Snatching/Snagging means taking fish that have not taken or attempted to take bait or artificial lure into their mouth, by impaling the fish with one or more hooks or similar devices, whether or not baited, into any part of their body. Snatching is indicated by repeated or exaggerated jerking motions of the fishing rod. Snagging, lifting, and single hook snagging are types of snagging. To help do our environmental duty and keep our precious tributaries clean of illegal activity, we ask all LOU members to report any environmental violation witnessed. No problem Bob - I am still working on the calendar but everything is going well thus far. New Events are added to the calendar the same way you would post a topic except at the bottom of the topic area will be an option to set a date... this will automatically add it the calendar if you fill out this information. I will post an "official" launch letter once I finish everything and we test it out a bit.

Hey Bob - Good idea. Infact it looks like we have several instances were dates would be helpful to list and organize. Creating a sticky thread wouldn't be a problem at all and I was also tossing around the idea of an LOU Calendar feature were members could post any dates of importance just the same way the post new threads. Would anyone have an interest in seeing something like this or do you like the simple idea of a sticky thread better? The main advantage of a calendar would be the ability to see all the dates visually and members can add and delete new caledar events at their liking instead of having to append to a thread. Just a thought and I will be interested to hear what the members think. Cheers, Chad

Just curious what else LOU members do with their free time besides fish and work? I know we got a lot hunters on here. as well. What else do you do for fun the cold months here? Casino? Bowling? Day dream about the Spring and new boating setups? Ect....

Ray - You may have been lucky enough to catch me updating the site at the same time you were trying to submit the PM. Hey LOU Members, Well after 6.5 hours of working on this thing, I'm ready to introduce the new "Buddy List" feature as requested by our members. The idea originated with the intent of being able to provide members an easy way to setup fishing trips with each other and thus combat the growing costs of going fishing these days. The buddy list feature is easy to use. Simply click the "buddy" button on any member to add them to your list. Once they are added to your buddy list, you can view all your buddies via your public profile and in your private message inbox. Because personal information such as time/dates, location, phone numbers, ect. might be exchanged to setup these group fishing events, I needed to set up the buddy list to handle personal information with extra care and thus the justification to use our encrypted private messaging system to set up the actual fishing trip details. The intent of the buddy list is to make contacting specific individuals easy and customizable for you. If you view your Private Messages you will notice your buddy list is conveniently located at the bottom of your messages. From here you can quickly and easily contact any of your friends without the hassle of having to try and search for one of their previous posts or digging through our member list that now consists of over 1600 people. To remove a buddy from your list, simply click the (X) button next to their name. I hope you find this feature useful. Kind regards,

Guys - I'll be happy to look into this for you. Give me a bit of time and I will let you know what I come up with. I just have to be careful about how this is handled if you we talking about exchanging personal information. We might have to use the private messaging system built in and maybe combine that with a "buddy list" for easy access to memebers you are friends with. Something like that.... In the mean time, enjoy a couple new features I added... 1.) "Link to Us" - Top right of the site 2.) Quick Reply in the Private Message area. This one was a long time coming and I had several requests for it as members always complained that they couldn't remember what the other person wrote after hitting the reply button. 3.) A cool LOU Logo for the text area background (bottom right - just hit reply to see). 4.) LOU Game Room for Pro Members 5.) Snow flakes on the site for the holiday season. The snow storm at LOU stops the day after Christmas for those wondering. Enjoy

Here is the DEC report without the PDF hassle... =================================== LOCAL SPORTSMEN ASSIST DEC WITH EMERGENCY SALMON EGG COLLECTION EFFORT FOR LAKE ONTARIO SPORTFISHING For Release: Immediate Contact: Megan Gollwitzer Thursday, November 21, 2007 (716) 851-7201 Thanks to the assistance of local anglers and fishing groups, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is pleased to report that nearly 792,000 Chinook Salmon eggs have been collected from Eighteen Mile Creek in Niagara County. Egg collection was initiated as an emergency effort to help achieve New York’s salmon stocking goals for Lake Ontario. Located in Altmar, Oswego County, DEC’s Salmon River Fish Hatchery normally collects around 3.5 million Chinook Salmon (also known as King Salmon) eggs from the Salmon River. The eggs are collected in the fall, and are hatched and reared to fingerling size at the hatchery. In spring, the fingerlings are transported from the hatchery and released into Lake Ontario’s tributaries, including Eighteen Mile Creek. This stocking program is an essential component of the Lake Ontario Chinook Salmon sport fishery opportunities, drawing many thousands of anglers annually to Lake Ontario and its tributaries. Surveys indicate that Lake Ontario’s sportfishing industry generates over 50 million dollars to New York State’s economy annually. This year, extremely low water levels in the Salmon River during the spawning season resulted in significantly reduced numbers of salmon moving up the river to spawn. Consequently, there were less spawning salmon from which to collect eggs, making it impossible for the Salmon River Hatchery to meet its standard egg collection goals. By late October, less than one million eggs were able to be collected. In an urgent effort to supplement the low number of eggs collected, DEC Fisheries staff initiated egg collections from other Chinook Salmon spawning areas in addition to Salmon River, including sections of Eighteen Mile Creek. Teaming up with local anglers and sportsmen fishing groups, a week-long cooperative egg collection effort successfully yielded a total of 792,000 additional Chinook Salmon eggs to add to those initially collected from the Salmon River. As a result of this effort, the Salmon River Hatchery’s total Chinook Salmon egg count is now 1.9 million. Participants cooperating in the egg collection effort included Region 9 DEC Fisheries Staff and Environmental Conservation Officers, Niagara County Fish Advisory Board members, the Niagara River Anglers Association, the Lake Ontario Trout and Salmon Association, the Town of Newfane, and countless local anglers who graciously gave up their catches to assist. Some assistance from anglers and staff was also provided in DEC’s Region 8 along Oak Orchard Creek.
