  1. Due to the great response to the lure giveaway, we decided to give away 5 lures to 3 winners instead of having just one 10 lure winner.

    Congratulations to our winners:

    ReelDiel: 5 NK Lures

    SilverSpoon: 5 NK Lures

    InTheBox: 5 NK Lures

Thank you again for all that entered. We really appreciate your support and dedication to the site. Good luck to those fishing the LOC this coming week!

    Kind regards,

  2. Glad you figured it out Bob. For future reference here is the code you can copy to paste into your website. Its really easy to do and I wish everyone that had a website and visits LOU would put a "Proud Member" badge on their site. I also included code that you can use to post in your signatures on our forum and other forums as well.

Maybe I need to offer some type of incentive to get others to post this on their site... how about I give away 10 FREE Northern King (NK) Lures to one lucky winner. All you have to do to qualify is put the LOU badge on your website and then send me an email or private message so I can enter your name. I will draw the winner this Saturday.

For everyone else that doesn't have a website to participate, I apologize. You can still enter by putting the banner in your signature on a forum other than LOU. Here is a coupon for the LOU store that expires May 7th as another incentive.

Offer: $5 Off $20+ Coupon for LOU Store

    Coupon Code: GASHESHEIGHT

    Expires: May 07, 2007

Simply copy this code and paste it into the HTML on your site. It's that easy. Please send me a PM if you are having trouble and I will gladly help you out.

  3. Hey fellas,

I think to give everyone the best chance to participate in the chat sessions, we should consider scheduling one chat session on a weekday and one a weekend. Many users of this board work late nights during the week so by holding both sessions during the weekdays we kill their chances. We get a lot of visitors to the site Sunday (especially Sunday night).

My proposal would be for 8:00pm on both Thursday and Sunday night. This would give the maximum chance for everyone to participate in at least one of the sessions. Thursday nights on the board are also a popular board time. More so than Fridays for the obvious reasons I'm guessing.

Thursday night (8:00pm EST) sets up the weekend well.

Sunday night (8:00pm EST) concludes the weekend well.

    Any thoughts?

  4. Hey guys,

Here is charts that might better help us decide on a day and time. The charts show the number of visits per day and per hour (EST time). This data was compiled over a course of about 3 months time.

    LOU.jpg

The chart acts like an un-official poll of all users. By simply visiting the site you have in a sense casted a vote. I am all for setting a "standard weekly meeting time". Let me know what you guys think.

I'd like to get some more feedback before making any sort of decision.

    Kind regards 8)

  5. Hi everyone!

I just wanted to keep the board up-to-date with the current site. At this point in time, pretty much all bugs have been worked out and the site is running fast and smooth. Some things you may have noticed include:

1.) Long URL links are automatically shortened

2.) Horizontal scroll bars now appear at the bottom of the forum for posts extending off the right side

3.) Classified section broken up into Buy & Sell subsections

4.) Mozilla browser download button added (cause Firefox is faster and more secure than Internet Exploder)

5.) Addition of the customized LOU Map for local area bays & inlets.

Phewww! Ok, so with that said I wanted to introduce the next "BIG PROJECT" for LOU. This came as a request via a couple LOU members. The argument is that sometimes "posts" are written that are very long and infact shouldn't even be considered posts but rather articles. We have an AMAZING group of some of the most respected fisherman on the lake here on this board. The problem is that sometimes posts/articles are written that should not carry a time-stamp. They are extremely valuable pieces of information (often lengthy) that are lost amongst the flurry of topics posted every day on LOU.

The proposal is something we call "LOU Articles". This would be a collection of the most valuable fishing tutorials, secrets, and general fishing information written by fisherman, for fisherman. These articles would be broken down into categories such as "Trolling, Salmon Fishing, Brown Trout Fishing, ect." easily accessible to all anytime. Articles often extend a couple pages in length and would not make sense to post as a "forum message".

Eventually, given some time I think we could build the most comprehensive collection of fishing articles relevant to Lake Ontario ever assembled. Anyone who is a registered member on this message board is eligible to write for "LOU Articles". Once an article is written, people will be given the opportunity to comment on the article as a way of adding additional information to it.

To build such a library takes a lot of time, coding and money and thus I appreciate your patience while we investigate the idea further.

... and that is the current State of the LOU :)

  6. Hey MuskyBob!

Hahah - actually, I am going to a wild guess and say that you are probably running Firefox browser? Correct? If so then simply scroll down to the bottom of the post and you will notice a scroll bar that will give you the option to scroll over to the right. If you are running Internet Explorer then the link will have wrapped across three lines of text. I am going to fix the link to make it shorter anyways, but this is just for your reference in the future.

Also, I have got the GPS location for the tournament. Thanks for your help everyone!

Here is a sneak peak at LOU Maps (including the LOU All tournament location). I apologize for the lack of ports at the moment. We are in the process of gathering all that information. Consider it a work in progress still. Enjoy :)

  7. Hello again everyone,

Excited for the '07 fishing season yet? I started getting excited after the Rochester Sportsman show every year. Anyways, I wanted to give you an update on what I have been working on for LOU. This new section will require plenty of member feedback and that is the purpose of this post.

Here is the idea: LOU Maps! Recently, Google made available the API for "Google Maps" allowing us to interface with the application. This means we can use it to create our own CUSTOM maps. What I am putting together now is a map of Lake Ontario that will show all the MAJOR ports/harbors/bays from around the Big-O.

What I need from you is a list of any port you would like to see on the LOU Map (Canada and US). Canadian especially would be very helpful. I am not looking for specific marinas, just the major harbor/bay/inlet itself that you think would be of interest. This will serve as a great educational resource for anyone wanting to know more about Lake Ontario as well as a functional resource for those already familiar.

If you want to take it a step further than you can visit the website below and get the exact Lat/Lng coordinates (significant to 14 digits in some cases) of the port/harbor referenced. You will have to zoom in a bit on the left there.

    www.TrackUsDown.com/map.htm for GLatLng information

    Example of what to post:

    Body of Water: Oswego Harbor

    Latitude: 43.463136527413724

    Longitude: -76.51290893554688

Eventually I would also like to create a map of the Finger Lakes and simlar ports as well, but first things first...

  8. As requested by some of our members, I created a button on the bottom of the left column for quick access to the LOU Log Sheet.

On a side note, we also fixed the issue some people were having about text getting cut off on the right side when someone would post a longggg hyperlink in their message.

    Cheers 8)

  9. Spent a lot of time out on the water last year and picked up some really good practices. One of the things I was most impressed with was the Fishing Log that Rebel Charters kept. We are talking YEARS worth of fishing data from every SINGLE trip. Notebooks full of valuable data. Anyways, Rebel was kind enough to share the log with us and I would like to make that same fishing log available to you. Its a great way to track the years progress as its happening.

  10. Good evening fellow anglers,

Recently, I have received several emails/PMs about LOU users wanting a store or to buy some merchandise and thus was born the LOU store. So far we have had a great response to the store and we continue to add products as they become available to us. Today we added "Plus Size" women’s wear. Hopefully the plus size men’s wear will be soon to follow. Here is a $5 dollar off coupon valid on purchases over $35 dollars: SRV149

Now while we love the response we have got thus far with respect to the LOU store, the bottom line is that it doesn't necessarily help you catch more fish (except for the hat, which is PACKED FULL of good luck fishing magic). And again the emails came in requesting a "fishing" store that sold more than just LOU merchandise. This was tough and I thought about it for a long time and have decided that we will not have a fishing store on LOU for a couple reasons. This would require SSL certificates, inventory management, shipping personal and a whole bunch of other stuff that I don't need to explain required to run a store. I also didn't want to take away (distract) from the community with something that was overly complex like this.

Instead what I looked into was the one place where I (and many of you) buy all your fishing stuff. It is infact the cheapest place you can buy fishing stuff anywhere on the web (with the exception of our Classifieds forum that recently has seen a set of 4 downriggers be given away for FREE!). Care to take a guess? EBAY of course! I had a chance to talk with some people over at Ebay about an API they wrote that would allow us to target very specific EBAY searches (i.e., "salmon fishing", "trolling rods", etc.). Using this API, we could then host live fishing related EBAY auctions directly from LOU website.

This benefits the LOU community in that they are always going be kept up-to-date with the latest fishing merchandise at the cheapest prices. It also doesn't distract from the rest of the site, as we will only be showing one product at a time. It benefits the site owners because they won't have to deal with the inventory, shipping and all that other hassle associated with trying to run a secure online store. Ebay is a trusted source that many of you already have accounts with. LOU Auctions just makes it easier for you to find the fishing items of interest.

The fishing items on the LOU Action block update themselves and change as you navigate the pages. The latest prices and a brief description along with a thumbnail image are displayed. Simply click on the item to view the real Ebay auction directly. What you can be assured of is that it is going to be hard to EVER beat the prices you see on LOU Auctions/Ebay. I can promise you that.

    Happy bidding 8)

  11. You want to share your photos with the community but are not sure how. No problem. This step by step tutorial will walk you through exactly how to post your own pictures on Lake Ontario United.

There are TWO ways to post pictures on LOU.

The First Way (and the easiest way)

Simply click on the "Start New Topic, Reply to this topic or Use Full Editor (quick reply)" option to bring up the full post editor. After that, click on the ATTACHMENTS option below the post body and upload your images.

    The Second Way

Setting up PhotoBucket Account. We need to make our images available on the Internet. Having them on your personal computer is not good enough so what we are going to do is setup an account with PhotoBucket that will host our images ONLINE for us!

1.) Visit PhotoBucket.com and register for an account or sign in if you already have one.

2.) Under where it says "Chose an Image" you will see a "Browse" button. Click on the "Browse" button and select the picture on your computer that you would like to upload.

3.) Once the image from your computer has been selected, click "Open".

4.) Then simply press the "UPLOAD" button.

5.) Your image will upload to the website and you will receive a confirmation message saying "Your Images have Uploaded!"

Simple right? Ok, so now we have taken the images from your computer and put them on our Photobucket account. Now we want to share this image with members of the LOU community.

1.) Log into your photobucket account if you are not already.

2.) Scroll down to the bottom and you will see all the images you have uploaded. Click on the "IMG Code" text. This will AUTOMATICALLY copy the image code for you.

3.) Paste the image code into your message on the LOU Forum.

The code that you paste into your message will look similar to this (but longer):

    [IMG] http://i167.photobucket.com/pike.jpg [/IMG]
That's it! Nothing to it and its very convenient and beneficial to both parties. Plus, you can use your photobucket account to post images on virtually any other message board out there.

I hope this little tutorial helps and please private message me with any questions you might have.

    Kind regards,

  12. Sorry guys - I thought you wanted the code to put it on your own websites. If so, then use the code above. If you want to put it in your profile signature, then use this code:

  13. There are many reasons why we fish, but the one that sits at the top of list for me is because of my father. This is a very old picture of my sister, brother and myself. The man in the shaded background is "Pa".

I wanted to share this tribute to all fishing fathers out there.

Warning: You many need a tissue after watching.

This video in a sense represents some of the reasons why LOU was born - more of a family friendly atmosphere. To make sure that memories like this keep happening for future generations to come.

So if you haven't already, take the pledge and be sure to put that "Proud Member of LOU" badge on your site and display it proudly!
