  1. I have a summit also..bout 10 yrs old this one is 16 lbs and if properly secured to yer back you can shoot yer bow if the need arises ..got a decent 8pt walkin slow to my tree on the ground with it on...nice and comfy ...........dont drop nuttin like yer release....i have heard that could happen....skip the wind, weather ,and I am ready......i have 1/2 a notion to go deposit one of my bags of buck tarsal on the big boys scrape area......i did that 1 bow season and a big boy was bedded down 5 ft from my tree ,,,,,,,i spooked him in the dark  (ok he spooked me)  at first light i grunted him in and missed at 25 yds (bow)..oh well back before range finders i missed more than a few.

  2. hmm hunting walmart..........that would fall into "BIG GAME" hunting,,,,,definatly a place for" MEAT" hunters   ...my wood will never be the same............

Ps .for you guys not happy with my groups ...keep in mind when i sight in i use a walkin stick, standing and kneeling position not a lead sled and a shooting bench.........

  3. thanks ,hey gill i might bring the browning for some good" sound" shots just to thin the vegatation a little, years ago we might have 2 or 3 guys filtering some beer sharing the stories like the last 60 pages of this post....now we sit at home with a pc on our lap sharing our life with some people we probly will never meet..but its almost as fun just without the hangovers,,,but just like camp the bs flys, advise is given ,and we dont have to wait a week for our film to be devoloped to see the "Big One" some one got...the way i see it is at 58 maybe i gots 20 years to hunt without a walker, thats only 20 more deer seasons,,,,worse yet ,thats only 20 more opening days if the bones will keep me upright..so thanks for sharing your stories,be safe ,may you be blessed with a great and safe opening day,and maybe just maybe "Old Moe" will step into your shooting lane.........hope ya got one in the chamber, nerves of steel and hold that half breath...................get buck fever................and miss................ so i can get that SOB...

    Love Ray K.

  4. this one was poached on private land 1/2 mile from my secret spot  27in inside  ,hopefully the one im after will match it but as we know them big boys are happy laying all day and their is some tall genetics in this area, also judging from the print size it will be a goodun.

  5. the heart is 5 in on a big deer if im off by 1in at 180 yds im good with that,,i havent missed one since the new law in the southern zone.1 shot 1 kill..................but in my youth with the browning A-5 I might of been one of those volley of 5 shots in the woods,i just smile in my stand now when i hear that.........and wait...........and hope i dont come unglued before the shot.....just wanna beat this one  ..its been 2 years since my last 150 plus

  6. for the past 2 years i have seen a smasher on the border of a very heavy patch of brush, mexican bamboo and river grass,i did not bow hunt this area yet this year.. but yesterday i put up "The Stand" 35 ft high i can see 200 yds in every direction it might be a 5 min sit or all day ray sit...but i know he is there............i think...but with 40 years under me belt  i'm gonna bet on me....i have to enter the river 1/2 mile up stream paddle in the dark and get the 20 yds to my tree canoe hiding spot....i might even bring my video camera...if nuttin else it sounds like fun............if i dont forget my shells..........coffee ,,,buck pee,doe pee,pee bottle ect ect,the .270 was puttin 1 in groups at 100yds and 6in at 180 yds so with my hopes as high as my stand im starting to get a little excited ....only problem is when we pulled our trail cams today their was a smasher 12 pt 10 miles away in the area i got my bow buck....what was that old Pro/Am saying......................................"The only thing worse than having a plan, is having a plan and not sticking to it"............well their is always sunday......................... I'm sticking to the river bottom big buck....unless?????

  7. i know very little of crosbows, but if yer target shooting fine,, then after its cocked for a few hours while sitting i would suspect one of the limbs is stressed or damaged after a time it warps or  a weak spot is amplified ....thats one reason as i understand you MUST discharge after every day of being cocked.................just a thought ..

  8. looks like liver blood if ye near corning i can find it for ya,,,,,,,also a good vein shot in the hind quarters will do the same if thats the case and you have been bumping him up things might get a little tuff  if ya hit the hind leg on the left he should be doing a gradual left turn,,but if ya bump it hard very likly it will do a 90%plus deg turn right

  9. i feel yer pain jake couple days ago in the rain i decided to still hunt for a doe,,in the first hour i traveled almost 200 yds when i stalked to 55 yds from this doe   ....the shot felt good but you can see i was 1/4in low and 1/8th in to the left....at least i found her after a 15 yd run

  10. I use a true talker,,i can adjust the grunt tone from a young buck to a mature by moving finger placement ...I have been lucky enuf to spend many many more hours in the woods than the normal (I aint normal) person.....but i learned more about white tail behavior in one trip to a private farm in Indiana....I saw trophy and imature bucks and all age does interact in 5 hours than i have whitnessed in one place in the previous 40 years hunting...i never heard a doe bleet ,buck roar and snort,,buck groan, sneeze or fart...just suttle grunts from spikes to smashers. the grunt   timing change and intensity between when they were doing their "hey im here come get me"      .....to....," ok im on yer ass and yer mine if you ever slow down"...dont get me wrong deer have a pretty large vocabulary including the "bleet" but i have never heard a doe bleet and 1 let alone 20 bucks coma runnin....I was blessed with 6 more week to 10 day hunts( Opening day gun and 1 bow hunt) there before my friend passed.....over the next 7 years....if some one told you I saw 15 to 20 different bucks from 1 stand in 4 hours and at least 10 were smashers you would walk away wondering what dream they were in ....well i have hours of video from that tree with what i saw in almost disbelief being a NY woods hunter. Some hunting skills can be taught ,,but most are or should be taught from your mistakes when hunting......When i close my van door the hunt starts not when i get to my stand ....I listen to every sound,,,,in the dark, I daylight,,try to see every thing from a old print, fresh print, nibbled brouse, broken spyder webs , branches,i dont look out and see trees i see the opening between the trees. well either im full of crap or i have pruf in the pudding.......pay attention to every thing you see hear or smell,,, that twig you thought you heard might be a big buck thinkin,, dam i steped on another one and stand like a statue for 5 min......here enjoy what i have been blessed with .............Ray......too many to post here are a fewpost-139681-0-70880200-1446858588_thumb.jpg
