  2. Rodney,

Sure I know what it was. But like Rich said if everyone knows it, it wouldn't be a secret. As far as one side getting scent and firing more often, I think it's totally unproven that it's the scent because I have had too many days wher only one rigger or on wire on only one side would produce. It usually is the port side on my boat. Have taken 90% of all the big fish we have caught from the port side whether rigger, wire, spoon , attractor fly or cut bait. Adding the rod to the non-productive side - for me it isn't enough proof it was the scent.

    just my $.02

  3. CBish,

We visited the North Tonawanda store this spring and found most of the stock ion the back room. we were looking for some Pro King spoons. The guy (Mike I believe) said he was sure they had them in the back but wasn't as good as your guy in retrieviing them so we could get what we were after.

The rest of the story from Mike.....

He said they only scheduled one person per shift there (late afternoon/early evening) in that department and if he went to the back to get stock to place onm the shelves, he wouldn't be able to service customers (like us) who had questions and needed assistance OR another staff member to man the bait store/counter. He even told us we could notify corporate, gave us a form and said you can even put my name - Mike - on the form as the one who told us to complain.

Needless to say we were tired from a long day of fishing and needed to get back to 4 mile to rest up for the next days fishing so we left disgruntled.

I also have to say there wasn't many staff in there in other departments too. But I have been witness to that situation in the Cicero store just north of Syracuse. Never seems to be anyone around when you need them. Seems to me it's an upper management problem with the staffing and scheduling of people. I have experienced this on weekends, and weekdays too. Sometimes I run up on my lunch time to the Cicero store during the week and the place is like a ghost town.

  4. Sgrant,

This is inherent to the fishhawk due to the signal being sent by radio frequency from the probe to the xducer. Unlike the Sub-troll where the signal is transmitted up/through the coated cable.

The reason the down speed and temp jumps all over is due to teh currents in the water. If you notice the downrigger cables will sway way behind the boat at times...well the fishhawk probe is there with your rigger ball. The probe is swaying out of the cone sensing area of the xducer.

  5. Rich,

No we were just planning on one this year as it was Rodney's first with the boat he's had just 3 months. Already talking about - 2 next year. Maybe the Niagara or Orleans and the Oswego. The back to backers are tough for time off with the prefishing and all.

  6. :?: :?:

Had my first experience running copper this weekend during the Pro Am. Had good success pre-fishing then had limited success during the tournament.

Here's my question - When reeling in a fish on the copper do you reel down & pump up or does this allow to much slack resulting in a possible lost fish.

Any copper techniques for landing these beasts will be greatly appreciated.

  7. It was great to see and talk with many of our old acquaintences and friends at the Oswego Pro Am this past weekend after being out of the Pro Am for a year. ( Yankee, Big Dave, Reel Jerks, Spoonfed-1, JanZ, and the others). Sorry my brain is still recouperating from the trip.

Also great to put faces to names from this LOU board. Great meeting everyone - Rich D, Nemesis, Billy Bono, Kingfisher06 and many others whose names escape right now (still in a fog from the pre-fish and tourney hours).

Hope to see you in the future.

  8. It was really great to be back in a Pro Am again. What a positive experience our team was this year. Thanks - Fishtails for allowing us (Smitty and I) to be a part of your tournament team.

As this was our first year as a newly formed tournament team we didn't go in with high expectations - just to be competitive and have fun. Yes we had our disagreements at moments (mostly end of the day Sunday when everyone was exhausted from the pre-fish and tourney) but all evaluated andrationalized and ywes we are still a team looking forwaqrd to maybe 2 pro ams next year.

We had some boat problems Saturday and regardless of the fact that we were towed in by the Coast Guard, we made it in the pierheads 20 minutes before Saturday's deadilne and were in line before 3 for the weigh in. Definitely a learning experience that will help us in the future.

See you all on the lake.

  9. nyforests,

We run 4 riggers all the time on our BlueFin 19'. Haven't experinced any crossing. All have 5 or 6 foot solid booms and they are in close proximity to each other. Even when I used 8# torpedo (yellow plastic coated weights) we had no problems in shallow waters or out deep. I thin my beam is just shy of 8'. We don't even keep track of which weight goes on which rigger - just throw one on.

When you say "fish weights" are they the ones that actually have side fins or do they just have a keel on the bottom? Also if they are the torpedo style is the keel bent or straight? The soft lead can get bent on the keel and cause the weight to track in or out.

  10. I think it has to do with each individual weigh station. Some od it ...others don't . I didn't look at the board recently but think I remember the same weigh stations putting rec boat names on the board while others don't.

p.s. maybe I am full of hooey here but I thought that was the pattern at one time. I am sure an e-mail to Dave Chilson woulodl clarify the issue.

  11. Bill,

We have the 12" Forschenr Cimeter model and love it. Guppy picked up the same knife and told me he has no regrets buying it. I don't know if the 2" difference is noticeable but they do make short work of those big kings.
