28.5" long. Cowbells on downriggers.

Nice day saturday on Cayuga. Started out at Dean's Cove and got skunked. Headed toward Aurora and had 4 lakers on. Lost one. 3 on cowbells off the downrigger (had a double), 1 on white flasher fly on a dipsy.
