  1. There is rather more than a 2’ difference between the amount of DR cable out and actual depth of your weight    blowback ( and the actual depth of your lures) is depending on speed , currents , and the weight of your weight (pun intended)   my probe shows actual depth of my presentation. There are times I’ve had to let out 150 ‘of cable to reach 100 ft down   Watch the angle of your cable the more the angle , the more cable you have to let out to reach the desired depth. Don’t rely on your sonar to tell you how deep you’re fishing  it can only tell you how far your weight is from the ducer , not how deep it is

  2. This topic has been addressed many times on this forum. There are charts that can show the approximate depth of your weight using math , amount of cable out and the angle of blowback  using your sonar ( distance finder ) to track your weights does NOT show you the true depth of your weight  , only the distance of the weight from the transducer  if you have 100 ft of cable out and you have  20° of blowback , your weight (and lure ) are actually running at about 80 ft   Your sonar may show that you are fishing at 100 ft , but it’s actually showing the distance from the ducer , not the true depth  takes a while to get your head around this but it’s true. All geometry

Example of data from the site for Sunday morning, 6/4, in the Olcott area, LO:

Definitely one of the better sites , BUT , with over 40 years of fishing on LO , I can guarantee that you should add 1 ft to ANY wave height prediction. If it says 1-3 , you can bet on 2-4  etc.

  4. You are correct about the king action starting in mid July on the east end of the lake   I’ve been fishing LO since the late 70’s and it’s the same year after year. The major influx of water into the lake is the Niagara River  The bait and the majority of pelagic fish tend to gather here  it is what it is. If you want king and coho action before July you will have to go west

  5. Don’t want to be a “ Karen “. But be careful posting pictures of fish caught out of season. My buddy got a nice fine for exactly that   The reg  is posted below

    Closed Season Restriction

A person may not fish for a species (even if immediately released) during the closed season for that species on a given water. Fish caught during the closed season must be unhooked and released immediately. They may not be handled for any other purpose.

  6. The black flies he is referring to in the Adirondack region are only around in the late spring and early summer. They are tiny little critters with BIG teeth. You hardly feel the bite but they will draw blood and if you are sensitive to the bite ( as the writer is ) you will have a nasty itching bleeding bump for a long time  if you are outside in the north country in May you will have clouds of the things around your head. Most deet containing sprays will repel them for a while

I source my PFAs straight from the lab, so I know exactly how much to use to get that perfect flavor.

Seriously, though, and not to hijack this thread, but over the past decade I have become severely alcohol intolerant. I have a hangover before getting a buzz!! I'd think that it's a me thing, except that there's at least several of us on this board alone that now have the same issue. It happened as we got older. Knowing how some of these chemicals manufactured in labs can interact with our genome in unexpected ways makes me wonder how prevalent this sort of age-onset allergy is these days, and whether it's linked to environmental toxins. There's begun to be some interest at the national level in this sort of general phenomenon. We know the incidence of childhood food allergies are rising, and it's not crazy to extrapolate to older adults.

Anybody else here experience unexplained allergies with age?  Of the eight or so folks I know with alcohol intolerance, all are men. Obviously, I'm not claiming cause-and-effect with fish borne toxins, but it's enough to make me raise one eyebrow and throw this out there for discussion.

I think you have something here !!!  I have grown allergic to politicians as I age

  8. There is a wealth of information in the thread “ wind turbines on Lake Ontario “ at the top of this forum.  As to the size of the blades and towers fitting through the locks , that was not an issue. The public boat launch at Henderson harbor was to be the staging area for construction. The harbor dredged to allow work boats to access the launch. The entire launch would be put off limits to recreational use during construction. Just one of the many reasons to fight this misuse of the green energy initiative

  9. This has been an issue for more than 14 years   NYSERDA was directed by the then gov Cuomo , to do a feasibility study. There have been many attempts to place wind turbines offshore and on Galloo Island , the latest that I’m aware of was from Iberdrola , a Spanish power company. The Towns of Henderson and Sackets harbor retained legal counsel to thwart them and they eventually pulled the plug   TheGov stated “ the state , not the towns , would determine where wind turbines would be placed “  taking the townships out of the equation. I’m glad NYSERDA did a complete study and didn’t gloss over the downside.  We need to keep a close eye on the NY politicos. There is big money involved and great opportunities for corruption

  10. I say again. I bought a battery load tester. It places a load on a battery ( in vehicle or out ) to test for weak cells.  The multimeter voltage can only tell the state of charge   It can determine if a battery is capable of holding a charge while at rest. If it can’t maintain a full charge it would be useful as an anchor
