  2. October is a little early. I'd definitely wait till Nov. I hunt a lot also but late Nov. and Dec. are the time for big eyes in Quinte so I forgo some hunting for those giant fish. Fortunately I'm retired so tend to hunt or fish daily. We go until ice prevents launching Then I turn to late season diver duck hunting.

  3. Sounds like you had a good week. Lots of eyes available once you master a technique. I live up here and get out a few mornings a week. I like early morning best as I'm off the water by the time boat traffic picks up. You're right about the fish, they are fat and that size is great for the table. I got three early this morning trolling in shallower water 20-30'.

I go to jigging after the sun gets bright.

SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Slow steady pick. Not much bait marked and not a lot of fish on the graph but we picked away with riggers and sliders and dipsies. Interestingly we caught a double on a single rod, one off rigger and one on slidder. Also had a fish hit two of our spoons on two different rods and when netted had both spoons in it's mouth. Go figure.

  5. I make my own bottom bouncing weights and believe they are around 12 ounces or more. I use heavy gear and heavy braid and a wire leader above the weight to avoid zebra mussel cut off. Still get hung up and cut off and it's not the most enjoyable fishing method but it can be effective. Last two morning were tough but did manage one eye yesterday. I believe its somewhat similar to how they fish the Detroit river.

  6. They definitely like it where deep water moves up over and around shoals and the head and side of islands where the current is running. It makes for an interesting troll into the current and often you are barely making headway but current keeps cranks working. Almost like hotshotting for steelhead. They move up into shallower water at night (8-20 fow) and may drop deep (30 to over 80) which makes trolling very difficult so jigs and jigging spoons work better or you can try downriggers or very heavy weights. The tough part is you generally have small target areas and need to know the river to fish at night.
