  1. Saturday I fished off catfish to Scriba from 6:30 until 9:30. We banged 2 browns by 7:00 off the dipseys in 40 FOW and didn't move a rod until almost 12:30 and got into a pod of feeding salmon in 150 FOW and we had a double and 2 more kings between 12:30 and 1:00. It seemed when that sun got high on Saturday the browns just shut right down. I ran 4 and 6 color LC off the back with sticks and spoons even and didn't get a rip when we fished for browns. Not sure if you have Planers they tend to work for me when the some come out, I just didn't feel right using them on Saturday.

  2. Just wondering how many of you on this site will be fishing in Jon's BT derby this weekend? I will be signing up for it tomorrow just curious how many others will be in it. Will be just my second time fishing in an event and my son's first not sure about my other teammate but know he's been in a few. Looking forward to meeting some of you at Jon's afterward if you are there.

  3. I have a nice canon digital camera that I hardly use anymore since I take most of my fishing pictures with my cell phone from the boat. I would like to put it to use in the video mode by mounting on the dash board facing the the back of the boat. I know they make some action cams out there, but it seems a waste to me to invest in one of those when I have a nice 12MP just sitting around collecting dust. Does anybody out there have any special case/ mounts that they use to take pics and video. The camera is not waterproof so a protective case is a must especially since I have a soft top. Anybody have something that they use currently with good results?

  4. Being a weekend warrior I use Okuma convector 30s for my 2- 50lb braid reels with room to spare and 2 wire line set ups with 1000'. They worked flawlessly the past 2 seasons. But from what I heard and seen (fishing with Rich D ) the Saltists are a great reel also. Just depends on what you want to spend on a reel.

  5. I purchased 2 Blue diamond roller rods last year. I like the smaller blue diamond roller rods because they are easier to get around in my smaller boat with and the rods puts the breaks to the salmon. My 10' 6" rigger rods with the twilli tip worked but we just too big for my narrow boat and were always in the way. The thing I didn't like about the blue diamond roller rods was that the wire was jumping the roller and getting stuck and I had lost a few fish whether they came unbuttoned or as in 2 cases lost dispey , flasher and fly. That hurts. :@ I see that torpedo brand makes a new tip is there anybody out there with any experience with these or any other brand and is it possible to remove a tip on the poles with the roller guides already attached. Your feedback is appreciated.

  6. I have experience with both Okuma Reels and Bretts on the bay. They are both great. I found Brett's on ebay when I first started buying gear for trolling. Great prices and good customer service. There business has grown greatly since their humble ebay on days. As far as OKuma I started with the Cabelas reels which are the Okuma Strata reels private labeled for Cabelas which I used for the the first few seasons without fail, then added some Magda, Convectors and a few Catalinas. I have never had a problem with any of them. The pricing allowed me to grow my inventory and have a rod and reel to cover anything from down rigging, to lead core, Dipseys braid and wire as well as a few copper set ups. I have fished with other brands and I found the tekotas to be real nice, but just couldn't afford to have as many combos as I do with the Okuma Reels. For the money they are just flat out hard to beat.

  7. Like the others said. Call Curt. He's a great guy to talk to and genuinely concerned if you have an issue with your DR. I talked to him 3 or 4 times last year when I started losing signal. Long story short I sen my probe in at the end of the season. We never could pin point what the reason was after various trouble shooting options. I got a brand new replacement probe in the mail today. They stand behind their products.

  8. I use Spro swivels. That will work. None of my fishing Buds use FF line. I just thought I'd give it a shot and put my original gear that i started worth back into use again. Never had a problem with my 320's just can't hold a lot of line and almost got spooled a few times, so they have been relegated to a back up role or in this case Stacker rods. Thanks for the info.

  9. Gambler,

I am looking to spool up my Penn 320's which I usually run lighter line on since they don't hold as much as my convector 45s that I with 30lb big game. I would like to run the Penns with 20lb test as stackers but with the flea I hardly use them in king season anymore.

  10. I usually run 30lb big game line in the summer due to the fleas. Does anyone use 20lb flea flicker? I would like to run some of my lighter gear for steel head but wondering if the flea flicker line will work. Also wondering if it takes up more spool capacity since the line is shaped differently than mono? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
