  1. The St Catharines Game & Fish Association is proud to announce that the 45th Annual Spring Salmon Derby is set to run from Sat April 3 to Sat June 5 (9 weeks!!)

     

    Some of the highlights include:

     

    Biggest Salmon overall will win $5000

     

    Biggest Salmon every 3 weeks will win $2000 & the 2nd biggest Salmon every 3 weeks will win a pair of trolling weights from POW. The 3rd biggest Salmon every 3 weeks will win a Silver Salmon challenge entry ticket.

     

    Biggest Salmon in the Junior division will win a $1000 value fishing kayak from DAS KING

     

    Top 10 overall prizes for Salmon, Rainbow, Brown & Lake Trout

     

    Top 3 overall prizes for Junior division in all species

    Members division prizes for all species

     

    Early bird draw: all tickets bought by March 27 will qualify to win a set of rod holder trees from Moby Nick.

     

    All tickets bought qualify to win a Scotty 1116 Downrigger. As well, everyone who places in the top 10 main leaderboard receives an additional draw entry.

     

    For all Ontaro Sportfishing Guides Association members, the boat who weighs in the largest Salmon amongst 2021 OSGA members wins a 2022 Boat ticket.

    The St Catharines Game & Fish Association is proud to announce that the 45th annual Spring Salmon will be running from Sat April 4 to Sat June 6, and that the Summer Splash For Cash Derby will be running from Sat June 13 to Sat Sept 19.

     

    We are thankful for the support of our generous sponsors and all the participating anglers over the years which has allowed us to keep this event running and to offer the prize structure that we have as well as some new changes this year.

     

    Back again, is the Early Bird Draw; purchase your Spring tickets by Mon March 23 and you will be eligible to win a set of Rod Holder Trees from Moby Nick Tackle Worx (Cutoff is 5pm for online sales and at Peters, Bills Bait & Tackle & Grimsby Tackle) Tickets will be sold up until the time of draw at our March General Meeting, on Mon March 23.

    We will also be having an early bird draw for a free 2020 Launch Ramp Pass in Port Dalhousie. Everyone who purchases a 2020 SCGFA Membership by March 23 will qualify.

    The Junior Division is back with 3 placings, for all 4 species, and the Members Division is also back too!

     

    **New, for the Summer Splash For Cash Derby, we are opening up the boundaries to include Lake Erie and the Upper Niagara River, as well as a Walleye Division, while the Brown & Rainbow Trout will be combined to one division. All 5 species are eligible from either water body.

     

    **A special bonus for 2020, to celebrate our 90th Anniversary, we are adding a “$90 per pound bonus” to the largest overall Salmon, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout & Walleye caught from April 4 – Sept 19. Example: if a 30lb Salmon is the largest Salmon caught overall between the two derbies, an extra $2700 will be added to the $5000 prize.

    Other potential Bonus prizes will be added, stay tuned to the website & social media platforms for those announcements.

     

    For all of the guides and charter boats who purchase boat tickets for our derbies, we will be adding a listing section on our website to link to your websites and/or social media pages.  There is no additional charge for this and you will be added to it shortly after your purchase is complete. Please contact us if you are not listed and should be. We appreciate your support!

     

    **New this year we are adding a Guides/Charter Boat Challenge for all those who buy Boat Ticket AND are registered Ontario Sportfishing Guides Association members. For the Spring Derby, the boat (captain) who accumulates the heaviest total weight amongst top 10 Main Leaderboard & Junior Division placings will win a Free boat Ticket for the Summer Derby. The winner of the same challenge for the Summer Splash For Cash Derby, will win a Free Boat Ticket for the 2021 Spring Derby. AND the Boat (captain) who accumulates the heaviest total weight amongst top 10 Main Leaderboard & Junior division Division placings for both 2020 Spring & Summer Derbies combined will win a $300 valued prize package.

     

    Finally all those who purchase Spring & Summer derby tickets will again eligible to win an additional Scotty Electric Downrigger, which will be drawn at our Derby Awards Night (TBA)

     

    Our ticket Prices have not changed ! For online purchases please print your invoice or keep your invoice # as a reference,  that will serve as your ticket to use at the time of weigh-in

  4. The St Catharines Game & Fish Assc. is teaming up with the St Catharines Bassmasters and the Strait Line Anglers Club to present the 2020 Niagara Fishing Tackle Swap on Sat Feb 1. It will take place at Laura Secord Highschool, 349 Niagara Street, St Catharines, Ontario Canada

     

    Over 50 tables with a wide variety of vendors selling various, rods, reels, new, used & custom made tackle as well as electronics & other accessories.

     

    Local businesses such as Grimsby Tackle, Peters Tackle, Bills Bait & Tackle and St Catharines Marina will also be there!

     

    Admission at the door for those shopping will be either a non-perishable or $2, all which will be donated to Community Care.

  5. So many easy ways to cook it.
    I like to grill fillets with skin on, with a silicone mat or cedar plank. A simple light season of salt, and garlic pepper. I also like with teriyaki sauce. Some like to lightly brush on maple syrup.

    I also actually fry it too, same as walleye or perch. I cut up the big fillets in small nugget sizes. A simple fry recipe is to soak nuggets in buffalo sauce, then coat in flour, then deep fry.... thank me later ;)
