  1. Pretty quiet out there.... :?

Been out a few times but haven't reported `cause my trips were pretty much lack-luster. Been fishing out of Long Point since late April and haven't had any great numbers to get everyone excited about.

Fishing up there has been like it was most of the winter on the south end. Few fish early in the upper water column and then it shuts off. I will say that I haven't tried along the shore line in the shallows (5' to 20'). If you wanted to stay longer than 10AM and catch fish, then 80' to 110' down was the place to be.

Surface fish up there yielded a few nice browns, short salmon (16" to 18 1/2" range) and no rainbows. Lakers that were caught deep were of good quality....mostly in the 25" to 30"+ range. There were no great concentrations of any fish were I've been fishing. Just had to put in the time and go looking for them. Pulled the boards off the boat and if the surface turns on then I'll use out riggers. The browns that I am catching don't seem to be boat or ball shy at all.

Will try again this weekend. Hope to hear from some of you guys. I know you are fishing. No secrets need to be given up. Especially ones that will win the Cayuga LOU-All ;) . Just like to hear what everyone is up to. Strength in numbers so they say......that includes LOU members & guests.

Hope that any of you guys in this weekends tournament have a good time and place in the winners circle. Best of luck to all.............and you too Strike 3, you have a new auto-pilot to pay for :)

  2. Sorry for the late post. Fished Cayuga Saturday and went to the gun show in Syracuse today `cause of the lake conditions on Cayuga (then got hug up on a plumbing project tonight).

South end is full of debris from the inlet to the Yacht club. It's spread out pretty much across the lake. Until we get some steady winds from one direction the crap will just hang there. Also the lake level is up, not quite flood stage but close. Saturday the mud was well out past the dropoff and thick. We run our stuff through it but never had a hook-up. Several releases ended up being sticks :x .

We moved up the lake past Crowbar and set back up and trolled up to the park and around in circles a bit. Ended the day with 4 short salmon, 1 laker (& lost 1), a nice brown @ 25" and 2 eels (now headless). The brown was down pretty deep, 200' out with wire and slider diver. Lakers were caught at 90' & 110'. Salmon on top.

  3. Got a mystery guest on board tomorrow and I know I'm not going to be the only boat that will be in the water.

Will I have any help from some of you guys in tenderizing his  gonads?

We'll be launching from Treman on Cayuga's south end. Hope to see some of you out there.

Li'L Buddy will be on 68....ask for `frisco

  4. have a chance to buy one of these new in box anyone use or have exper.with this unit ...

I have the King AP2000 since 1991. It is on it's second boat now. Bought a new boat Jan 2002 and took it off my old boat. Sent it back to the repair center to have it checked out and "tuned up" before reinstalling it in my new boat.

As far as I know the company that made them is out of business. A repair center in Florida still repairs the King line. Even though the unit has been good to me I really don't think I would buy one today (unless it's close to free). I would talk to some of the guys that have different units and stay with newer technology.

Ray, if you want to talk about the King in little more depth then PM me a phone number and we'll kick it around on the phone.

  5. STRIKE 3,

Actually, When the Ms' was informed that "I" was invited she said "ain't no way' you go, I go..." so, she has the last say in this house. It was all stingers fault, next time he has to include the bride, what can I say?

    CHAOS

......not sure if that comment was for the perch dinner or the invite to go fishing Sat. :?

I can understand her pulling rank if it was for the dinner but fishin' with the guys? Just tell her that I took the port-a-potti out of the boat and replaced it with a propane cylinder for the heater. :) ,....... she'll understand.

  6. If Stinger is fishing on Sunday....Strike 3 may want to go if there is room.Mike,I've already got a permission slip from Cyn..................Zeke(Strike 3)

:(;( ...sorry Z, fishing tomorrow (Sat) not Sunday. Already have a couple guys promissed but final commitment won't be `till tonight. If you are interested on tomorrows trip call me tonight about 7'ish. If they don't call me by then, then your in.

PS:...I'm also good for some $$ for the trophy

  7. Rod.....even thou `stix & I have similiar boats we do have different kicker setups. His advise is well worth heeding but remember there will be trade offs no matter how you mount, steer and throttle.

I did install the "Troll-Master" electronic throttle and am vary pleased with it's performance. Can really fine tune rpms and I think it is actually better than cable linkage. Unfortunately, you still may have a little trial & error to get your boat setup the way you you'll like it.

  8. I don't fish Cayuga often, but if I recall correctly.. Long Point is about 20 miles up on the east side..right? I'll probably launch at Taughaunock (sp) and troll over and up, grabbing the prize winner on the way! By the way.. does the winner's mug come filled with anything? Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris) "Sculpin"

Chris, that's a pretty long boat ride.

If you trailer up to Deans cove on the west side you'll be just a little north of Long Point across the lake. Deans Cove has good access. Something to consider.

  9. Ya know Ray, we all can feel your pain. To much tackle you say? That's a phrase that doesn't exist on this Board so cheer up and blow those Dick's bucks.

in my courtesy inspection;;all accessory hot leads from the battery need to be fused within 10" from the battery to help prevent a fire if a wire wears through before the fuses at the dashboard makes sence, another 40 dollar bill to make a fuse buss near the battery yea..

I sloved the problem of proper fusing by adding one of these babies to each side of the boat back in the aft. Makes life easy anytime you add new equipment (and you will be adding new stuff that hasen't even been developed yet).

    2vttx7o.jpg

Got them from Cabela's. Once you hook up the main power feed everything else just plugs in.

  10. His recent expenditures on new rods and reels for something called dipsey’s has me riled…

..........I'd be riled too if I had a husband spending money on those slender bodied, bikini clad dipsey's in that video  :x

  11. I checked that video out shortly after you posted it last week J.D. Thought it was great. The music really really pumped me up.....the images added to the pump also  ..........

Since then while at home I've found myself coming back a couple times and firing up the video just to blast the music while puttsing around the house. Great post and good timing, the count down is getting close to single didgets ;) .

  12. Looks like things just got ramped-up a notch  .

.. ......does anyone remember `stix saying recently that his computer crashed and couldn't post pictures or use his Photo Shop? Also in the same breath he said he wasn't in any hurry to fix it. ..........Well just remember this when he starts telling us what the hot combo is during the fish-off  .

    `stix.......your a classic.........you funny too :)

  13. Chaos before you go much further Ill take you out fishing in my boat and show you what works for me.

Well Vince there is an offer you shouldn't refuse. You've been out on my boat so you know what I have. `stix runs different equipment and is rigged a little different also. Our boat hulls are the same and our business end is idenitical to yours so you really can't ask for anything better than that. I wish I had the opportunity to see a tricked out Arima before I rigged mine. It sure would have saved a lot of hours looking and planning and jerry rigging proto types before drilling.

On a side note..... earlier this week `frisco & I were planning on fishing today if the weather was alright. As the week wore on that plan fell apart. I'd like to think maybe next weekend but after the lake blew out from the run off it will probably take some time before most of the logs, sticks, leafs & twigs not to mention a few barrels, dock parts, plastic bottles and grocery bags,etc....clear the lake ;( .

  14. I know this is a catching site not an eating site, but its winter, and for a while you will be able to get Alaskan troll-caught King Salmon in the grocery storesand fish marts.

This is fresh, not previously frozen, and it is really good stuff.

Here is one of my favorite recipes. This is a stove top recipe.

I tried this receipe out Tuesday night and it now has a permanent place in my cook book. Vary goood and a pleasant change from my other recipes. I didn't have any salmon to try it on but did wip out some nice brown fillets from the freezer.

This recipe should be moved or reposted to the "Recipe" section if it hasn't already. I'm sure others will enjoy it also.

    Thanks Paul

  15. Your right Stinger lets keep this simple. Can I run 5 tipdowns off the boards and two jiging rods? I thank the DEC will be waiting for use at the dock. Are we just fishing fore trout or is it wide open???

....well W4 you should be able to do something close to that. The jigging rods off the boat is no problem. The tip ups can be used if they are not connected to the boat (then they would be considered additional lines). Take eack tipup and tie it to a little kids blowup ring for swimming pools. Then attach the bait and float it  . I think the regulations read something like you must be in close attendance to the tipups.....it's stuff like this that gets me into trouble 8) .......just to be sure read the regs and if you can make it legal then go for it.

We may have to consider a "Most Creative Catch  " catagory. Chaos can work on that.

  16. ......wow... this is supposed to be fun......starting to get confusing :? :? .

Lets get this back into perspective.

This all started by a little chat between fishing buddies about having a fish-off between us. We thought we’d ask a couple other buddies that usually fish around each other most of the season, probably 4 to 5 boats in all. Well.....then someone (guess who) came up with the idea of getting a couple more of our LOU brothers & sisters that fish the area to join us so we could meet in person and the rest of the story is posted here and previous posts.

Regardless of how this whole thing goes down I’m going to be in a fish-off.....no money and no B$ .....just lots of fun. I really don’t want to get bogged down with all the crap like the rest of the tournaments. That’s way we’re doing this to begin with. I think that we should all adhere to the KISS method and leave it at that ;) . Simplest being we pick a day, all go fishing, have some fun and meet mid day for some social time and try to out brag the rest of the group.

.....so anyway to start the ball rolling:

Rule #1 - all NY State fishing and boating laws to be followed (this is for the benefit of the fish police)

Rule #2 - bragging is permitted but some restraint should be shown if a fellow fishermen starts crying ;(

Rule #........any more rule are up to the rest of you

As it stands now I’ll have to leave a dozen or more rods home in order to comply with rule #1. I know Chaos will be glassing my boat to be sure I’m a good boy and behave myself and I wouldn’t be surprised if Strike 3 & `frisco take turns on the glasses also.

  17. geepers Ray.............when I read your subject line I got all beside myself  (what a trick that is). I thought you were leaving LOU `cause you were pi$$ed off at something,...... like `stix not including you in his crew for the Cayuga LOU-All :? (or what ever the name of the tourney is).

After reading it I settled down so I'm OK now in case you were worried. You gots to be careful of post that start like that :$ .

  18. Cayuga L.O.U. All

....now Ray that has a real catchy ring to it. "Cayuga LOU-ALL". It says it all without tying this event to anyone location and keeps the LOU group the common denominator of the participatants.

I hope that it gets some serious thought when it's time for a vote ;) .

PS: Ray, aside from the above, I tink you funny  .

  19. Hey hermit , with all these guys signed up

we can start late and finish early!

How many coolers should I bring?

........how many coolers to bring? Now there is a guy thats thinking ahead.

With this Bar-B-Q thing getting more interest than the fishing I'd say you'll need to bring 3 coolers. Two large and one medium. The two large coolers are for the steaks you and Hermie are bringing  and the medium is to hold the beverage of your choice to consume while you and Hermie are on shore getting the fires going and cooking all those steaks, corn on the cob, salt potatoes, and yes...definitly fried fish. The rest of us will being a desert to share. So I'd say you can start late as you said,.... 11 AM should get things going in plenty of time for a 1 - 2PM eatfest.

Stix don't worry about not haveing enough time to go out on the lake to catch some fish,.....the rest of us will donate a couple fish for you and Hermie to eat. We'll also enter a fish or two for you if we decide that there is going to be a fishing contest. If so then I'm pretty sure that you two guys will win the booby price for smallest fish  .

All those that agree please let `stix & Hermie know by giving them a vote of confidence. Use the PM feature so they'll know that we all love them.

    Have a nice day.......
