A buddy of mine years back used a 2x10 extended about a foot on each side where Oar locks are. Put rod holders on it as well as small cannon riggers. Ran 4 rods easy. 2 down & 2 12'rods for flatlines for good spread.Front guy could run rods so back guy could concentrate on steering. Also had his depthfinder mounted under board so he could see it. Was a SAFE way for small craft & did real well as he could get in very shallow for browns.Got to use your common sence in a small boat.

And I'm sure looking at your crew Stinger, you do a good job of keeping your hands to yourself as well.

That's the democratic system off Gov & how it works, LL . Unfortunatly you cast your vote & are along for the ride till the next vote unless you want to write letters or make calls to deaf ears. Gas prices will drop when speculators buying futures feel they have topped out, sell off , reap the profits, & crude prices drop. .Till the next turmoil/disaster. When the sheep will be fleeced again. Count on it.

Remember the Carter years, gas lines, odd /even and shortages created by OPEC to drive up prices? Then came Reagan. Boy ,we could use a guy like that now.

Being the cheapskate I am ,I use modified Drywall buckets. Have a bent trolling plate on the wall in my barn .Hated it. And yes, in rough water I find it holds the boat more stable in the water, don't get that side to side rock as much. Tie midship to be ahead of outdowns& out of way for fishlanding. Buckets are a good alternative to save a few bucks if you want to try it. Been using for many years.

How is that a buch of crap? Speculators are the ones who are driving the price up on oil. Not supply & demand.The economy started going in the toilet right around the Enron days ,when faulty bookeeping was found in many companies to overinflate the stock prices during Clinton admin. Remember? It just took till Oct of 08 to hit the fan& for most to realize it because of years of smoke & mirrors.If we had a growing economy & paychecks& strong dollar, the addl gas price would not be so hard to swallow.

On they way home I heard comments from a Raymond James investment advisor say the EXACT same thing & smiled. Then I walk in & read this.

Americans do have to take some responsiblity.How many guy out there with every toy ( Big boat& house , snomobile, wheeler, Hummer) could stay afloat for 1 year of even 6 or 3months without the help of the gov or family if they lost their paycheck tommorow on savings ?My guess would be not many. When they don't we all pay. Just like being on that Ball team. One or two guys screw up ,we all loose.

I didnt here to much bellyacheing when the stockmarket was flying high, money was free , & the economy was flying. Greenspan himself admitted that he & others knew that it would not last & what could happen . Then said, " But no one wanted to be the one to make it stop".A lot of us knew it was wrong also ,but said little.

Americans spend to much,save little & want cheap stuff. Greedy corperate heads want high profits & cheap labor & move good paying jobs overseas. Lots of money goes out of the country & not much back in, like raiding your bank account , we were rich ,now broke& less influential.Dollar devalues. Americans still spend to much, save little & want cheap stuff & figure they are entitiled to it.To get elected polititians borrow from China& give it to them to keep them happy. Worldwide turmoil & or disaster. Investors,not supply & demand, drive up price of oil for their profit. 500 clams.

Geitners a tool but don't put all of the blame on him, cause there's plenty to go around. This train wreck has been coming for some time,he & his boss just added to it . Problem with our cuurency being super strong is other countries can't afford to do buisness with us. More imports than exports.All those manufacturing jobs that went overseas. Don't worry, I'm sure the price will drop in a few months somewhat. Don't you guys see a pattern here? Everytime there is some sort of turmoil or disaster the price goes up . Mega investors aroung the globe throw huge amounts of money in to inflate the price. We spend tons more money for gas . Then when the time is right, the investors sell, pull their profit of bazillions of dollars, and the price drops. Consumers get comfortable again, buy big gas guzzling cars, trucks & boats , homes, save a few bucks. Then comes the next turmoil or disaster, and when the timing is right they invest again,price goes up , & milk us some more& it's all good. Why is that oil in the ground worth so much more today than it was 2 months ago? There is no shortage, so why? Unfortunatly , with a capitalistic society,which I want, this is part of it.

I have an 86 21' Trophy w/ a 305 OMC corba & it needs all of it IMO. At aprox 3500 hrs I rebuilt the engine,$2800. Shortly thereafter ,the lower unit $ 3300. Great fishing boat I still have. Invest in a power prop if you get. Up on plane easier w/ load, better control in rough sea & higher Rpm for oil pressure & alternator at trolling, although you will loose a little top end , good tradeoff IMO. . Good Luck. BOAT = Bust out another thousand, now just for gas.

It's speculation, just like last time. A lot of guys getting rich manipulating the price. There is no shortage,never was one. Has nothing to do with supply & demand.

Gas at 5.75 ? Less guys traveling up to the big pond. I figure I use about 30 gals min to & from & fishing for a day .So what use to cost less than 60 will now be 160 or more . Everything else goes up also. You want lack of participation , you got it. But the pending legislation I'm quite sure will change that.

Down in FLA there are gas stations & marinas that have non-ethenol pumps for recreation use. Is that available up here? My neph also said to make sure I get a good filter/seperator to catch small white particles created by eth before it gets to carb.His mechanic freind said he is making a good living fixing that. Also said to change ALL hoses that are older because it will eat them up. Merc rep also recomends the Staron additive .Also said to run the Merc Quick clean once in a while to decarbon the rings so that they seal better to the eggshape cylinder walls as they become broken in for better compresion& performance.

Saw a solar field down in FLA by the SW FLA airport in FT. Myers last week .Couple acres or so. Might be a way out. But Sun dosn't shine much up here some days. What's the output on solar panels ?

I like the idea of a few somewhere as an experimental trial & when all bugs are out ,see what happens. Not ready yet for full scale production & deployment. Haste makes waste ,or full political pockets.

I saw this post the morn I left for FLA & was going to post but held back. Thought about it for a while on the long ride down . The first part of the fishing puzzle is Location . if you aint over fish, you won't catch them. Equip, speed , depth, lures etc mean nothing if no fish are present.

Guys come on here to get info. I feel most are legit . Albiet some are kind of "Green "on both their knowledge & attitudes. Redneck line was out of line & appology needed.

To perpetuate Fishing in general, it is the duty of the veterans on here & in general to give this info & pass on their expertise so to speek.Maybe at least the lake, not specifics . That may come at a price to see guys finding your local honey hole.Some would probably anyway.

It amazes me that on the trib site that we wont give smal water names so that scumbags won't go there & catch all the fish. So that we can go down their & catch all the fish. Apply same logic here. 1 in 100 is a litle high . I would say it's more the other way on C&R.

While we give these guys this info , so that we teach them the basic fundementals ( theres that word)to be succesfull, we can also shape their fishing philophy of C&R,ethics,etiquite , etc.

Jolly II , Many years ago I fashoned an add a line release from one of your fathers releases. I sent him a pictuter of 2 lakers on the same rod. That happened a few times with that setup. I still use them . I like the adjustable tension feature.

Went to Fair haven St prk . for about 20 years in a row bass fishing opening day weekend . They have docks but after a few years I found it way easier to throw it back on the trailer & go back to the campsite.Didn't have to walk & could clean up & restock beer cooler easier& didn't have to worry about it. Great campsite.

I know feeling well ,Went over to my Bro's today. Walked into the Barn & just had to climb up into the boat. Leaving for FLA Fri & when I get back............ it won't be long. Early Spring?

My first boat was a 17' wood boat with a 1970 55 Johnson on it. Motor ran great but wood needed constant upkeep. Motor started to act up while fishing. Went through coils every few trips. Would get it running , get exited about going on the weekend, get out there , & have motor troubles. Then the frustration would set in . Spend the money you are going to put into it & buy somthing newer you can easily get parts for.There is a reason the mechanic chucled at you. LO is a very unforgiving place.

Best thing I did was to install a transducer mounting plate. Once it's on , if you change sonars & transducers,no new holes . Bought it at Elams( Captains Cove now). 15 bucks or so. Mine has adjustable mounting screws for transducer.works great.

Downriggers up untill this year were my only Deepwater approach for most part. To be consistantly productive with them , I had to master how to use them . Many ,many days, the only way I could get them to go was to constantly turn every which way.& vary setup & leads. Was easy to do , till I deployed Dipseys. Could not turn nearly as sharp to draw hits, but the dipsy would work. Very tough thing to get all methods to work in harmony together cosistantly. The best Captains have a hard time with it consistantly. listen to radio& hear " Can't get a rigger to go , only dipsies" or vice versa.

Been thinking about Jimski's approach. He has abandoned the rigger & gone all in with planer/ weight systems. Bet he has every diver size -color -brand out there. Developed a gameplan , mastered it, and executes it w/ confidence & success. Great job. I like your thinking & may copy it some.

I also belive that extreme precision of speed is less & less important the farther from the boat .Wonder how you judge down speed& speed in general.
