Does anyone know if the 91 octane at the Citgo in Port Ontario is ethanol-free? I only use ethanol-free in my marine engines and if it will save me a trip into Pulaski, that will be great. Thanks for the help!

I need a pair of formed rails for my 1997 Arctic Cat Puma. Both have cracks in them, one crack is pretty bad. I recently purchased the sled and didn't see the cracks on initial inspection. Rest of the sled is in really good shape. I've checked around and Arctic Cat shows them as unavailable and obsolete. I'm open to a nice, undamaged set of used rails at this point. Let me know what you have or if you know where I might find a set. Thanks!

I ended up getting the Shakespeare splitter and I'm blown away with how great the reception is now. Every radio station comes in crystal clear. Thanks for the suggestion!Do you have a VHF on board? There is a splitter available allowing your antenna to work for the stereo as well. Works really well!

I've always had excellent success with Standard Horizon VHF radios. I also have a handheld radio as a backup should the fixed-mount fail. As with any communication device, your antenna is the heart of the entire system. Make sure you have a quality antenna, as well. VHF is "line of sight", so the higher the antenna, the better range you will have.

Thanks, J.D. Yes, can't hurt to try.Older Starcraft tops and curtains were made by a company called "Taylor Made"
They may still have the pattern for your boat, able to make an exact replacement. Sending them an email can't hurt.

Thanks, Shakemsam. I'll keep my eyes open here.Great Lakes Skipper has some stuff. Other than that...keep checking the forum here. I was lucky enough to get brand new factory side and aft curtains here, for my Sea Nymph. Then there's CL and Ebay.

Just curious if anyone has any insight on a company or business that may have leftover factory canvas in stock for my 221 Islander. I need a new aft curtain, as the mice somehow got to mine over the winter.
I had new Eisenglas made 3 years ago at a shop near me (I know the owner) and I reached out to him a month ago about my aft curtain. I took the old one to him and he said he could make it off the old one's pattern, be a week or two.
I called him Friday and he said he hasn't started it yet because he can't get the material. He said hopefully this week, but don't count on it. I've called a few other canvas shops and they all say the same thing, can't get the material.
About 10 years ago, I was able to get a complete factory original canvas set directly through Starcraft, but they don't show any available now, as the Islander has been discontinued for years now.
Any ideas on places that may have an original aft curtain available? Boat is a model year 2000.

Where I troll, reception is hit-n-miss. It's weird. If I'm trolling north or east, I pick up some stations. As soon as I loop around and troll back, the radio stations are scratchy. I had the wire antenna mounted on the starboard side window, so I attribute it to the antenna not being on land side, and when I'd loop around, the antenna would be facing Canada and wide open water.I have no antenna connected and pick up all the stations out on the water???

I do have a fixed-mount VHF. I'll look for the splitter you mentioned. That'd make things easy!Do you have a VHF on board? There is a splitter available allowing your antenna to work for the stereo as well. Works really well!

I'm looking to change out the wire antenna for the AM/FM radio on the boat. All the current one does is plug into the radio and then a coated wire (about 3' long) runs out behind the helm to the hole where all the wires come up and out to the electronics. It then attaches to the side window. Reception out on the lake is hit and miss, depending on the direction of travel. The radio is older and doesn't have any USB or Bluetooth capabilities.
Aside from mounting another antenna on the boat, what is everyone with an older radio using for reception? I'm mainly in Mexico Bay and off Oswego. Are there better glass-mount antennas that work well? Boat is a Starcraft Islander. Thanks for any input!

Rusty, are these still available?

I agree with Fishin' Addiction's suggestion. I have a NOCO Genius charger on my boat and it's, hands down, the best onboard battery charger I've ever had.

Nice trailers. Also consider the 5 Starr series, which is Load Rite's less expensive line. Same quality as the Load Rite line, but I think the big differences are bias ply tires and incandescent lights, where the Load Rite line comes with radials and LED lights.

Do you need a Simrad chartplotter/GPS for it to link to the coordinates or does it use a stand-alone GPS module to get the coordinates?
I put a simrad ap24 on mine... cable steer.... year #5.... should have done it years ago

I'm looking to add an autopilot to my 2000 Starcraft Islander 221. It has the 4.3L, rack and pinion cable steering and power assist. Are there any systems on the market that bolt to the existing rack and pinion behind the dash panel and would allow me to use the current steering system on the boat? A lot of the kits I'm seeing are all hydraulic and require a lot of work and changes to the boat to get the autopilot installed and operational. I'm a weekend warrior and not on the water every weekend. Thanks for any input.

I also have the Interstate 24M-XHD as my starting battery, but I have a Group 27 deep cycle which powers ALL of the electronics (downriggers, GPS, chartplotter, depth finder, AM/FM, etc), except the bilge pump, which is tied to the main battery. I have a relay system which charges both batteries while the engine is running, but disconnects them when the engine is off. That way, I'm sure the starting battery will have enough juice to start the engine and the 24M isn't being drawn down by the electronics. I also have an on-board dual bank charger for when the boat is on the trailer back at the house. I've had excellent luck with Interstate through the years.

I've had great luck with the Load Star Karrier radials.

Port Ontario Citgo
in This Old Boat
Posted
For anyone else wondering, yes, the Port Ontario Citgo does have non-ethanol fuel. It is 90 octane.
