  1. Once the thermocline sets up, My 3 rod "search mode" still includes the old school rubber squid. Low rigger with Evil Eye high speed dodger / squid with a fixed cheater above, ( spoon or Apex ) wire diver with flasher / fly high rigger with spoon or Apex and a fixed cheater above. This gets 5 different baits in the strike zone using 3 rods. Once the fish tell me what they want - or don't want, I change up the offerings. Just my $.02
  2. Just sent JAYRFRED a PM..... he posted first....

  4. After reading SoSarrie's post, I also ordered from Outdoor pro shop. Great customer service.... I got a call from them a few hours after placing an internet order, informing me that they were out of stock on one lure color, asked if i would like to pick another color or short ship the order... also promised to e-mail me when the color I wanted was back in stock... shipped the order that day... no sales tax and free shipping for orders over $50. They have more colors and sizes of Apex lures than I have seen anywhere.. Jim
  5. I sort of stumbled upon this website and thought I would share.... http://w3.lre.usace.army.mil/hh/GreatLakesWaterLevels/GLWL-CurrentMonth-Feet.pdf

  8. I use the Cabela's 7/16 snaps rated at 35lbs, combined with the #10 Spro power swivel, also at 35lbs...... great combo for spring, then change out to the 9/16 snaps later in the year for the 'riggers
  9. Line Guy, The proposed marina entrance is just North of the ramps.
  10. As of Friday morning, ramp is open with one dock in. A few hundred yards of open water to the South, and a clear channel out to the lake.
  11. If you can get the measurements from the old gears, (outside diameter, hole size, and number of teeth), you could look online at the big industrial places like MSC, or Mc-Master Carr for a replacement gear. If the worn ones are blown away, get your dimensions from the good rigger.
  12. No letter here, but I did take a look at the launch area at Rochester Harbor today. The marina basin project is underway full tilt, but a section of road is open to the boat launch area. I was suprised to see how low the water is.... even the small boats like mine will run out of dock before the boat is off the trailer. Most of the shoreline ice is gone, and after next weeks projected warm forecast, we should be good to go in the Rochester basin area. Just my $.02
  13. I also tie on 1/4 inch tubing.... works great.

    Anchor Roller

I installed a pedistal type bow light to get above the bow mount trolling motor...
  15. If I could do it all over again, I would find a good gps/ff combo unit, and buy 2 of them, running one full screen ff, and the other full screen gps. Would only have to learn one software menu, and if one crapped out, I could go duel screen on the other while the bad one was out for repair.
  16. Howard's Fabric and Foam, East ridge Road near Hudson.
  17. Welcome to the site, Keep asking questions... there are a lot of skilled fishermen here who will gladly help a new guy get set up and on a few fish.

  19. Jeff, Good point on the zoom range... I forgot to mention that I have my marker zoom range set to read a 60ft. section of water, and key in on the thermocline area. For example, fishing in 200fow, 52 degrees 80 down, will zoom to 50 to 110 range on one side of the split screen, with full depth on the other side.
  20. Jeff, I've run the 620 for 4 seasons now and don't have the issues you describe. Here's a few things you can check: Pressing the gain knob, gives 3 choices, fishing, cruising, and off. The auto gain must be "off" for any of your manual changes to take effect. You can offset the gain for each frequency. I boost the gain on the 50 kz low frequency side, almost to the point of having a cluttered screen, and keep the high frequency side at "0". Check the interference settings. Turn it off and see if you have any electrical interference on the screen... use the minimum supression needed to keep the screen clean. Same thing with low level noise and weak echo settings.... turn off as much of the auto filtering crap as you can to get a true picture...... dump the fish ID icon setting too. Remember, you are looking at a 3D world on a 2D screen.... what you see on the screen depends on how a fish swims through the cone angle. Very seldom do I see that perfect "arch" of a fish ... more often it's a blob, line, or streak on the screen. Check out this link for more help. http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/196651-i-need-help-operating-my-furuno-fcv-620-using-sonar-general.html
  21. I have at least a dozen of the old Jollies, and still use them. You can find small sheets of neoprene on the web for cheap and cut out new replacement pads yourself. I did cut off the big loop at the end and twisted the wire around a big coast lock snap to keep them on the planer board line... the original design would sometimes open up with a good hit, and drop the release in the lake.
  22. The spoons pictured above are indeed Illuminators, I ran then for a while back in the late 80's...... As I recall, they never put a fish in the boat. They were not speed tolerant at all, and made of plastic, you can't tune them by bending. I do think they would be a good choice for walleye at slower speeds.
