  2. Exactly this. I don’t use a fish hawk because it’s just not worth the extra few fish it would catch me for the cost. Rarely have I gone out and not marked a consistent depth they’re at. Especially end of August. What I can’t do is measure the speed of my lure at that depth. Oh well. I don’t think this to be the case with the technology we have now. I think a recent depth finder marks the fish if they’re there, especially when talking about king salmon and their size. My opinion. Over the last few years I’ve had success with minimal gear, perseverance and the help from generous people on this site. I wouldn’t over think it. Keep it simple. And keep it safe. That time of year is when people go out at all costs to catch a fish and lives are lost because of it.
  3. So even if the marks are not there doesn't mean the fish are not there correct? Do you not see them on a graph when mixed in at the thermocline?
  4. Never had it happen always wondered the same thing. We did catch our own net one time buddy dropped it in a minute later the outside downrigger pops " net on" reeled it in and netted the fish we were fighting with it.
  5. Saturday nite at the end of the day on a tip that the walleye bite gets good soon on the river, I took two fat 20 inch walleye on three drifts around sunset bottom bouncing worm harness in 20 fow. Wind was perfect for the drift. Thanks to the person who put the picnic table near the flooded boat ramp.
  6. The thermocline is a good place to start if you aren't marking fish or once you first get out there. But if you are marking fish then you would adjust and fish the marks instead of water temp.
  7. They boarded us last 4 of July week in Oak Orchard, they were professional and didn't even have to stop trolling.
  8. 300yds of backing is a lot... if you're deadset on having that much backing you couldn't go with more than 200ft of copper on that reel. downsizing to 200yds of 30lb braid would prolly let you fit a 250 copper, but a 300 copper should really go on an 800 tekota
  9. Keuka all day !! Make sure ya jig also. Way more fun Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  10. Thank you! This will be our first Salmon trip. I have a fish hawk on the boat and a Lowrance HDS unit. I read where everyone targets a certain water temp and thermocline. Do you not mark this fish on the graph and then target that depth?
  11. I am heading to the St Lawrence River near Millens bay August 3rd - 10th. Looking for best spots and techniques for Walleyes and Small mouth. Thank you in advance.

  13. Lake Ontario- The 16th edition of the Sodus Pro-Am was last weekend, and although Sunday was a challenge with Lake Ontario waves…the fishing was fantastic. Teams that fished close to Sodus were catching kings with spoons and meat-rigs. The water temps on the surface were running 72 degrees with 45 to 50 degrees down 40 to 60 feet. The Am team winner, “Roll With It” caught one king off 300 feet of copper. It was quite an ordeal as the fish took out 872 feet of line. That kind of reeling is for the young anglers. 14. 2 - Big Jon "Sportsman" Electric Downriggers. 2 - Swivel bases ( not pictured) 2 - 10 lb. Weights. 2 - Weight holders. 2 - Roemer Releases These work very well. Everything you need to get started. As you can see in the pictures, there is a small crack where the handles connect to the spool(a new spool is $26.99 on fishusa, but the ones on these work good) . One rigger is missing a manual handle( a new handle is $13.99 on fishusa) and the red rod holder cap (2 new caps on fishusa are $9.99). I could replace parts, but don't want to do it if no one wants these. Looking to get $600. I'd prefer not to ship, but would on your dime. Not sure what it would cost. I'm located about 25 minutes north of Youngstown, Ohio but will be in the Wilson,NY area on labor day weekend. Sent from my SM-G930P using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  21. End of August I’d vote pine grove. Depends on where the fish are. If they’re still out reasonably deep, mexico is where to go. As stated above, pine grove at 9pm recovering your boat will take a while and likely will be a line of guys recovering. Good luck
