  1. Fished 6:30 to noon generally just east of the river. Did the north troll from 60 fow out to 140 fow. Spent most of the morning in 130-140. Steady coho bite from 8-10:30am, pulled 10 coho, a small steelie and went 2 for 3 on kings (14,18lbs). Coho were from the surface down to 70', generally my stinger sliders and small long lead diver were the hottest setups. One king was on the nbk stinger on the 70' rigger, the other on silver glo/green 28 on the 10 color,knot at the tip, dumped another off the 40' rigger. I had around 46 degree surface water in that area, but it was a slow steady drop in temps all the way out from 56 degrees off the river in 60'.

  2. The problem is that the fuel fill line is very much adhered to the tank fitting and I do not see a very good way of getting the tubing off the fitting w/o cutting and as JBB says... sparks from hitting the metal in the tubing near the gas line is an accident waiting to happen...

    I was looking for any other methods/ideas of loosening that tubing to tank fitting, so I could get this line replaced as a preventive measure to avoid the ineviditable deterioration.

  3. Heads up for anyone with their boat in the water, esp. with canvas tops and East of Rochester... forecast is going to be very interesting for Sunday and Monday.

    FASTER SATURDAY NIGHT...AND THEN SLAMMING THE ENTIRE AREA WITH

    1.0-1.5" OF QPF SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT...WHICH WOULD LIKELY BE IN

    THE FORM OF A HEAVY WET SNOW GIVEN CURRENT MODEL SOUNDINGS AND

    SURFACE TEMPERATURE PROJECTIONS. THIS SCENARIO IS THE RESULT OF MUCH

    EARLIER PHASING OF NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN STREAM ENERGY OVER THE

    GREAT LAKES COMPARED TO EARLIER RUNS...AND IS A SOLUTION THAT IS AT

    ODDS WITH FORECAST CONTINUITY AND THE SLOWER AND STILL MORE-EASTERLY

    SOLUTIONS OF THE ECMWF/UKMET/AND CANADIAN GEM...WHICH DO NOT PHASE

    ENERGY FROM THE TWO STREAMS AS QUICKLY...AND ARE MORE FAVORED BY

    HPC.

    CONSIDERING THE LACK OF CONFIDENCE IN THE NAM AND GFS AT THIS

    POINT...FEEL THAT IT IS BEST TO LEAN IN THE DIRECTION OF CONTINUITY

    AT THIS TIME...AND CONTINUE WITH A SOMEWHAT SLOWER/LOWER QPF

    SCENARIO FOR SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY...THOUGH POPS WILL STILL BE

    HIGH /LIKELY TO CATEGORICAL/ FOR SUNDAY. AS SUCH...WILL ALSO BE

    HOLDING OFF ON ANY HEADLINES...AND WILL JUST CONTINUE TO MENTION THE

    UPCOMING EVENT IN THE HWO AT THE MOMENT.

    LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...

    IMPRESSIVE EAST COAST STORM WILL BE OFF THE DELMARVA PENINSULA

    SUNDAY NIGHT AND DEEPENING RAPIDLY. SURFACE LOW WILL BE 3-4

    STANDARD DEVIATIONS BELOW WITH A VERY STRONG EASTERLY COMPONENT...

    AT AN IMPRESSIVE 5 STANDARD DEVIATIONS FROM NORMAL. THE WESTERN NY

    AREA HOWEVER WILL NOT BE DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY THIS MONSTER WHICH

    APPEARS TO BE WELL HANDLED BY THE ENSEMBLE DATASETS THUS FAR. THERE

    IS SOME CONCERN OF SNOW OVER THE EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE BUF

    FORECAST AREA...SAY EAST OF KROC AND PARTICULARLY EAST OF LAKE

    ONTARIO. HOWEVER ITS STILL SEVERAL DAYS AWAY. WILL ADDRESS THIS IN

    AN UPDATED HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK THIS AFTERNOON.

    THE LOW HITS A WALL DUE TO THE STRONG HIGH PRESSURE NORTH OF MAINE

    AND STALLS OVER SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND BY MONDAY NIGHT...EVENTUALLY

    WEAKENING AND HEADING EAST OUT TO SEA ON TUESDAY. NORTHEASTERLY

    FLOW WILL BRING RAIN/SNOW TO THE AREA THROUGH MONDAY...WITH

    PRECIPITATION ENDING FROM WEST TO EAST ON TUESDAY.

    You stuck around this neck of the woods and kept fishing... even after Jim Shoes and everyone tried corrupting you at the Oak!

    I actually bought my dad's old Grady back from Mark Lewis last Fall and am on IBay now.

  5. Could probably fill up the board with this one...

    1.) All of the mates enjoyed trying to get clients sick onboard the other boards when it was rough, so this one August day was no different... nice rough day, banter all over the radio about peanut butter and lard sandwiches, pickle juice with lemonade, pork rinds any bad food is free game... well my boat had an annoying little boy that was starting to feel it, sitting right across from the captain, he's laying it on thick to him about all kinds of bad food when the kid projectile vomits all over him, just covers the captain from head to waist!

    2.) Had a grilling party one night and decided to wrap italian sausages into condoms and string them up one of the captains outriggers for the morning... little did we know that he would have a couple women on board the next morning and of course the wrapped sausages would fall to the deck when he hit the first wave in the morning!

    3.) Standing rule onboard my Dad's boat was no dumping in the portapot, unless it was the captain, so the vision of one of my buddies deciding he'd rather park his drunk white _ss on the gunwale between the two riggers, drop tro and go to work will forever be engrained in my head.

    4.) Had four very large black guys on a charter, regular charter for years, and they brought plenty of Soul Food with them every year... when it got to be about the right time of the morning... the 4 sweet potatoe pies would come out... I swear each of them had four hands as they all dove in fist and all... something I'll never forget.

    5.) One of our regular crazy charters, drunk as a skunk, catchs a 20lber , stands up on the doghouse with his catch, starts kissing it, fills its mouth with his beer, lip locks the salmon and chugs his beer!

    I better stop now... I might start incriminating a few people...

  6. Two words... Troll Direction... esp. with that much cable and wire out... you obviously had the right combo's working for the wire to be firing... sometimes, you can't get both working in tandem, but I would think that over that many days, you would have...

    Were you mainly trolling with and against the waves? Was there any wave action?

    Typically, the junk lines will fire better than riggers on a troll into the waves and esp. when turning into them (slow side)... subtle hints to pay attention to when junklines are working better than riggers.

    If there is wave action, trying to turn subtly wander 10 to 15 degrees away from straightline trolling, to help the rigger presentation will help.

    One other pointer, whatever direction of troll... pay attention to where your riggers are tracking, make sure that all lines are tracking as straight behind the boat as possible, the worst thing you can do for riggers is try to troll directly cross current... If you want to troll North, due to waves and currents, you may need to troll more NE or NW than anything in order to get north with a heavy E-W current... esp. in the Western Basin. If there is a heavy current noted, slightly turning into and out of that current will help your whole set.

  7. There are a few differences between them, but nothing to hinder a saltwater unit being used in freshwater.

    Differences are mainly in that a "saltwater" engine (ie. Johnson/Envinrude Oceanrunner Series) will be more corrosion resistent internally and externally. Saltwater outboards will have a direct hookup to allow easy freshwater flushing after use and they will completely tilt out of the water to limit corrosion exposure.

    I left that country home after the holidays and have been cruising the French Riviera on my Mega Yacht for the past month. My Wi-Fi connection has been a bit funky at times, but I got it figured out. Thank God, I was getting a bit out of touch with the States...

    Anyway, I'm impressed... you've been keeping up with your history and geography, either that or you actually are still connected with the underground KGB (so much for the cover now).

  9. Yep... it is an umbrella rig... I've used them on the ocean effectively for bluefish rigged onto a rod with wire line. Bluefish are highly aggressive when feeding in schools and will hit anything that touches the water at the times of tide changes.

    Just my take, but probably the only times you would stand a chance of the rig working and getting two kings to bite simultaneously would be at the bar in the Spring when they are feeding savagely and there are great numbers or in the Fall when they are hitting out of aggression and you're on a large school. Otherwise, you'd probably be wasting your time with it, nevermind the mess in the net if you did draw a bite!

  10. I agree with Jerry... a log can be very good info, esp. if you're able to keep the old ones with you on the water and can refer to them on a tough day...

    Everything should be in there from water temps, lure depths, water depth, speeds, lures, lat/lon and troll direction.. also record the weather conditions, winds and waves.

    I don't do it anymore as I'm not on the water trolling as much as I'd like to be, but if you're out most weekends and some weekdays, it can be worth the time. It also helps you look for patterns a bit better during the day, replicate what you have been doing to draw bites and forces you to pay more attention to the finer details during the action.

  11. Well... I got it figured out... disk cleanup utility does not do the trick... the cookies are still there... also, I could not see the following directory until I went under Control Panel/Internet Options/General Tab and viewed the Browsing History/Settings/Files tab.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

    I cleaned out everything in that directory and now I can login and it will keep me logged in as well.

    So, I hope this helps some others who have e-mailed me with similar issues. It seems as though the old cookie from the old website may have kept superceding the new one...

  12. I have twin 170's in mine pushing a 25 Grady (a good 8000 lbs with a full tank of gas(125gal)). By the flow meters and gas bills... I push about 7gph thru each cruising at 3500 rpm. Wide open, with the correct prop you should get close to 4400rpm. At trolling speeds, you should not push thru more than about 1 gph in the engine. So, if you head offshore 1/2 hr out/ 1/2 hr back in and troll for eight hours, you should not be burning much more than 15 gallons of gas. Electronic ignitions really helped the engine performance as well.

  13. I'm using 30lb Fireline (Smoke) on one diver and wire on the other. Both produce, depends upon the day. Wire will go deeper, but it's not drastically different between the two. I have experienced flea issues with both Wire and Fireline, but feel that Fireline collects fewer than the wire.
