Anyone know if the northwest Port Bay launch is open? And any info on other no charge launches closest to there? I like Port Bay because of how quiet it usually is and super quick access to the big lake, but the road to the launch does beat up my car so considering other options this year. Thanks for any info!

sometimes the lines get clogged from bugs to spider webs. on a couple of motors that weren't getting any flow, I used a large piece of weedeater line and ran it up the pee hole until I hit the blockage. I kept moving the line in and out hitting the clog hard until it gave way and I ran the line all the way in and did the back and forth. water was already coming out around the line and when I removed the line the water was dark green until all the crap came out. one motor had set for a couple of years but both were stopped up with green moss. I have had quite a few motors over my 45 years boating not pee until I opened them up. at first, I used a small wire to unstop the water line. but about 15 years ago I started using the Weedealine. to answer your question the water should be coming out within the 1st 60 to 90 seconds. but if the pee tube has anything in the tube it may take a little longer or not at all. to explain it better the thermostat has nothing at all to do with the pee tube. the water doesn't ever enter the inside of the motor. it has its own line running by the motor and next to the exhaust tubes that heat the water up. the water gets hot from the exhaust, not from the motor. the pee tube water is a bypass to let water flow so the operator knows it's pumping water. taking a short time the water is next to the exhaust tubes which heats it up. if it's slow to start flowing the water will get hot and cause the steam. be sure if it isn't flowing after a couple of minutes to run something up the pee hole all the way up. it doesn't hurt your motor to run it without water for a few minutes as it takes a while for the motor to get hot enough to hurt it. when I clean the line I run the motor so the water pressure helps clean the line as I break up the clog. if the motor is running and you're worried it is overheating just carefully put your hand against the head to see how hot it is. it shouldn't be near hot enough to burn you. my tip of the day is to use a set of muffs that has water going to both sides. with any muffs make sure they are covering the water intake on the motor. be sure to turn the water supply as much as it will go. some people think they will blow out the impeller and only turn the water on about halfway. they don't ever think about the pressure from the lake going 40 or 50 MPH. it is so much more pressure than any water supply. if you watch the water coming out the muffs with a warm motor you will actually see the amount of water being much less than it was.

I had some service and electronics work done to my boat this spring at Krenzer's and when I got the call that it was all ready to go and seeing Monday's weather report, I couldnt pass up a quick shakedown trip. Got on the water around 1 PM in Wilson and spent about an hour playing around with the new electronics. Put out a 3 rod spread in 80 FOW straight outta port. Water was a perfect green sorta trapped between two mudlines. Fished from 2PM - 5PM and pulled three good kings and missed a rigger bite that never came tight. Bay Rat LXD in green/yellow (cant afford it maybe?) 200ft back on an inline and 31 rigger with a mag DW game over took the fish. Kings were 10, 12, and 14 lbs on the handheld scale. Also, shout out to Rick at Krenzer's for doing a heck of a job on the electronics install. He handled everything start to finish on suggesting new stuff, re-utilizing old stuff, and custom fitting all the installs. Turned out great. Boat is back in the barn and I will be back to Wilson in a few weeks. Also, fished the AM of Tuesday 4/16 and couldnt buy a king bite to save my life, the good water moved in or out or east or west, not sure but I couldnt find a king willing to bite, and lakers and browns really arent my thing.

I have 3 copper and 3 wire diver reels to respool but can never keep enough tension on the spools. Ordered a bees knees spooler but its on backorder. Are there any experienced line spoolers with copper and wire in Rochester that will do this? I want to get them done asap and I have all the line ready to go

I replaced the thermostat and changed the oil twice. Will fill again tonight and run it and post what I find.

Put it in a trash barrel and see if it's any different. When I use muffs, I wrap a bungee around it tight but it is still slow to stream.

Does anyone know of a clear epoxy that has a long shelf life. I have been using KBS Clear Diamond, but it will harden up in 3 to 4 months.

Yes the Gobies are less of a problem in weedy/muddy areas, I agree.. however, the majority of Cayuga Lake is rocky bottom.. Go anywhere on the lake that has rock/pebble/broken bottom and try fishing anywhere near bottom, and you'll see what I mean.. I typically don;t fish the north end of the lake, and I hear the gobies aren't as bad there, but as far as the area from Long Point south to Ithaca the bottom is covered with them, and they have deeply impacted the numbers of other species...

Could be the thermostat. I just replaced the one in my 60 HP Merc and it is flowing good again. It was down to a trickle, then would flow weak, then stop altogether.

I run 32# copper on Daiwa 57Lc3bs which is pretty much the same size. Like it was mentioned above, you can get over 200 yards of cheap 50# braid and 300 ft of 32# copper on there. You can probably get close to 300 yards of backer if you went down to 40# and ran a thinner braid like power pro. When I dont know the exact capacity, I fill one reel the hard way putting the copper on first and then filling up with braid to just over 100% and then taking it off, transferring it to another spool with a drill and winding it back on braid first. I use a clamp on line counter when the braid goes on so I have a reference for future reels. This is not fun but I really dont like reels that arent full nor do I like running 286 feet of copper because I put too much backer on.

Went out for an afternoon and started in 30 -50 ft. 3color leadcore went 1st 10 minutes with a green jean moonshine. Leadcore conitued to produce salmon today and green jeans was the kings choice of lure today. DIvers were quiet and I kept changing patterns and depths but could not get them to fire. 1st time all season they have not been the consistent producer. Had the smart troll working on the divers and drop weights off the boards and that is going to be key when fishiing deeper water. Had 2 lakers on high boards (8ft/40ft.) one tipping the scales over 15 lbs. Couple football browns toward the end of the afternoon in 30 ft. All spoon program today. We ran out to 100 ft. to look and there was a lot of debris out there but no fish until we came back to 50ft, Water temp was 45 degrees. Speed was 2.2-2.4 .

I used braid backer and got 300’ of copper on the 40’s I Found a good reel calculator on line, it is an excel format. I used that reel filler for all my reels. The wire was off a little, reel was probably 90% full. All the copper and leadcore were really close to the calculation. I also have a South Chatham reel spooler with a digital counter. Worked out well for me. Blood run copper Berkeley big game mono power pro braid 40’s Backing Braid 50# 225 yards 50# Mono splice (for release) 5 yards 32# Copper 100 yards (300’) 50# Mono Leader 5 yards Calculator said reel is 101% looking at it I would say it’s like 97% full. 50’s Backing Braid 50# 250 yards 50# mono splice 5 yards 32# Copper 133.3 yards (400’) 50# Mono Leader 5 yards Calculator said reel is 100.20% full. I’d say it’s 100%

I think the state record bass was just caught in Cayuga again. There are lots of bass in Cayuga. I know guys that travel some distance to crush large panfish up on the north end in the weeds. If you’re fishing off a rock on the shore in Ithaca , then I could absolutely see why u catch less fish than 20 years ago. Water is clearer and the fish are deeper. Cayuga is def not devoid of life, its fishing better than I can ever remember.
