It was definitely a zoo! We were out before daylight. At 6am it was like a parade out of the river.

Nice male on a red spoon with some glow striping that I added. He was colored pretty good and had several lamprey marks. Our scale said 25lbs but it's a cheap spring scale. Next fish came at 8:15 on a black and white spoon with a green ladder that I added. Nice female that our scale weighed at 24lbs. That one was successfully released. Both fish were on the west side of the pier on an east troll. Tons of boats out, I saw a few other hookups around, too.

No leaders with the spinnerbaits but I was using spiderwire braid which can handle a little bit of abuse. Even though I've lost pike before without a leader, I didn't bother with one. Depth was anywhere from 4 feet to 12 feet but always around some kind of structure, weed line or ledge.

I have a 1990 Evinrude 88 Special outboard. It's a 2 cycle and I've never had mixing problems whether I fill from cans or at a pump and add the oil afterwards. The other day I got gas at the marina's dock for the first time this year. Since then the boat has been dogging it and won't go over 17 mph. It feels like it gets a shot of clean fuel and speeds up, then dogs back down. It was running perfect every day all week until I fueled up there. I'm thinking bad gas. It's home now so I plan to add fresh gas, some dry-gas, clean the plugs. Any other thoughts?

We just got back from camping at Wellesley Island and I got out a few times. The pike we caught were all near structure of some sort. Casting open flats didn't produce anything. The pike seemed to be hanging around rocks and shoals that were surrounded by flats. In Eel Bay, we got a few off the shoals on the west side near Canoe Point State Park. Also off the opening of Delaney Bay on the north side of Grindstone Island. Also found a few in Blind Bay close to Watch Island. White spinerbaits caught the most with a few on medium depth crankbaits. For Largemouth, we found them around some of the deeper docks and off rock ledges right near shore. Didn't have any luck in the shallow slop, reeds or lilly pads. Spinnerbaits produced the most. Hope this helps.

I can't help you with the walleye but, if you're going for bass try first thing in the morning to avoid the jet skis and boat traffic. There's been a lot of guys jigging out in front of Arney's on the west side in 10-12 feet of water. Also try in shallower in the cove just south of there. Another place to try is around the islands on the east side of the bay. I prefer to fish the east sides to avoid the boats. If bass aren't cooperating, try for pike anywhere there's weeds in 8 or more feet. Especially if you can locate any weed edges. I like to fish the shoreline area on the west side, opposite Oak Park Marina. Hope this helps.

Try adding a trolling plate to your outboard. I have a 90 hp outboat and the trolling plate really slow the boat down while keeping rpm's up.

Thanks to everyone for the great tips! We fished Sat. morning for 3 hours in front of Chimney Bluffs and went 2 for 4. Started out with a double on but only landed one which was the first ever salmon in the boat. We'll be at it again next weekend.

We fished all over in front of the Bluffs on Saturday and didn't even catch a glimps of a smallmouth. Covered from 6 feet to 20 feet and found a whole lot of nothing. Normally this time of year, we at least spot them while drifting. It's possible the gobies have pushed them deeper but who knows?

I'm pretty new to trolling on Lake O and only go deep for salmon a few times a year and never really get much when I go. I have 2 riggers and 4 rods. No wire and no copper. I typically run one off the ball and one off a stacker on each side of the boat. My tackle consists of spoons, a couple flashers and dreamweavers and some flies. My question is what's my best chance for actually catching something the next couple weekends when I give it a try? I've been reading all the reports and have an idea of where on the lake to start but what's my best set-up to throw at them? I fish out of Sodus and Rochester. Also, does anyone use J-Plugs anymore? We fished for a few hours Friday morning and Sunday morning mostly in front of Russell Station. We went 1 for 2 on Friday and and 0 for 2 on Sunday but it really didn't matter with the great weather. First trips out this year so. The one we got came on a yellow and orange Cleo in 10 feet. Spoke with a couple other guys and it was slow for them, too.

Fished all morning at the south end. First on the west shore. We got a bunch of small gills and perch, no keepers. Had one flag that dropped the hook. We then picked up and went on the east shore the first point north of the launch and got a whole lot of nothing. Great ice. About 6 or 7 inches of hard black ice.

We fished the south end on Sunday. There was quite a few guys out there. We only managed a couple small perch. It was pretty slow. The only people I talked to that were getting anything were out the farthest in the deepest water. I watched a guy drill a hole out there. It took him 15 turns on the hand auger and he was through. The ice was only about 4" thich where we were, I can't imagine the thickness out where they were. I'd say stay off the south end until it gets colder. I punched through walking back about 50 yards from shore.

We fished the northeast corner for a few hours on Saturday. There's lots of perch in there but they're all small. We released 2 keepers out of dozens of fish caught. There's between 8 and 12 inches of ice in the cove and near the docks.

Went out yesterday (Monday) morning at daybreak for a couple hours. Just us and one other boat out. We got a whole lot of nothing and didn't see the other boat do much, either.

He hit a white twin tailed grub with a spinner.

Grabbed this one 5/3 while pike fishing. 4.2lbs.

We tried it Saturday morning. Fished the east side from the public launch to the next two points. I got a 4lb smallmouth off a rocky point and that was it. When the sun got high, we were seeing lots of largemouth in shallow especially off dock, also a few pike hanging in shallow but no luck. Worked the west shoreline back with similar results. A nice day to be on the water, though. A little warm weather should get it going.
