  1. I was talking with the owner of fish 307 and cannon has been in contact with him running ideas about a new setup. I guess it's only a matter of time and the new unit will be out, due to all the problems they have had.

On a side note is your true depth accurate? I thought i was funny this year how at times our probe would be the only rigger to fire or the only one not to fire and then we were fishing in front of the river this fall and found out that the true depth was off by as much as 12 feet. I like the unit because of the light % because i've noticed at around 7 % greens and blues start out producing glows and white.

  2. thanks all! Hank your right as soon as it gets back from the butcher, i'm bringing the cape to the taxidermist.

chuck - i'm thinking this deer was the six i had hanging around last year...but im not exactly sure. During the summer one of the locals that hunts with us, filmed just about everyday and got many big bucks on film and this one was never seen once so it was a pleasant surprise...

  3. to solve this observer problem i think the tourney should advertise for observers like they did niagra and oswego, either it be in the paper or w/e, im sure if they started early enough they could find a good number of people interested, which would solve the problem of people not being able to find observers. This past year we were able to get an observer for both tournaments because of the two tourneys getting a list.

As for those who talk negative about the tourney but haven't participated in it. I urge you to try atleast one of these tournaments. I think most will come out of it with a whole new outlook, as these tournaments are extremely well run and the group of guys are great for the most part. If observers are a prob, get in the niagra tourney as penny hartman does a good job recruiting observers. I'm not part of the tourney commity just an average angler that found out whats this tourney is all about 3 years ago.

  4. I agree with glen...you can change the am side and try to simplify it to bring in more boats and but you will ruin the image of this tournament, plus you have no guarantee that it will even bring in more people. If it is as bad as rod says you'll lose most of the amateur regulars in which case they will really screw up the am side, because that’s a lot of boats to replace

The rules last year with the no culling was unfortunate but how often do teams really have a chance to cull. Other than the niagara tourney there wasn’t really any other chance to cull unless you were brown fishing in Oswego and Sodus on the first day, but face it if you were lucky enough to limit out then you knew your going be in the top 5 if not higher, other than Niagara. Plus Niagara last year was uncharacteristically good.

As for observers, they are needed as it’s obvious from how rumors of cheating were going on the Friday tourney. Yea it was rumors but I have sources that specifically said a few people got drunk and let it slipped. No need to name names if they need the money that bad let them have it, but it’s just proof that observers are needed. Plus little fact that you guys may not know, I have two buddies that are border patrol agents and they are now getting rid of lie detectors for the interviews because they do not work! That’s the U.S. government saying that lie detectors do not work. So we can’t count on those to be the ultimate decision.

Debatable issues should be the culling and the 6 fish limit, 9 was nice and you can still do it with two member teams, because if your using the observers rods there so be no problem using their fish limit too, after all their extra rods are putting fish in the boat.

It’s too bad that we have to discuss this every year. But really when it comes down to it these two rules are always at the center of the problem and really should be set and say that’s the rules, deal with it until there is a major problem, which I don’t think we had this year or years previously. The biggest hindrance will be gas in my opinion anyways, and will always affect attendance, but we didn’t lose too many teams this year from it.

im sorry that its so long but i had to get this of my chest

  5. This is only 2nd hand info, but a buddy of mine decided to try the sounder and says it's more than worth the money. He said the clarity is unbelievable and it eliminates all the "clutter" you see on the screen, that isn't fish or bait.

On a side note, how do you like your lcx-113 hd? I've always been a raymarine guy but i'm seriously considering the 113 hd, it looks like one serious machine.

  6. thanks moto...i actually just got off the phone with a sportcraft rep he told me that although they've gotten the 27 up past 40, that with 5 guys and all the fishing tackle that it would go 35 at the most, so atleast now i know he wasn't just telling me what i wanted to hear.

  7. lol thats why i left it open hank, i am going down to the miami boat show most likely to check out a bunch of boats and just wondering a what models i should check out...also what do you know about cherokee's a buddy of mine out in mich. found one to check out but i've never heard of them before

penn thanks for the link i'll look into it

  8. i'm looking into a 27 hard top express type boat. need a boat with enough room as we often have 5 guys in the boat during the pro/ams, but still need to be able to run at around 40 to get to the fish. Looked at a sportcraft and baha just wondering other brands you guys recommend.

  10. mostly likely but it all depends on mother nature and the flow of the salmon, you'll have to keep watching the reports, but unless a major run that heads up the river right before you go, there should be a good number of salmon staging in front of the river from 60 fow on in.

  11. we had planned to but as of today couple buddies had to stay behind for school, might head up next weekend though for one last trip...good luck this weekend though... i knew you were fishing the challenge and tried to give you a call on 5 to see if your in mex but must have missed ya

  12. ah i see and last week we had the spot to our self as everyone was inside of the area, another area that doesn't show up on that site is near 9 mile, i've lost the way points but you'll see the fish doctor fishing this area in about 120 fow past cat fish towards 9 mile, there is a bunch of structure there that always holds fish but unforchantly this spot is not easy to find and the only way to find it is to see if ernie is in their fishing it. ie his lil honey hole to find big kings! good luck to all this weekend and catch a 40 pounder for god's sake!

  13. haha ya ya i know theres fish everywhere...just stating the fact that when temp is everywhere and the fish are being pressured that hard that if you slide out side and find a little bit of structure like that there will be fish around them even though its out deeper and temp is screwy

  14. i was there from the 22 through the 24 and yes we heard the temps changed inside near the pack but out by us the temp stayed constant...then again our cannon has been acting up so who knows if i was reading the right temp but this spot has produced fished every year since the 80's when my dad chartered out there seems the fish just stick around that piece of sturcture

  15. ray if you go to mex bay again take a direct line from the salmon river to 9 mile when u reach 138 fow u'll see it drop pretty quickly to 155 that little bit of structure was holding a lot of fish last weekend...find the 50 to 55 degree which was about 80 to 104 down...fish usually stay around that structure until they head up the river....hope this helps and good luck
