  1. Good evening of fishing last night. Found some bigger landlocked salmon out deep 65 ft down over 550 f.o.w. largest was around 3 lbs. All taken on mixed veggies spoon again.  A curiosity - all the fish I've caught in the past  three  days have been on a north troll. Not so much as a single  release on a southward troll. Any theories?

  2. Day 1
Slow out of bed this am. Some jerk named Evan Williams and his friend Jack Daniels kept me up way too late. Focused on land locks to day and cane up with a big nothing. Saw lots of bait balls in 160-175 f.o.w. and quite a few dead alewives floating on the surface. Not sure what that’s all about. Dredging the bottom for lakers tomorrow.

  3. Launched out of Severne around 7:30 a.m and fished until 3 p.m..  We went 4 for 5 on lakers.  Biggest fish was 5.5 lbs. Most were taken on a  wire dipsy #2 setting with flasher  and white fly combo set back 200'.  Picked up a small landlocked salmon about 20" down over 170 FOW. Said hello and tossed him back.   Pretty slow but compared to how I usually do on Seneca, I'll take it! On another note - I lost some gear and need to re-stock, Does anyone know of any local businesses (not big box stores) that carry down rigger releases, dipsy divers, cannon balls etc?  I want to keep my $$ local but haven't been able to find  anyone who has this stuff

  4. In my experience it really depends on where you are fishing out of.   Anything over 15  mph will create whitecaps.  A 15  mph wind straight form  the south can create monster waves in Geneva, and a 15 mph north wind does the same for the south end.  That same wind form the east or west - you could still fish close to the lee shore - you'll get bounced around a little but too bad in a 17 1/2 ft aluminum boat.  Under 10  mph from any direction you should be fine.  Seneca can serve up some misery when strong cold fronts pass through., especially if your a few miles out - the waves can come up quick and make for a long wet ride - in my younger years I found out the hard way.  Good luck and tight lines!

  5. Went out of Watkins Glen and  we got on the lake around 10 a.m., hoping the  south wind wasn't going to be as bad as it was.  One mile out the lake was full of sheep so i went on a joy ride and practiced my seamanship for a while on the white caps and after a few hours the wind finally settled down enough to drag a few lines close to shore.  Went 1 for 3 on landlocked salmon.  All small fish, nothing picture worthy.. Nice to have a day off and get out on the water after a long winter.

  6. Thanks for the info and the heads up.  Please forgive my ignorance and maybe you can help me understand this - but why would naming a popular creek with public fishing rights, supported by public dollars be flag worthy and any different than naming a Finger Lake, public launch, specific cove etc?  I certainly am not trying offend any one or be intentionally obtuse but I don't get it.  I checked out the registration terms especially sections 7&8  on content posted and content/activity prohibited and couldn't really find anything.  If naming a creek or tributary is some against some unwritten rule or violation of etiquette I was unaware of then I sincerely apologize and please let me know so I don't inadvertently offend or step on anyone's toes- that's not what I'm about.

  7. Just wondering if anyone knows what kind of shape Catherine Creek is in?  I hikes a couple of miles of Catherine last fall and it was still quite a mess from the past  summers' flooding. Most of the traditional holes were almost completely  filled in with sediment.  With a relatively dry winter I would imagine that relatively little sediment was flushed out or new holes created.

  8. Hello.  I  accidentally left my 4.5 ft  Gorilla step ladder at the Penn Yann launch Friday night.  If any one that used that launch Friday night or Sat a.m. found it  and decided to do the right thing and keep an eye on it until the owner could step forward then I thank you and would really like it back. It was not cheap.  Please send me a pm. Thanks for helping me out.  On another note, we went 3 for 5 on lakers.  Nothing huge but good enough for the smoker.

  9. Hello all. I'm somewhat new to salmon fishing and have only fished out of Sodus point a dozen times.  Oak orchard and Oswego are only 20 min further away from my home.  So here is the question - is the fishing out of Oak Orchard or Oswego considerably better than fishing out of Sodus to warrant the extra 20 min of towing? Thanks for any info and tight lines to all
