  1. I have never seen it happen in fresh water, but it does not have a Florida measurement sticker on it unless it was in Florida and probably in salt water.

The usual way to prevent and stop corrosion is by attaching sacraficial anodes (a block of zinc) to the lower unit. This will pick up the electric charge from between the boat and the water, the anode will corrode to the point where it needs to be replaced.

A complete layer of gluvit will stop the leaks, but you should first investigate whether any battery acid has ever been spilled on the inside and make sure to completely clean the inside, or the corrosion will just continue on the inside.

If you use Mozilla Firefox, you should google "aluminum boat corrosio" in the google on the left hand top of your screen and you will get a long list of reasons why, how to stop it,and how to repair. or go here:

  2. The scariest one was on Cape Cod,coming back from Race Point to Pamet Harbor at eleven o'clock at night. As we turned south around the race we came out of the lee and into the outgoing tide with 8 footers behind it. My brother in law decided that he was going to take us in on GPS only.He totally ignored the 5 second delay factor. We were tossed about for the better part of an hour until i could not myself in anymore and suggested that he should look out of the window. Then we just started running the edge of the waves in a zig zag pattern which brought us in to the mouth of the Pamet River.

  3. Seems to me that a couple months ago we felt a minor earthquake that was way south of here & the geologists said we felt it because the bed rock was so hard. (????) BTW Lake Ontario is a "glacial basin" & receives the great majority of its water from surface runoff.

This was not the only earthquake in the neighborhood.

There was another one that has been proven to be caused by tests concerning the storage of liquid natural gas (LNG) near Watkins glen. Now did you ever wonder why that was not much in the news and why you no longer hear anything about LNG storage near the Finger Lakes?

  4. Winter time is a time for story telling.

Please tell us about the craziest, most dangerous, most exiting, funniest or just plain most stupid thing you did this year.

Did you play chicken with an ocean going freighter? I know somebody who did just that, right in the middle of the shipping lanes.

You do not have to mention names, if your friends recognize themselves in an adventure you had this summer, they should be able to stay anonymous if they so choose.

Just remember, this is for a good laugh and not for scoring points.

  5. I have 2 units as well. A 5" Garmin GPS and Ray Marine 5" FF . Garmin pretty much leads the way for GPS. If I had the money there would be a Furuno FF sitting next to my Garmin. Although a GPS won't show you fish the map on mine shows the depth with in a foot of my FF . So if I lost my FF I could still fish with my riggers with some confidence .

    Good Luck

Nice thought, but the water levels change with the seasons while on your GPS they remain the same.

  6. I have separate units, both have a 4.5 inch screen. The fishfinder is a humminbird and the gps a garmin. The garmin gps gives me the convenience of planning a trip at home on my computer and then downloading it into the unit.I am very happy with this setup.

The only way I would change this to a single unit would be by having a much larger screen so the two functions are easily readable and adjustable while being side by side on the screen.

  7. I would start by putting the trailer on an angle so that all the water will drain out through the plug hole. the next thing to do is buying a few 10 foot 2 by 4s and 1 20+ foot 4x4. then build an A frame around the boat in a place that can hold the boat and trailer for a few months without sinking in the mud. Next, get a tarp that can cover the whole thing while leaving it open enough for air to flow through.By next spring you should be fine.

  8. When deer breed it is not always successful the first time around and the does that did not take the first time around or did abort at a very early stage, will go in heat for the second time, but only if they have plenty of food and they have to be in what is called a "positive energy period". This means that they are still gaining some weight. This is very similar to dairy cattle (about sixty days after calving) except that the rut period is only in fall.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

We fished with an 8 length 27 pound leadcore and an 18 pound 8 color leadcore + 2 downriggers . I tried stick bait on the rigger but no takers, so we just changed to typical brown trout lures. The first 2 fish were browns but then the next 2 that hit were the small mouth bass. Neither of them hit hard like you would expect from a bass but when we brought them in ,they gave a good fight. The first was 3.3 pounds and the second came in at 4.9. Then another browny and some time later the laker who behaved like a salmon. Towards the end another small browny.

The thing I learned today is that 18 pound test leadcore runs a lot deeper than the 27 pound.(I lost a lure getting it caught on the bottom) I did some checking and it turns out that 18 and 27 pound test leadcore have the same amount of lead per foot, which makes the 18 pound test run deeper.

Now it is time to winterize the boat.

    Cornelis.
