  1. Thanks for the feedback guys.

The eventful launching referred due to was a wadered foot hitting the gas pedal instead of the brake while in reverse :whew: "THE OTHER WAY"

Only issues observed were 1) the splashing caused the cooper reel mounted in the back holder to get wet/freeze and 2) trying to figure out if the lilboat was actually leaking.

After that it was smooth sailing especially after it got a bit warmer.

Hope to get out again soon.

    Tight lines.

  2. I've been out to camp on Cross lake last 2 Fridays to check on things and water is way up, as expected with the winter being as it was. Cross Lake was still iced up Friday, which may help with waves, but there sure is a lot of H2O in the system now.

A neighbors swim platform stored in his lawn is now about 6 camps down near us.

Hope all this H2O makes it to the Big O uneventfully.

  3. Yup all gone and yes the lake is tooooo hi for this time of year. I had to rescue my neighbors jet ski yesterday as it had floated off the lift and was headed to Ithaca.

we get a big blow and folks are going to have damage. Its about 8 inches above summer level.

    RR

The water levels are way up. The links below have info on the CNY water management.

Ya may have to navigate for specific info.

  4. We caught one little rainbow (~16") on a blue and silver stickbait on Sunday and tried some presentations (spinny/fiy and/or spoons off the wire dipsy and copper) for a Lilboat grand slam. Never sniffed a laker but we had fun trying.

Thanks for the post. Seneca has a nice variety of fish.

  5. Managed to launch Lilboat with nephew Dave at the Clute park ramp about 1/4 to 7.

After a somewhat eventful launch off the trailer, :sweating: took the first troll down to the salt plant and hit 2 decent browns and 1 LL on the stickbaits and spoons.

Hit a quality LL before the plant, but busted the nephews line at the boat on a nice jump ;(

Lots of boat traffic and a slow pic on the return troll south helped make deciding to take a peak at the mud line troll on the east side.

We hit a couple quality fish during our east side troll down and back by the painted cliffs.

Dave caught his personal best LL and I had fun with a decent one on a lildiipsy

Saw some other nets move as well but not nearly the traffic as on the west.

Water was somewhat warmer/stained on the east.

Nice day to be fishing on Seneca

  6. This winter within an hour I lost a couple good stick baits, one with a fish hooked to it (found out later a ceramic rod guide missing) and wore out a Penn (worm gear) when fishing leadcore (in 15 degree weather) on another trip. :(

Glad you got out, got fish and thanks for the report.

    Its just starting......

  7. RR hope your dock and everyone else's stays where they belong !!!!!

I think someone may be missing a canoe as we saw an aluminum canoe with a red interior that looked like it was washed up and about 1/2 full of water about mile south of T-Falls on the west side. :( If someone knows the owner they may want to let them know so they can take care of it.

  8. good tips

    As for.....

do you have any tips for trouble free fishing with copper?
No such thing as "TROUBLE FREE fishing with copper".

Cap'n Buffa once explained to me when I asked him after one of his seminars at Bass Pro Shop, "What does Fishing, Math and Chess have in common?"

Tony says, "They're all about Problem Solving".

(Tony is a math prof at the local college and also plays competitive chess)

    As for a tip.

Be ready when reeling in a fish with some spunk left, just when the copper all comes out of the water, as the tension changes quite a bit,

I lost some fish at this point when I first used copper, and hopefully have a chance to lose some more.

You'll get the feel of it with practice.

  9. Launched Lilboat with RJ and Docktorwiz at T-Falls about 1/2 hr after first light and saw no other trailers at the lot.

Lake was way up and had to keep the rods down to fit under the Lilbridge :o

Started with a troll thru the mud plume from the T-creek with nothing wanting our offerings eventhough we marked some good stuff.

Made our way south and picked at some nice LLs along the way to Crowbar pt.

Highlites were: Docktorwiz'z fight with one LL almost making a high jump over the rigger rod.

Me fighting a nice one with the noodle rod on a streamer. :whew:

And RJ landing the biggest one.

A lot of sticks and leaves in spots until the breeze changed and blew the junk out.

Saw quite a few boats out when we came in about mid day.

Marked a lot of fish but most had lockjaw. Some nice fish were landed but no doubles.

Nice day to be out fishing with the friends again.

  10. Since this thread is going wherever ...... decided to post a quote from an e-mail received recently from a good friend

    Gubmint and How Gubmint Works

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of

a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So

they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without

instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two

people, one person to write the instructions and one person to do time

    studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the

tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and

hired two people, one to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So they

created two positions, a time keeper and a payroll officer, then hired

    two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?"

So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an

Administrative Officer, an Assistant Administrative Officer, and a

    Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one

year, and we are $918,000 over budget. We must cut back." So they

    laid off the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let that sink in. Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the

DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY..... during the Carter Administration?

Anybody? Anything? No? Didn't think so!

Bottom line: We've spent several hundred billion dollars in support

of an agency...the reason for which not one person who reads this can

    remember!

Ready?? It was very simple . . . and, at the time, everybody thought

    it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977 TO LESSEN OUR

DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL. Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND, NOW, IT'S 2010 -- 33 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS

"NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000

FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES, AND

LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE! THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND

    SAY, "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?"

A little over 33 years ago, 30% of our oil consumption was foreign

imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports. Ah,

yes -- the good old Federal bureaucracy!!

NOW, WE HAVE TURNED THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO

INDUSTRY OVER TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

    Hello!! Anybody Home?

Another country heard from. Lets go fishin

  11. NICE  LL is a beauty.

    As for our planned

Heading out soon and hope to get out before the next shot of winter weather.

We headed out alright ...... for breakfast and hunting movies after checking forecast at 5:45. Drive home would've been tough.

Thanks for the pic and post

  12. Been following some of the Marcellus gas play recently.... (Can't go fishing as much as desired)

Came across this recently. Its a public meeting/presentation Q&A relating to a proposed Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) storage facility at the salt plant couple miles up on the west side we have trolled by.

    http://shaleshockmedia.org/2011/02/06/1-tom-shelley-peter-mantius-storing-liquefied-petroleum-gas/

Gotta be done right if at all.

    Makes windmills look like windmills.

    Wonder what others think/know?
