  1. I will be usuing my slide diver set ups for the first time this weekend. I have two Okuma Catalinas spooled with 300yds of 50lb power pro and 30 yds of 25lb big game mono. Should I tie a barrel swivel off at the end and put a few feet of flourocarbon leader? Should I use a bead before the barrel swivel? I have used Dipseys on wire line many times but it seems that I hear the ligh bite account for alot of fish before the fleas set in. I'm looking forward to cashing in on some of that action this year.

The other question I have is what is the ratio on braid vs. wire. I know it's almot 3 to 1 with wire. What kind of numbers are we talking with braid? As always I appreciate the feedback.

  2. Email the maunfacturers. Go online and search them out. You'd be suprised. I have some shirt, hats and decals on theie way to me becuase I just asked because I use their products. They were very nice about it. Also some of the tacke shops sell sticker etc for some of the brands they sell. Free is better if you can get it. Good luck to you.

Limped into town Thursday night with an overheating truck. Spent most of the day getting the boat ready for the season and changing the thermostat on the truck. Turns out it was my Water pump and had to spend Saturday morning looking for a Mechanic between Mexico and Pulaski that could take care of it on the spot. A big thanks to Ivans. He did great work at a fair price and I was able to make it home today.

The bad part was my daughter and her boyfriend were up with me and both have never fished Lake Onatrio before. My daughter hasn't fished since whe was about 11 yrs old. They were excited and could wait to get out and fish and we only had about 2 hours to do so. We motored up to the mouth of the Salmon river and trolled south to the mouth of the Little Salmon between 8 and 10 FOW and could not find any decent temp. The highest was 51 degrees. There were only two other boats out fishing. I had a feeling the fish might be shut down. We tried rapalas and smithwicks off the OSP boards and various spoons off the riggers. To try and change our luck we started to troll west and into deeper water when my daughter says" the rod just went up" forgetting they were new I told them to grab it and no one was home by that time. Then about 10 minutes later, the rigger rod fires again in about 30 FOW temp was around 48 degrees. My daughter was hooked into her first Brown Trout ever. Not a monster by any means but a trophy to her. She landed it weighing it at 6.5 lbs and measuring 24". Take notice to the marks on it side in the cooler shot. I was not sure if that was from a lamprey maybe when it was smaller or what it could be. Take a look and let me know what you guys think may be the cause of the discoloration.

  4. I plan on trying out 2 of my new set ups this weekend. I have two new reels spooled with 300 yds of power pro and want to put between 50 & 75 yds of mono so I can run the of mu OSP boards. What knot do you recommend? Also I heard there might be issues with keeping the clips clamped onto the Power pro because of the smaller diameter. If that is the case what do you do to prevent if from coming off? I appreciate the feed back.

  5. A friend of mine hear got a tip from a fellow boater that using Dow scrubbing bubbles like you use in your bathroom will remove and scum lines or stains on your boat? I am afraid it may remove more than that. Has anyone tried this and does it work? Any damage to the boats finish from using it. Please let me know. Thanks.

  6. My father, son and I went out today for the Northern Pa. trout opener. Weather forecast was cool and over cast with some wind gusts projected. We didn't expect much action but ended up all limiting out in under 45 minutes on brookies. Plus we through some smaller ones back also. We also did a number on the panfish at a friends pond a few weeks ago. It's been a good start to the season for us. Now we are looking forward to next week when put the boat in for the season. I can't wait to get back in the boat and out on the big water and catching some big fish.

  7. Capt. V,

Ironically I came across them by winning a bid on ebay that was for steelhead spoons and they were mostly Fuzzy bear spoons and a few Dream weavers. That was my first exposure to them. I hope they keep making those FB style spoons. They are an odd shape compared to DW and Stinger spoons and I found out quickly they do produce fish.

  8. Thanks for the replies. I'll check out the new cable from Walker online maybe. If I can't find it tbro's post above which was very informative and I still have the cable from last year which is still in great shape.

  9. My depth raider worked really well the first year rarely losing the signal. Last year the coating on the cable got chewed up. Used the liquid electrical tape and as the season wore on I eventually replaced it with new cable. The unit never worked as good as it did the first year. It would lose signal at just barely 100 feet down and sometimes even less. I tried the wet cloth on the antenna and cable and even gum that all got stuck on the cable. Not sure what else to do. Someone mentioned to me drilling a terminator release and I would be able to remove the probe and he also found it to be a better connection because the exposed wire is wrapped around the bolt. Has anyone done this before and or have a diagram or another suggestion? I'd like to take care of it before I start fishing this season. I appreciate the feedback.

  10. Hi Tech lures. I picked up a few of those from his booth at the eastern sportsmans show in Harrisburg. They had some good deals on spoons. I have their business card if you want the contact info. A consistant producer for me on steel head last year was a fuzzy bear buffalo bill which is somehow affiliated with Dream weaver. It's chatruese on on side and reddish orange on the other. I also have it in the smaller LD size offered by Dream weaver. Also had good luck with the DW SS Steelie Dan and Mi. Stinger pink sunset.

  11. I have the Pa. opener this weekend. I have to look forward to catching 7" stocked brookies this Saturday. Yipee! but it's better than the alternative of not fishing at all and I do get time to fish with my father who I don't fish with all that often. I am trying to get him in my boat up on Lake O. I would like to see him hook into a big one. He's in his 70's and can't take the bumps too well because of his back. Hopefully he'll be up with me on a calm day. Thanks for your replies guys.

  12. It looks like I will be putting the boat in this weekend for the season on the little salmon river (weather permitting). I have been fishing Lake O for about 15 years, but I have never fished this early. I am usually up towards the end of May

My main goal is to wash and wax the boat prior to putting it in for the season. But I am hoping to get out for a few hours on Sunday morning.

What tactics and presentations would you guys reccomend?

  13. I have the Cabela's 10'6" combo with the largest Cabela's brand reel. I have used it with the 7 strand stainless and been pretty productive over the past three season that I used it. I am happy with the performance of the gear and it seems like you catch more off the dispeys late morning into the afternoon (IMO). What Jolly II said about violent hits is very true. I attached a pic of a brand new snubber snapped off from a hit last season. We had just bought it brand new that day from Woody's tackle shop. When the fish hit you heard the Whack and the the screaming of the line off the reel. My 17 year old son barely got the rod out of the holder because it was doubled over. The line went slack and the fish broke off the flasher and fly. Just had the broken snubber left dangling at the end of the line.

It was the one that got away. Woody's was nice enough to replace the snubber at no charge when I stopped back to show them. They were surprised but not shocked.

  14. The 10' 6" rods are fine and it seems to get the lines out away from the boat. The thing I don't like about them is that they are just too darn big. I have a 22' 1/2" boat and they are tough to move around with. I am always banging into things with them fighting a fish or trying to store them in the cuddy. I have not used the LB slide divers yet since I just bought the combos for them this year. I did hear alot of chatter over the radio with people doing well on them. I figured I had to add some to my arsenal.

  15. Thanks for posting that L&M. I believe the beach was closed last year at Selkirk as well. That's not too bad for me as long as we can camp their. It's really a shame for all those that want to swim there though. Plus alot of those other parks and historical sites not being open. Just a damn shame. We are facing a similair crisis down here in Pa. I think the county I live in was listed as one of the most corrupt in the country and we even made the news an 20/20. We were also fortunate to see alot of these people recently resign and also plead guilty to numerous charges for corruption, bribery etc. It's about time we start cleaning house with some of these corrupt politicians.

  16. I heard a disturbing rumor the other day when I called up to my Marina and they said that Selkirk Shores among others may not be open tbis year due to a budget crisis. How true is this? I know that last year they cut down on their personnel and quit maintaining the beach front, but a complete shutdown would kill my fishing season. I spend close to 30 days a season camping at Selkirk. You can't beat the price or the location. The amount of money they must pull in from May to Oct. Ijust can't see how they would make a decision like that.
