  2. Just add a kicker and you will not need a tow.
  3. I live in southern NJ and tow my 23’ boat up to Lake Ontario every summer. I have subscribed to BoatUS (Towboat) for years, including the trailer coverage, and have been very happy with their coverage. First, let me say that I renew my subscription every year at a boat or sport show with a BoatUS booth where I save $50 on the annual price. I have used the plan services three times over the years with no complaints, including twice on the same trip. One year my trailer suffered a broken leaf spring on I-81. I called the service number, gave them the information on my problem and location, and had a flatbed on site within an hour. On the same trip, about 10 days later fishing out of Port Ontario, I stupidly ran out of two stroke oil about six miles out in the lake. I called Towboat and asked that they just bring me a gallon of two stroke oil. It took about 45 minutes for the red boat out of Oswego to get to me. He wouldn’t bring me a gallon of oil, but he did tow me back to the Lighthouse Marina. Both times, the service cost me nothing but a signature. The third time, two years ago fishing out of Oak Orchard, I lost my hydraulic steering while out on the lake. Made the call to Towboat and had the red boat from Oneida Marine in Rochester come all the way out and tow me back to the Orleans Co. Marine Park at no cost to me. So if you ask me, BoatUS Towboat is a bargain! I guess any insurance is expensive UNTIL YOU NEED IT! Personally, I like the peace of mind it gives me.
  4. Progressive has sign and glide for $100. I decided to get full coverage for couple hundred more
  5. Today
  6. i used boat us for years and ended up saving some money. I used almost every service they offered. my outdrive crashed at Geneve Oh so I called the number on my card and that's all I had to do. it did take almost 2 hours for the towboat to reach me. when we got back to the marina the cost was 610.00 but I paid with my signature. I lost the tire and wheel off my trailer on I-75 just a few miles south of the KY state line. it was me and my younger brother returning home in IN. we didn't know what we were going to do. a cop had come by and said it had to be moved now or he would call their tow service which usually costs double. then I thought about my trailer assist and called boat us again. wasn't long before a flatbed came and got our boat and took it back to their shop. again, all I paid was with my signature. next, I had a flat on my F350 SD 4 DOOR CREW CAB going through the drive-through at Hardies. again I called Boat Us. They found a service on their list but he had to be paid up front by us. I needed a new tire so he brought me a tire and mounted it and put it back on my truck. they charged Boat Us 375.00 for just the service call plus I paid for the tire and the mounting fee which should have been paid by boat us in their service fee.
  7. Towing out of Rochester, 25 mile service area. https://www.boatus.com/towboatus/rochester
  8. Fish out of Sandy Creek in Hamlin and 90% of the season, you can find plenty of kings without breaking 150' of water. If you have a port with good structure, kings will be there if the bait is there. 2020, we fished inside of 120' for kings most of the season.
  9. I'll reply to this for fun, I once asked a charter this same question and he laughed at me, took a couple years to get the joke. Location, time of year, depth, like recent post could be 40 ft could be 400 foot stagers could be caught right at river mouth. Right now they are catching them in 50 foot of water and sometimes less. So for you with a 17 foot boat probably now is the time to get out there because those salmon won't stay in shallow for long this time of year,,,and with a 17 foot boat no way I would go offshore with it but that's just me.
  10. I’d call tow US and pay for it, then send in receipts for reimbursement. The best bet is to “phone a friend” for quicker tow. Only 1 boat that I know of on the south shore. Maybe that changed
  11. Most Yamahas I’ve dealt with haven’t liked muffs very much, definitely stronger stream with a barrel or tub
  12. I did call my insurance company and they do have good rates but you need to pay for tow then they reimburse you. My understanding is this may cost a couple thousand dollars. Also, who do you call for a tow if you go this route? Call 911, or coast guard?
  13. Same situation for me while Island camping in the St. Lawrence. Tow Boat told me 3-4 hrs. I drifted to shore and tied up to a tree, next to a private launch. The owner allowed me the time to walk 3 mi to my truck and come back and use his launch. I did all this in under 3 hrs. Never renewed with TowBoat.
  14. Does anyone run an Airmar P66 transducer for their Humminbird? If so do you see an improvement over the stock HB transducer? It was suggested to run this transducer over the stock transducer for my Helix 9. It will be for trolling on a 196 Fishmaster on Lake O. Thanks, Rick
  15. I used to subscribe to it till I called my insurance company and they said save the receipt and they’ll reimburse me if I need a tow. Some years ago off Wilson, my coupler went and tow US said about 4 hours. Luckily Lucas F came out and got me with the boat he was fishing on. Point is, call your insurance company.
  16. They Game Wardens are also in the same PBA as the Park Police,SUNY Cops, and Forest Ranges so none of us are getting it. But she can give 22 million for free AC units. https://cbs6albany.com/news/local/nys-program-providing-free-air-conditioning-units-for-certain-households-this-summer-home-energy-assistance-program-heap-new-york-medical-condition-heat-wave-seasons-hot-weather
  17. Perch fishing is pretty much a spring(spawn) and fall thing. Not to say they can’t be caught all season but once spawn is over and water warms they move deeper and are less concentrated. Also once walleye season opens many start to target the eyes. Peak perch fishing is now. Lake Erie has a lot to offer and is worth a try if you haven’t checked it out. Hard to beat a platter of walleye or perch when it hits the table. I rarely have people not take walleye. They don’t have the glamor or line ripping runs of a king, but they taste good fried or baked.
  18. Great results Anthony and thanks for the report! Cool too that the Elmer Hinckley 88 came through for you. They are great spoons and especially at that speed.
  19. It will come to light in the coming days. I am sure Dan Ladd of the Outdoor News will be all over this. In light of how Cuomo passed the Safe Act in the middle of the night, people need to be tipped off early.
  20. Size is not an indication overall numbers. The south shore of Lake Ontario has never recovered its population from the 80s and 90s. That is directly related to the gobies. Also, the Smallmouth are still spawning in Cayuga, LO and SLR in June/early July. Many of these "big bags" are bedding fish! Including the big one caught in Cayuga a couple years ago. There are tons of recent studies on the impact of removing fish from beds, even temporarily during C&R tournements.
  21. I saw the wireless kits but I have not spoken to anyone that has one. Let me know if it works out. I did speak to a company that is making new wired remotes for $360 they said they will have them available soon.
  22. Any chance there's some way to corroborate? I can't find anything supportive online, and while I obviously appreciate what you're saying, it's tough to go in guns-a-blazing without solid premise. Thanks!
  23. Several years ago I broke down on the water near Galloo and although Tow Boat did not have a boat close, they did reimburse me for having to use a marina out of Henderson. They are the AAA on the water and their operators are pros.
  24. mr580 Thanks for the good info. Although i love LO fishing, browns, targeting steelies, and salmon, not real fan of salmon for table fare, except maybe the silvers. Think I'm gonna have to make a trip or two to Erie this year. Are the perch available all season or is there a certain time for the hot bite like now that fisherman become tight lipped?
  25. It does pretty good. I hold a little more tension wearing a glove to hold it back. I also add a little more line then needed. Then I go out on the lake, let out 90 percent of the line with a tripped dipsy. Crank it back in and it’s nice and tight.
