  1. I should let my brother answer this but he came up with a rubber coated hook from Home Depot used to hang stuff on the wall and attach a 5-6 ft. piece of 1/4" line to it. Hook the fish under the gill plate but not the gill and lower it over the side. Resume trolling. As the fish revives he will swim upright. Give the line a jerk at that point and they'll usually swim away. It's worked for us for the past 2 years. John
  2. Rob, Did you notice that ugly guy in the first 2 pics. I could still smell him at work today..... John
  3. Hans, This was actually the 3rd fishing trip. The first one started at 1pm and ended at 3pm The other one we got beat up a liitle last Saturday am with a sick and complaining neighbor. Didn't like the 4-6 ft. waves we saw. The boat seemed to handle them pretty good though We're hoping to run it up to the Islands next weekend for the week with the family for a little R & R. My first real trip on the boat so we'll see how it all works out. Hope to see you out there this summer. John
  4. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Boatino ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):June 20 /Time on Water:Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: <2 Surface Temp: 64 Location:Rochester LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 10 Total Boated:7 Species Breakdown:Kings, Bows, cohos Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Nice day on the lake this morning with a good crew for Father's Day. Largest king was 18.6 & 17.3, decent coho around 12 and bow about 9 everything else was 5# or less. Most fish were caught between 130-200 fow, 65-110 down. Spin Dr white green dot and pro am fly took the two big guys. Those kings were hot today running both wires out to 500 ft. I took some camera phone pics so they're not that great. Nice talking with you Jammer. Happy Father's Day everyone. Good Fishing! John ====================
  5. Thanks Chris, When they took the picture at 11 am this morning everything east of Sandy was in the 40's and not blacked out. It looks like it updated over Rochester. That's good. Gonna actually try to fish this weekend.... John
  6. Hey I just checked the surface temp map and it looks like 40's from Braddock's to Oswego and 60's West of Point Breeze. Can anyone confirm this. It's not like there has been a lot of cloud cover to affect this... Let me know. Thanks, John
  7. I purchased a pair of 28" Amish Outfitters beefy bags and tested them this weekend. I connected the front line to the spring cleat and the rear line to the rod holder base. Every so often the bag would wander slightly under the boat. Is this ok? or should they always be running off the side of the boat. If so should the rear line be tighter? Please help. Thanks, John PS: pulled a brown on my first cast just past Iron. bay Sat morn.
  8. I just checked the Derby board and it looks like Vince from Thrillseeker also took a 32 lb. King today
  9. How about a description??
  10. Any pics of this spoon?? John
  11. Ok, I've had 2 Tundras. A 2005 Crew Cab 4.6l V-8, great truck, zero problems in 60k miles a little under powered by today's standards, about 15-17 mpg. In 2008 I got the Crewmax with the 5.4 v-8, huge truck inside, small bed, 16-18 mpg, towed a 22 ft. Grady to the islands at 10 mpg. I have the TRD package and wouldn't recommend it because it is definitely bumpier when there isn't a load in the back. I have about 46k miles currently and zero problems (I had the recall done). Made in Texas. PM me if you want any more info but that is about it. Nothing to worry about with the Toyota. John
  12. Might be stupid but do you really need 300 yds. of 50# Power Pro as backing? Can you go with less 500-600 ft. to put more copper line on a reel. Finally breaking down and trying it but I hate the idea of 3.25:1 gear ratio on the Penn 345 GTI. Anyone run the new Diawa Saltist reels for copper. I know they'll only hold 300-350 ft. of 45# copper with 300 yds of backing, but I like the 6.4:1 gear ratio better. Thanks, John
  13. I recently purchased new Big Jon's and there is no plug in the cable like Cannon's. It's only has a direct connect to the battery. Can anyone recommend a in-line plug so I can easily remove the riggers from the boat? It needs to be able to support 28 amps and 10 gage wire. Thanks, John
  14. Anyone know of a Certified Bottom removal & painting company? The boat is a Mcmillan marine and the person needs to be certified. Thanks, John
  15. Raider, Stay on this site for a few years and your gas consumption will be the least of your worries. I think my tackle purchases year in year out out weigh my gas purchases . Damn Dreamweaver and Attomik keep coming up with new Hot colors every year Buy the boat and worry about everything else later. Good Fishing!!!! John
  16. John & Rod, I was checking out the c-map nt+ site last night. Should I be looking at a full Great Lakes Chart, Lake Ontario Only chart, or the individual sectors of Lake Ontario? How much more detail do you get the smaller the region you choose? Thanks, John
  17. Does anyone have any experience with C-Maps for Raymarine Chartplotters. The unit is a 2000 year, model Raychart 620. I was looking into getting a Great Lakes or Lake Ontario chip. Any recommendations?? I've heard people talk about the Navonics Gold chips, I just don't know if they are compatible. The unit came with the Boston Harbor, Cape Cod chip. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, John
  18. 42 here. I remember eating soggy PBJ sandwiches for 13 hours in April to catch 2 browns out of Sodus. Learned a few things since then, especially how to buy fishing gear... John
  19. It's looking like Shumway right now. Surprisingly they're the cheapest on the river. The boat is being stored at Mcmillan on Empire right now. Yeah a pair of 250's on the back. It should be an adventure around the dock. Back in the 80's & 90's we had a 26 ft. Searay Amberjack with twin I/O's and that actually handled pretty good around the dock. I know the outboards are closer together so I don't know if I'll be able to work them against each other to help maneuver. Either way spring can't get here soon enough.... See you on the water. John
  20. Thanks Hans. I did a post on Great Grady but I need to figure out how to post some pics. When I stopped at the marina to take some pictures yesterday, I think I might be over-reacting. Just with the boat being new I really didn't want any unforeseen problems. If that is possible with boats. April can't come soon enough. By the time I closed on the boat it was shipped back here just in time to winterize it for the season I'm sure you'll see me out there off Irondequoit next summer. I hope I can handle the size, it's a big step up for me. John
  21. Does anyone know someone who does boat lettering/signage? Thanks, John
