No alternator?  With that measurement is that considered a long shaft?

    It does have an alternator.

I don't know how to answer the long/short shaft question.  When I look up specs, it says 15" transom height is short and 20" is long.  I measure 18" from transom clamp to cavitation plate.  Maybe someone else can help me out here.

On a nice day with calm weather predicted I wouldn't have any problem with that run at all. You are right I'd much rather ride in the boat than the truck. Weather forecast will certainly play a key role in what I do. I know I am looking forward to getting up there and putting everybodys advice to use.

Watch out for strong south winds in the forecast.  That lake can get some pretty big waves at the north end with a south wind.  Anything else, you'll be fine.

Wow!  That's awesome!  We had a 4 hour run to grounds out of NJ and spent 30 hours fishing...pretty beat when we got back!

  4. The parking scenario for trucks & trailers kinda sucks but you'll manage (Up the hill across the street). If you motor south on the west side, you'll pass Red Jacket Yacht club (you'll see the sail boats).  Not long after you'll drop to 100 FOW and see large green lawns on the west shore.  You can setup there and troll east.  You'll see farm silos on the east and west shores that you can troll between.  Have fun!  Can't wait to see the reports!

  5. It's no secret that Watkins has a sewage treatment problem. Plans have been in the works for a bigger more modern treatment facility. The facility currently has had shut downs and Raw sewage has had to be dumped. ( They were fined 700,000$ a day for everyday they dumped raw sewage into the lake during the Phish concert) This would certainly contribute to a bacterial problem...

That's sad, especially since the bulk of the lake's rainbows spawn there.
