    Posting a few items for a fishin' buddy...

    1 Daiwa Black Widow rod, 8' 6" medium action

    2 Shimano Triton rods, 8' heavy action

    4 Daiwa Great Lakes System Eliminator rods, 8' 6" medium action

    1 Tidewater 30L Reel spooled with new Trilene Big Game, 30lb. test line

    2 Downrigger weights, 10lb. round with fins.

    Rods and reels are $15 each

    Keep an eye on wind direction early in the week. A light West / North West wind can push some of the warm water from Russell Station and to some extent, the warmer water blowing out of the Greece ponds to the East and trap it along the Charlotte beach area between the West pier and Russell. A bit of sun on that shallow sandy bottom will bring the temp. up a bit. We've had some very good early season mornings along the beach in 5-15 ft. depths. Look for a color line, or water with a bit of "green" color.

    Lots of guys anchor up in the warm water discharge from Russell Station and cast small spoons and minnow baits. Chartruse Rebel fast tracks and fire tiger Storm thunder sticks in small sizes were good last year early.

    I'll be running my rig in the driveway by noon today and should be running out of Rochester by next Friday...weather permitting... looking forward to you post next Wednesday...GOOD LUCK !! 8)8)

    Occidental settlement allocated

    Altmar, N.Y. - Nearly $11 million in projects designed to improve fishing access, enhance fish populations, conduct research and promote angler outreach will be funded through a multi-million dollar settlement with Occidental Chemical Corp.

    DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis announced the projects - more than 40 in all - at four separate press conferences Jan. 24-25.

    The money is part of a $12 million settlement reached in 2006 with Occidental Chemical Corp. for a natural resources damages lawsuit.

    Selling 4 used Angler's Pal rod holders with 6 mounting plates. These are the big ones, 10" long stainless steel tubes x 1 5/8" dia. Base plates are aluminum with stainless steel inserts.

    A friend of mine e-mailed some neat pictures he took this past weekend and I thought I would share them with the LOU board members. The pictures were taken by Tom Flaherty, avid fisherman, hunter, nature photographer, and owner of Flaherty Game Calls.

    This past Sunday morning, Tom snuck out on the Irondequoit Bay outlet pier in his white cammo hoping to get a few pics of a flock of birds called Old Squaw, AKA "long tails". They are a diver duck and most people believe eat only muscles and clams. They like most animals are opportunist and will indulge in anything that comes their way. Tom got some great shots of them pounding the snot out of the Goby population!

    I don't know much about these little guys, but if they're willing to dive on the Gobies, I hope they hang around a while...

    Tom is a third generation game call craftsman, beautiful hand made calls using many exotic hardwoods.... If you hunt you check out his home page

    Duragrid flooring for boats

    The same types of mats are used in machine shops.... they cushion the floor but still get slippery. How about a piece of marine carpet cut to fit, bound around the edges and snapped to the floor in multiple spots?? Remove it to wash it on the driveway or leave it out for "non fishing" occasions..

    One of the biggest problems started a few years back when China went into major strip mining of coke, a coal like product used to smelt ores into steel and other types of metals. They flooded the world market with so much cheap coke, that many coke mines around the world couldn't compete and closed down. China then stopped the exports and put their own steel smelting plants into overdrive.

    As a result the cost of coke is super high ( if you can buy it at all ) which slows Western steel production and drives up prices.... but don't worry, China has plenty of cheap $hit metals to sell us.......

    I build injection molds for a living and material costs change daily. If you think lead is bad, try pricing a few thousand pounds of high quality 420 or 440 stainless steel...... :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock:

    You might want to explain about "the power of the internet" to your taxidermist. Poor customer service and bad news travels fast these days..... If he doesn't make good by you, let the board members here know who he is.

    I had a little "issue" with a marine dealership last spring and let them know I would share their poor customer service policies with thousands of boat owners on line........ things changed in a hurry.. :shock:

    Been on 5 RCCL cruises to the Caribbean and loved them all !! Going again in 2009. I can't help with fishing info but if you have time on Grand Caman you MUST take a boat to Stingray City.

    Swimming around in 4 ft. of water with a couple dozen wild southern stingrays is something you will never forget... You should be able to book a charter on the web....or book a trip from the RCCL shore excursion section of their website.
