    Casting: (1) Rod (2) Lure (3) Reel I think rod ranks highest for me personally as without the correct rod action, my lures alone won't be enough to trigger strikes in most cases; without the right rod power you don't have the backbone to throw bigger baits and without the right length you don't have ability to convert figure-8's (which for many represent 50% or more of their chances). The right rod solves all those problems. Trolling: (1) Lure (2) Reel (3) Rod Lures are the obvious choice here I think. I picked reel next as I need to know exactly how far out I am, have a good drag and be able to have some cranking power so I don't exhaust myself clearing weeds from cranks baits being trolled at 4+ mph every half hour.

    Want to post a question to my muskie buddies here on LOU that I was thinking about the other night. Question: If you had to rank the importance of ROD, REEL, LURE, in which order would you rank them from MOST important to LEAST important? I'm going to divide this into two categories as well: CASTING & TROLLING So for CASTING, what is the most important (Rod, Reel or Lures?) to least important? And for TROLLING, what is the most important (Rod, Reel or Lures?) to least important? I'll post my own opinion on Friday, but wanted to give you guys a chance to respond first. I'm interested to hear how different LOU members rank these.

    I know the obvious answer for me would be a jerkbait…. and you would be right just cause I enjoy throwing those the most. BUT… if my life depended on it, I would probably go with a tube or shallow lip joint crank as it is probably the most versatile for being able to target different areas of the water column. Plus the crank would give me a trolling and casting option.

    Had a great time yesterday at the show with family yesterday - drive home was ok for us, left a little before storm hit. My two daughters made out like bandits getting all sorts of kids stuff including free rods and reels just for showing up! I picked up a couple new show specials there to try this coming year (Koyte Ugly flashers, NK Spoons, etc.). It was great getting to see and talk with everyone. Looking forward to Spring now already!

    As the 2018 Fishing & Hunting seasons winds down to a close, I thought I would write a little year end review and thank you note to the LOU membership for making 2018 a record breaking year for us. The overall traffic to LOU surged a whopping 35.47% over last year - incredible! Typically we see 5-10% growth but this year was different. I have my own theories why (gets especially interesting around 7:40 minute marker; apparently fisherman/hunters don't like having their GPS coordinates recorded... who would have thought ) but first and foremost, I owe a big thank you to the LOU membership, moderators and captains/pro members that help keep this site going. I see LOU more as a family then a forum and that has always been the goal since day one. Now with over 20,000+ members, it's not to say we don't have our family fights here and there but that is to be expected. At the end of the year you can look around and see most on LOU are fighting for the same cause and foster a family-friendly atmosphere. As we head into 2019, we recently released an updated version of the LOU App for both iPhone and Android. Many of you have updated to the latest version already.
