I wouldn't count on it. They've been stocking Atlantics for years and they have never "taken" and they never will. It's a foolish waste of funds on a fish that doesn't want to live here anyway and is ill equipped to deal with the kings, browns, lakers and steelhead.

Here's a 20# Atlantic headed to a client in Florida.

Many thanks!
I'm always picturing what could go wrong and with running only divers and copper so far I've been unpleasantly surprised a couple of times at how bad it can get. Not nearly as much as I should have been though, thanks to all the knowledge shared on this site.
Almost all "unpleasant" surprises are caused by not being aware of what's going on. Letting a long copper out on a turn. Free falling a diver. Allowing a fish to actually get into another line before moving it.
Situational awareness solves most problems. Most. [emoji15][emoji849]

I've never had leadcore or copper become fouled by fleas. Maybe a little at the knot but that's it. It's one of the advantages of core and copper during flea season.

So if you're running a fluoro leader with spoons do you do that if you're, say, running a Mup rig?
If so, how do you connect the leader so that when the Mag gets hit you don't have a mess when the snap slides down the mainline?
I'll be running riggers for the first time this year and love the concept of a Mup rig but it'd be nice to avoid as many early messes as I can. Thanks,
Fluoro leader is attached to mainline with back to back uni knot or spro swivel. Your slider/Cheater will slide right over the connection down to the mainline spoon.

No. Use them as clean mono rods and add snap weights as needed.

Thermacell works great on stable flies and the harmless, yet annoying, midges.

Flashers can be run at spoon speed. And should be. Sometimes. [emoji16]

Mid July is a great time
To fish Orleans county. Bald eagle may have rooms completed by then but if not there are lots of cottages and lodging just to the west at Point Breeze.

June Transition talk ..... I think people use June as an excuse for poor fishing.
The lake is always in a transition and the old days of the thermocline holding all the fish are wrong in my opinion.
Fish are deeper with clear water its colder down there. Not the magic 50's everyone looks for on the fish hawk.
Fishing tactics are evolving. Seems like downrigger bites are less and less.
More fish are caught on lures away from the boat with side presentations from what I can gather.
Alrighty then......

I always wanted to enter the SSS but couldn't because of charter commitments at the Oak. If it were moved, even for only this year, my charter would probably fish it and if they enjoy it would be more likely to make the trip to Sandy in 2024 when the water goes down. [emoji849]

SSS should be moved to the Oak. Just sayin....

great thanks for the input. throwing out some hypothetical situation to see what people thoughts are. if the map was up to date the morning your fishing and you don't have any buoy temps, would you need to be concerned with current if the temps are up to date?
Everything likes an "edge". That said, the edge could be on the surface or below the surface. Satellite temp graphs are useful tools but only when they are well detailed and you keep in mind that quite often kings can be a half mile from the "break" and still orienting to it.

I bought 2 300' spools of 60# thinking it was 45#. I wanted to run a 300 and 400 of the lighter. Anyone have experience with the heavier wire. Should I run 200, 300? I'm having trouble finding charts on 65# which makes me think it's not as useful.
Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Why not just return the 60 and exchange for the 45?

If a fish isn't bleeding, puking or pooping it cannot lose weight. Where would it come from? For a fish to lose weight through dehydration it would have to shrivel up--even then it wouldn't be near as much as you think.

Team Free Spirit needs an observer for this weekend in Wilson. Must be available Thursday eve for about an hour and all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Free Spirit is a 10M Trojan so you'll be riding on a big comfortable boat of comparable size. We pay $75 per day. (Contrary to what some might tell you). [emoji15]
Text me at 716-390-0085.
Thanks
Paul

Unfortunately, I'm not local so I kinda gotta either make the trip or dont. I watch the weather channel app for precip., iwindsurf for wind and always take a look at NOAA too.
Am I right in guessing that the bar area with 20+ mph east wind is basically not fishable in a 21 foot boat?
I usually fishbthe western basin of Erie so I'm guessing "bad" winds for Niagara area are similar to here...east being worst followed by north?

20+ east is not fishable in ANY boat.

So...we all know how accurate weather forecasts are(nt) BUT as of now it looks like rain all this coming weekend, how does rain typically effect the spring bite, good bad or indifferent?
Wind doesn't look great Friday or Sunday either but first things first I guess

Rain doesn't bother fish. They're already wet.
The biggest factor limiting success at this time of year will be the big NE winds we can get. East or north east winds will push the kings back into Canada.

Out of the oak it's 60-80 this time of year. They aren't difficult.

Back to back uni knots work well when joining two sections of blood run. No need to respool if some fleas show up. The past several years they haven't been bad enough for long enough to even warrant the change.
I've been running straight Sea Flee for several years now.

Speed do you run flashers
in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Posted
You guys are WAY overthinking this. Most meat rigs can be run at any speed that flies and spoons are run at. The exception would be big "okie" type flashers which generally require a slower trolling speed. E chips pulling meat can be run at the same speed you would pull them with flies. Spin doctors are the most forgiving of all and can be run at almost any speed.
The secret with meat is the "roll". Figure that out and you'll find the "secret" to fishing meat.
