  1. Gambler only one pond? that was like 30 year's ago used to be a ton of small bass back than I would ride my bike there. When they expanded it they partially drained it heard a rumour that it killed off the fish back than I didn't know any better so I never went back always wondered if was any good again. 2. either clear or green in most cases. sometimes its nice to have a couple differnt colors makes it easier to un tangle
  3. I would use whichever was better for the depth I wanted to fish I like the shorter rod if I'm only fishing one diver I have 10.5 foot ugly sticks when I want to run two on a side. If I want the divers higher I'll use a #4 Chinook if I want them deeper I'll use a number 5 Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. for my inside (shorter rod) divers i use diawa wilderness 8'6" meadium heavy rods model WDDR862MHR not specifically called out as diver rods but i use them with #5 chinook divers and just replaced the tips with twilli tips. they are some of my favorte rods to hit a king on. very budget friendly way to start out and figure out your exact preferences before dropping tons of money on gear.
  5. I have surge breaks on mine no electric bypass I have to use the lock out tab to reverse anywhere other than a steep launch the break away cable doesn't have to break it just has to pull out if you look there is a random crimp on the cable that crimp should be within the toung it's not which means you pulled the break the fact that it's not locked up on a new trailer is actually very scary I would have a dealer look at it that could be borderline faulty equipment Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. I just sold mine this spring was in need of a restoration the boat served me well but some physical limitations make that type of work un realistic for me you will like that commander they are very nice boats. I got dozens of response s on the seanymph so yours should sell quick Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Would love to see a kiosk put in so it's possible to get a launch pass any time and not have to go out of the way Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Weighted steel is used as an alternative to copper it is more user friendly in some ways especially if you just starting out on junk lines 7 strAnd and 19 strand are more of a braid alternative usually used on dipsey rods Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Guides will be fine use a twilli tip. If you use 19 strand you don't even need the twilli but it's still a good idea. If the rod has a heavy enough power it will be fine I use a diawa wilderness medium heavy for my inside (shorter) divers I use the 8.5 foot rods they work surprisingly well Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Not defending a bad mechanic but engine technology has come a long way. A 15 year vetern learned on engines from the late 90s and beyond so older stuff is not what there used to there is good money in working for dealers which is lots of work on newer engines and certifications on specific brands there is none of that around for Johnson now marine mechanics are in demand and there are not a lot so they can be very picky and charge a ton for labor it is upsetting but as long as they are up front I can respect that. Taking the work than not doing the repair is BS though and charging for an unfixed issue well just typing that sets off anger issues Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. The rougher feeling ride is a compromise for more cockpit space the farther forward the helm is the more it bounces at speed the smoothest part of the boat is the stern boats made to fish solo a lot or fished from the driver's seat have the helm way rearward lund has some pro v models where you can touch the transom from the helm if your doing a lot of big water trolling with two or three people the commander is a great model and if it's that rough go slower lake o has a lot of days where it's better to be paitent and slower on the way in and out and all that dance floor can make the fishing comfortable how you intend to use the boat makes a big difference in the models that work well and there is definitely a place for some of the West coast style aluminum big water trollers on the great lakes crestliner also makes the authority which is pricy but has some extra amenities and was also on my list but probably not in my budget My last boat was a sea nymph 196 great lakes special so I have some appreciation of where your coming from I loved my seanymph and know the commander felt right Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. If your mostly trolling the under power is less of a problem that said the boat itself is a wonderful platform especially if you do a lot of trolling it's very well built to fish out of the back and was on my short list when I was shopping this past spring the right one just didn't come up but if it had I would have jumped on it even with a 90 hp can always work it hard a couple years and save up for a repower Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Dont run two spin drs/attractors on one side they are more likely to wander especially on turns so 2 on one side increase likely hood of a tangle I run an 8.5' inside and a 10' outside the longer rod also has less flex helps keeps things separated I have both rod holders in an 18 inch track. These days most of my tangles are caused by fish near the back of boat deciding to do a lap around them Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. We had to reschedule our trip for conditions I've been looking forward to it for months gotta wait 2 more weeks now Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. We were supposed to be there Monday but had to reschedule to next week we did the trip last year and it was a blast hopeing for good conditions it feels good to be on a boat in Jan the Niagara is a truly worthwhile expeience Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. do you run big boards off that lund or do you use inlines. that is the next step of rigging for my new to me boat this winter and I keep going back and forth. i have a couple inlines that i have mixed feelings about but hate trying to store big boards on a smaller boat.
  17. 91 is 30 year's old I had an 88 last spring the mechanic said he didn't work on anything older than 95 he had more work than he could handle so just wasn't interested it sucked but at least he was honest about it I think with Johnson s that is going to be more and more common if your up to doing your own work than that is the way to go Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. I used fender washers on my last boat on everything the mountings always did fine even ran a rod holder into the dock snapped the holder and dented the piling but the mount was solid Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Depends on how is the gunnel made looks like sawdust in the one pic so is it a wood backed aluminum? Or just hollow I like a bigger washer or a backing plate but if it's good stainless bolts the track will hold anything the side of the boat will hold Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Some additional data to consider that affects conditions. Daily temperature total rainfall and when inflow and outflow volumes and there ratio to each other also I think you have to start back in March as spring Conditions lead to the starting conditions for the June timeline. 21. Thanks for the replies. I will look at the sheridan launch I am okay with a pay launch as long as it has parking and is reasonably safe to leave a trailer in.
  22. looking to plan out the final trip of the year before putting the boat to bed. like to try different things this time of year. Looking at the upper niagra. Looking for some advice on which launch to use. I have fishef small boat harbor but would like to try downstream more in the grand island area. would rather not have to go on the island but will if needed. boat is an 18 foot alluminum. thank you in advance
  23. Weather conditions this year set things u different for us we did not do well on our traditional way points and had to search out new spots fishing was harder overall but life conditions has us fishing sodus area more this year last two years were more sandy area. We had more consistent action than many we talked to but overall fewer fish and smaller kings but more and bigger stealhead. We lost most of spring when the boat died but turned out a blessing I ended up with a boat I never thought I would end up with and it's a pleasure to fish out of. Key lesson this year if it's not working g change it up and do the be afraid to go to very different areas if your normal ones are not set up Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Good to here I will have to put it on the list of options for the last two trips I do miss that lake Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Wondering if anyone has been seeing any pike on Seneca used to spend some late season trips chasing them in the bays sheltered. From the wind. Have really gotten away from Seneca the last several years but have a lot of good memories thinking about a nostalgia trip before the boat goes asleep for winter don't really wanna trout and salmon troll I get my fill of that all Summer I know not a lot of people target them there but wondering if they are struggling as much as as the trout Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
