  1. I am out a lot out of Oswego but I work a swing shift so sometimes I am out during the weekdays and other times I am out on the weekends I would be more than happy to contact you. I was out yesterday fishing 220-290 fow and got 2 kings in the boat, I had three on and good temps were aprox. 65-75 feet down. It's a little tough right now they seem to be scattered. It will pick up soon as they begin to stage.

  2. I would go with at least 13lb weights to reduce blowback at that depth. I used to use 8lb balls but it was tough to guess where my flashers and spoons were. Do yourself a favor and get the torpedo weights. Either 13 or 15 lb. Some times there can be strong underwater current and the torpedo weights track very true.

  3. I was planning a three day trolling trip in Oswego next week, (finally got some time off from work), and I have not been out in several weeks I was just wondering if anyone new how the bite has been and what depth. Normally I have a lot of time in by this time of year but I have been working some major OT this summer and have not had much time to fish, any info would be greatly appreciated. I am renting a slip next week in wrights landing.

  4. I'm not sure what the propper name for it is, but does anyone know where to get new cockpit walls/zipper doors made up. I have a hard top it's the one that hangs straight down to the floor with the windows and zipper door. Mine is starting to get dry rotted. I was looking for some place near the oswego county area.

  5. I trolled all day yeasterday the 5th and had a few issues with dipsy's as well, I had some major tangles with my leader lines after the dipsy getting wrapped all around the dipsys. I suspect that with the under water currents when turning were messing with everything down deep. I forgot my temp probe yesterday but I know that there were some strong currents coming from the west with the wind that we have had. I can't think of any other reason for the tangles, I usual get a few every now and then but yesterday was like every couple hours.

  6. Was your boat speed too fast? How fast were you going? You also may have been in some fast underwater currents. As long as they are tight they should not pop off. If the water was rough it might have also been the boat bouncing that did it. Just sounds like they were not tight enough.

  7. Hey Bluewater - what would you say we need to take off the dipsey charts if we are using steel or copper line. Should I cut 10 - 20% back off what the chart recommends?

I am just getting in to the wire game, I was using mono up untill 2 years ago so I can't really give you specifics on that one. All I can tell you is last week I had my dipsys (actually I use walker deeper divers, same basic thing) out 230 ish and I was dragging bottom at 100 fow, using mono with that length I might have got 60-70 feet deep maybe. Nothing like wire though, you feel everything and it is much easier to get deep with less line out. Not too mention it is EXTREMELY hard to release the clip on a dipsy with mono, way too much stretch (sorry not too get off topic, just love that wire).

  8. The best you can do is if you have a good graph, set up where the best concentration of fish are that you are seeing, sometimes you can see the thermocline on your graph and it may look like a line across your screen. When all else fails use this site for it's intended purpose to help people catch more fish and interact with other fisherman. You can always count on up to date reports every day.

  9. I think your speed is your problem as well. 2.7 or less is about the good target speed. Having a good temp and speed probe off a rigger weight will be a great help as well so you can tell when to speed up or slow down. I would try a amish outfitter trolling bag or 2 for your boat or the other tips suggested above. Try and put your presentations slightly above the fish. Last year my best speed was 2.3

  10. I am looking to buy a copper rod and reel set-up I was just wondering if anyone could help with sizes and makes for the reel and what rods would work. I have never ran copper yet but I want to add to my arsenal. Do you just run them straight with no weights or dipsy?
