  1. I would start by putting the trailer on an angle so that all the water will drain out through the plug hole. the next thing to do is buying a few 10 foot 2 by 4s and 1 20+ foot 4x4. then build an A frame around the boat in a place that can hold the boat and trailer for a few months without sinking in the mud. Next, get a tarp that can cover the whole thing while leaving it open enough for air to flow through.By next spring you should be fine.

  2. When deer breed it is not always successful the first time around and the does that did not take the first time around or did abort at a very early stage, will go in heat for the second time, but only if they have plenty of food and they have to be in what is called a "positive energy period". This means that they are still gaining some weight. This is very similar to dairy cattle (about sixty days after calving) except that the rut period is only in fall.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

We fished with an 8 length 27 pound leadcore and an 18 pound 8 color leadcore + 2 downriggers . I tried stick bait on the rigger but no takers, so we just changed to typical brown trout lures. The first 2 fish were browns but then the next 2 that hit were the small mouth bass. Neither of them hit hard like you would expect from a bass but when we brought them in ,they gave a good fight. The first was 3.3 pounds and the second came in at 4.9. Then another browny and some time later the laker who behaved like a salmon. Towards the end another small browny.

The thing I learned today is that 18 pound test leadcore runs a lot deeper than the 27 pound.(I lost a lure getting it caught on the bottom) I did some checking and it turns out that 18 and 27 pound test leadcore have the same amount of lead per foot, which makes the 18 pound test run deeper.

Now it is time to winterize the boat.

  4. There is probably some very good news just around the corner on the front of plasma physics. Last week on NPR Science Friday there was an interview with an inventor who is successfully cutting the cost of plasma science fusion by roughly 95%. Instead of using the traditional extremely expensive accelerators (billions) he came up with an idea of inserting the materials into a centrifuge loaded with very hot gasified lead and while the material is in the center of this centrifuge he bombards it with shots of extremely highly pressurized air thereby increasing the velocity of the material to where it turns into plasma. So far the project looks very promising.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

Same as last Sunday, constant hits ,but this time my friend John was with me so we caught almost every last one that hit, although we also got some dinks that were dragged along. Nothing big this time, most fish were in the 18 to 20 inch range

The biggest surprise came that as we decided to call it quits,we had hits on both the leadcores and both down riggers which made for a succesful foursome that was boated.

I will try again next Sunday.

  6. Cornelis -

Thanks for the helpful report: "Glen do you remember the brown trout lure we used while pre-fishing the Pro-Am at Sodus Point? We bought every last one in the tackle store so nobody could get a hold of them. That one did all the damage, and as the paint got ripped off the lures, it only got better. I will have to buy a few more of those.

Guess I thought this board was meant to be helpful - glad that you and Glen get to keep your little secret. Although I doubt the browns can clearly identify the manufacturer and model of the "mystery lure" you were using, the rest of us appreciate your "candor." Thanks for being a true sportsman (when all of the paint is "ripped offf" the lures, maybe you can try goldfish?).

    Try and read again.

It identifies the lure as a "Stinger Superman" but I will help you even more. It is S97 or if you prefer the metallic version S126. S stands for Scorpion.

Next time please try to read the entire post. And as for goldfish. If you don't read the NYS bait fish regulations completely you might think that goldfish is legal bait.

  7. I have no problem with anyone breaking that law of not wearing a PFD provided I don't have to pay for the search & rescue team to find him, the ambulance, the police, the coroner, hauling his boat out, etc. My taxes get wasted on enough other things.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

It was supposed to be a perch fishing day, but after launching there seemed to be more waves in the bay than on the lake,so I decided to give the lake a try. Using a 6 color, an 8 color lead core and a rigger at 30 feet. Right out of the bay going east into 30 feet of water the first hit came and it never stopped . I had 3 doubles and 2 triples ,all of them cookie cutter 4 pounders except for the one that broke my 8 pound leader at first touch and another 8 pounder that I caught later. In the middle of what definitely was the best brown trout fishing trip I ever had, a big laker hit the lure on the down rigger and he gave as good of a fight as the eight pound brown. When they hit high up in the water they give a very good fight.

Glen do you remember the brown trout lure we used while pre-fishing the Pro-Am at Sodus Point? We bought every last one in the tackle store so nobody could get a hold of them. That one did all the damage, and as the paint got ripped off the lures, it only got better. I will have to buy a few more of those.

It was very amazing that my boat was the only one on the lake, one would think that everybody would be out for one last hurray

All in all a fantastic day on the lake.

    Cornelis.
