I heard about the evening releases. 5PM will help, but still gives those birds time to feed. I stocked up on bottle rockets in PA recently and will be ready for them.

I really wish the DEC would put more pressure on the feds to regulate their population. The Canadian side has opened a season.

We releasing 37k browns for Sandy in the evening to help minimize the time birds will have to hover immediately following the release.

Some good flocks of them in I-Bay also. Not good news for the browns with the direct stocking coming up

I fish solo most of the time in a 17 footer. I use the s clip set up and anything over 8 feet is difficult to unclip the diver and keep the line tight

Standard rings with a twilly tip will work fine. I would be concerned that a shorter rod doesnt have enough forgiveness for a diver especially a large one. Big advantage in running a longer leader with a longer rod as well as working fish around riggers, outboards etc. A short one will work fine I'm sure but most of the rods specifically designed for wire divers are 9 or better. I think all of mine are 10 footers. Most of my shorter freshwater rods designed for trolling dont have near enough backbone for a diver. If you have some heavier ones they should work fine. If you arent sure, run your TDR. At least if something goes wrong you arent out an expensive rod.

I have no need to overcompensate . 7 foot has been fine with braid.
