  1. Don't use that crappy breakaway cable that comes with the probe, I lost a cannonball a few years ago when I was bringing the ball over to me. There must have been a weak spot in the cable and it broke free alright, right to the bottom. I made up a heavy duty rig to attach the ball. My probe never comes within 10 ft of the bottom so I don't need it to break free.
Also, those probes are about $250 to replace so if it's not in the water it's in the protective case, I don't dangle it from the downrigger.IMG_1348.JPG

  2. So the last few day's I've fished in the pm and haven't done very well, 2 fish each nite. The fishings better in the morning right, so I get up at 4:30 today, drive 30 min out to Sodus, putt- putt for another 30 min to get out to the lake, then another 30 min to get out to 150 fow and set up. Now it's 6:30.

I troll around the 150-170 area for an hr with nothing happening. Even shadowed some charter captains from a distance and listened to them on the radio, they weren't having much luck either.

Decided to go north and not turn around till I caught something. Finally in 315 the 250 wire with f/f fires with a nice 16 lb King.

By the time I net him and clear the other rods of fleas(4 riggers, 2 wires) I'm in freaking 450 fow.

Turn around, head south and get one more King, 10 lbs, in 180 fow on rigger 130 down f/f.

Missed one on 100 rigger with f/f in 160.

Ended up 2-3 for almost 7 hrs of trolling! Oh well, better than working.

    Nothing on spoons or meat.

The fleas are horrible. Even on wire. If you wait a half hr to clear them it's a mess. Had about 18 inches of flea at the end of my wire dipseys at times

So that's my report if you want to call it that, good luck to all.IMG_1340.JPGIMG_1341.JPG

  3. 2-2 both lakers, 5 lbs and a 12 lbr. Fished straight out from 150 - 200 fow. Lots of bait and hooks in 150-170 just couldn't get em to go. Both fish came on 130 rigger, green gold f/f in 155 fow. Riggers with spoons didn't move nor did 250 and 300 wires with f/f. Fleas were bad and I just switched over to 30 lb big game. Fished from 5:15 - 8:15, lake was dead calm. Gona give it a go in the morning and hope I have better luck.IMG_1339.JPG

  4. Fished from 5:15 to 8:15. Went 2-4 with a 17 lb King being the biggest and a 5 lb laker. Was a little bumpy out there so we started a couple miles west in 200 fow and rode the waves into 130 fow in front of the bluffs. That's where we picked up the laker on the 130 rigger with green/ gold pro troll flasher n crinkle mirage atomic fly. Turned the boat around and headed back into the waves and picked up the king in 150 fow on 300 wire, gold dipsey with black ring, 42nd SD with green and black atomic fly. 95 rigger and 115 rigger, both with spoons took a shot.

Ran 4 riggers and a wire dipsey. Had 48-50 degree temp 115 down pretty consistent. Riggers were at 85, 95 , 115 and 130. Top 3 riggers had spoons and the deepest had the f/f along with the wire.

The bay is still a no wake zone , water has gone down some but not much.IMG_1333.JPGIMG_1334.JPG

  5. Started setting up at at 10:00 in 100 fow, headed west till all the lines were in then went north. Picked up a 10 lb King on a 4 color leadcore with a glow frog spoon shortly after getting setup. Another 10 lb King on 30 ft rigger in 120 fow on a greasy chicken wing 20 ft back. Last fish was a 17 lb laker on green flasher/ mirage fly on the bottom in 140 fow 14 ft behind the ball. Stayed between 100-160 fow with best screens 120-140. Caught the 3 fish between 10:00 and noon, off the water at 2:00. Heard a lot of reports of lakers being caught.IMG_1253.JPGIMG_1255.JPG

  6. Left Arnie's about 3:00 after the fog lifted and it took about 35 min to get out into the lake because the whole bay is a no wake zone. Started setting up in 50 fow and rode the waves east toward the bluffs. 2 sticks off one board and a 3 color of the other. Spoon down 6 ft on rigger, another spoon down 15 on another rigger and a flasher/ fly on a third hugging the bottom. Trolled for 90 min into 20 fow without a release.

Picked up n moved out to 150 fow. Put out the 3 color off a board, 180 dipsey with f/f , spoon on rigger 50 down, and a green flasher n mirage fly 100 down off rigger. Started seeing some fish on the bottom in 130 fow, thought they were lakers so I lowered the f/f to 120 and it popped. Turned out to be a 16 lb King. Fished till 7:00 and didn't move another rod. Good luck to everyone fishing this weekend!
