  1. Looking forward to coming down to seneca soon for perch.have they started yet?I heard last fall was great through the whole winter to. PS do you guys use floracarbon much for leaders. The water up here is probably clearer than down your way.
  2. I have a 19 seanymph .It has a back up trolling motor along with a 120 evinrude. Is that big enough for lake erie witha good forcast.I have a 26 searay but it would cost alot to trailer it to erie.maybe next summer I could bring it for a few weeks.I hear the perch and walleye are thick this year.
  3. are the muskies difficult to release and survive? Someone told me they fight so hard like a steelhead that they often exhaust themselves so that survival after release is in jeopardy. It sure is a awesome fish.I never caught a musky beforejust a few large northerns.
  4. lots of fish at those depths last night.Ive seen it before typical fall picture.I trolled out to 200 and had one knockoff.I did see some good bait and fish but down very deep around 110.If I go again I will go deep for younger fish off shore. There are kings in close but very hard to turn them with the clear water up here now Weekend looks good for a offshore trip.
  5. old stahdbye was suttons 38 copper and I also used firplugs for some sucess
  6. fishing out of pultneyville was slow for me today.Found surface temp had dropped 10 degrees from last week down to 62.The down temp was also down 100 for a temp break over 120.Marked scattered fish ,probably stick to points now for more fish.had a good rip on a slider 40 ft down.i finaly tried for some lakers deep on cowbells with little luck heard later lakers were shallower that where i fished them.Well another day on the water maybe fishless is part of the game.had to take care of other business so I didnt go later for the evening troll which has been the most productive. later this week and the weekend looks good.
  7. a all to common problem these days.most of my buddies have retired from the sport, busy with my grandkids ,going to take them up to the boat.hope you find a buddy.
  8. try the waterplant west of bear.Follow the pipe and a little nw about 35 ft is a rubble area that produces well, lots of perch and bass.
  9. copper takes alot of endurance.i fish with some young guys who run three copper rods .2 on planers and one out the back.Cant compete with them on fish but than again i fish solo alot and cant run more than 3 rods anyway.I have parkinson so someday ill probably will need one.I was going to buy a cheap one but found it unable to buy parts and it had no levelwind i did fish with some fellow fishermen who have advanced PD.They realy have a hard time reeling but love to fish.Maybe next year ill set up the boat so its easier on them and might get a electromate to go with my penn330 gti ive been buying on ebay cheap.rather buy a used penn than a import anyday
  10. Ive always had the idea of forming a club for us trollers. My sons run a bass club which is very popular so why not a club for us trollers. I sure have the time to start one preferably one covering wayne county.Winter would be a good time to set one up. let me know john
  11. saturday morning looks best with winds gusting around noon with rain.pultneyville wind wave and weather has been a good resource for me http://www.pultneyvilleyachtclub.org/weather.htm
  12. Glad to hear your nephews are interested in fishing.Alo tof kids today can't get away from computers let alone go for a boat ride.make it as pleasant you can and they will be good fishing buddies for life,
  13. Last night I worked the inside 40 to 80 areanear my port temp was good and I hit alot of fish the night before.Action was much slower inside while my friend took 6 matures at 180 top 60 ft.on frog spoons and flashers. It was just to windy for a solo trip for me. I did get blown out to 100 ft and had three rods go off .No One home on two lost the other fish. next trip Im moving up to #4 jplugs as they can run alot faster.I also use a fast diamond king spoon under the J so I dont get alot of pull offs when the lower rod goes off.Fish seem to sound on a spoon but will rise more on a plug. Looking forward to next trip to burn some j"s. Speed was maxium when the riggers were realy singing ,about 5. I secret i found with jplugs was to school them and make alot of turns.
  14. got to keep a eye on the weather all the time. Forcasts are only opinions. It can change in a moment, storms can come before we realize it.My advice is to stay off the lake in a small boat unless you are sure of the pending weather.Especialy be sure of your boat.many accidents happen when motors stall and a wave comes over the back dooming the craft.
  15. nice catch.Anybody netting these fish solo deserves a round of appause.
  16. Buried a treble hook in my leg one day I went to a afterhours and was lucky they had a cutter to snip the hook.If not I would have had to ED and it could have cost me over a thousand. Not a bad idea to but a hook cutter just in case you need to take out a hook.Mine is in my tool tbox ready for the next foul hook fisherman.
  17. We fished from 6 to 8 pm.Ran 5 #3 jplugs we were 2 for 5 .One large fish broke the line(stacked lines) the rest were gone before we could set the hook. One nice brown arond 7 lbs and a teenager salmon. The fish hit mostly middepth lines set back around 50 ft.Fished 60 to 83 ft.off port. All fish were out of temp. Going back tomorrw afternoon.Jplugs especialy the small ones still continue taking fish. Another boat out much deeper did better than us.Something like 3 for 5 matures. love this salmon fishing hope it lasts till halloween.
  18. It wa a slow day also for me.Three browns and six other hits,Im sure some of them were salmon the way they moved to the surface so fast.I had most luck with blue dolphin mag, green and white prochip along with a blue flt took a nice brown.Again I had several hits on the #3 green and silver with rattle J plug.Caught two browns on it today. I would have liked to use my jplugs in a school.3 downriggers and stacked lines at various depth. The only problem is the lack of bait where I fish.Sounds like the bait has moved east towards sodus. I did see many lakers which are always so accomodating, lol Well hope to get out tomorrow afternoon,VA appoinment at noon. Afternoons have outproduced mornings for me anyways.
  19. I belong to the pultneyville yacht club,These guys raced sunday and when they came in about three said the wind had not died much. I tried sailing a few weeks ago and loved it. We sailed from our port to sodus and back.Average speed with a good south wind was 7 knots.Definitly going to look for a boat this fall. You can always (usualy) go sailing if the lake is to rough for fishing.Ill just have 2 docks to pay for. The best of both worlds.Enjoy life at is fullest.
  20. great report, wonder why so many fish solo.Ill tell you landing a king solo is a feat to be proud of.let alone "three"awesome.Im content with one but Im getting greedy knowing time is short .Dipseys and small j-plugs worked well last night.
  21. We lost a nice king tonight on a #3 jplug behind a dipsey.I heard about it from another fisherman and it works .Wil be using it tomorrow as there are lots of matures crusing our waters now.
  22. went out tonight with captain Joe (Set and ready charters and friends. It was a awesome evening trip.Boated 4 large kings,a large coho, rainbow ,browns and several lakers.Copper took many along with several hits on dipseys.Meat took several fish behind flashers . We fished west of pultneyville to almost bear.creek120 to 150 temp was 80 down. It was a memorial night with thanks to Captain Joe and his friends. Joe realy knows his fishing and it paid off.
  23. looks like the kings will be around awhile, hopefully till halloween
  24. hey nice fish, have you heard of any perch action on seneca yet?thanks, john
  25. went out late saturday and saw the same picture 90 to 120.Lots of kings and bait .temp down about 85.I only had a few hours as my party informed me they had to cut the trip short due to a engagment. In hindsight always ask before trips when they need to be back in,They caught a brown. Then the storm came by and never made it out for the PM trip. Going out today but no party.Solo again. My search for good trolling partner continues.
