  1. I have always had Mercruisers with alpha 1 drives and would run a 5 gallon container of pink antifreeze thru the outdrive with muffs to winterize the engine. New boat has Volvo 5.0 GI engines with duoprop drives. Can I winterize thru the drives with muffs or is it better to drain the water out of engine and manifold and water pump hoses? Also if I do drain the water out do I have to back fill it with antifreeze? The Volvo manual just says to have a certified Volvo mechanic do it.
  2. I really don’t want to drill a hole in the bottom of my boat. The p79 is only like 125 bucks, if it doesn’t work out and alot of detail is lost I can always do a transom mount. This is a project for next year so I have a little time to think about it.
  3. I am switching from a totalscan transducer for my lowrance carbon 9. Never used the side scan and hardly ever the down scan. I mostly troll for salmon. I have been looking at the airmar P79 which is 50/200. It looks pretty easy to install. My question is I see that they make model called XSonic P79. What’s the difference other than the standard P79 is 7 pin for lowrance and the XSonic is 9 pin. Thanks in advance.

  5. You shouldn’t have any problems. Have mine mounted the same way.Use it don’t sell it, the fog comes up quick on Lake Ontario especially this time of year. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  8. Here are some pics of lowrance hds9 carbon with split screen showing fish in riggers, on bottom, thermocline, swimming down, waypoints. I haven’t been disappointed with the size of the screen and you don’t need to split it. I run it on medium chirp. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. That’s awesome, a big relief to know that, thank you. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. I use the general fishing mode. Here are a couple pictures to get you started, just going to have to play around with it.Also make sure you download the latest software.I had trouble with the transducer staying straight with it being so long, it would always tip down after awhile. The plastic bracket finally cracked and lowrance replaced it no problem with a steel one and I added a support bar so now it won’t move. Good luck and have fun. 11. I emailed Capt. Tim Maxam, owner of the TowBoat,on April 25th about when he would have the boat ready for service. I found out the hard way a few years ago in April when I broke down that it wasn’t available 24/7 since he told me he doesn’t have it ready till mid May weather permitting. He told me “ looks like we won’t be going in unless something changes. Looking to sell the business. As of now it looks like Rochester will handle calls, have yet to work out the details.” I sure hope this isn’t so, would hate to lose such a valuable service. It would take hours for someone to come from Rochester all the way to Sodus. Can anybody verify this. Please prove me wrong. Some of you must know Tim personally. Thanks in advance. 14. I want to give a shout out to capt Paul, Kingfisher III, for turning me on to the incredible fishing out of oak orchard. We had a steady pick from 7 to 3 and went 19 for 22 with the biggest king at 16 lbs. Targeted 150-200 fow with a 4 rigger, 2 diver setup. Riggers parked at 30,45,60,75 took most of the fish. Divers out 140 and 170 took a few and lost a few. Mostly a spoon bite tho. Sorry no pics, all fish were unhooked and released from the net outside the boat. Thanks again big brother! Hope you can make it out to Sloodus this year and help me find some fish! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. I understand that when a fish grabs the cheater it slides down the main line to the lure, but what happens when a fish grabs the lure on the main line? Do you have to stop and remove the cheater before reeling the fish all the way in or do you just power through it when it reaches the rod tip? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
