  1. Every day in the fall we all wake up and wish we were in the woods. I look out the window of the hospital I work at while my trailcameras send me pictures of target bucks randomly walking by my treestand. If I was only there?  I had an agreement with the warden that if I woke up the kids, made them breakfast, rake all of the leaves to the road and clear the gutters I could do the night hunt. High demands, but I have been hunting all week. I said DEAL. So I woke up early and did everything I needed to do and left for the night hunt....at 11:30am. She thought I was nuts. It was 26 degrees out and snowing when I left.  I was down the road and in the stand by 12:15pm. I just had a weird feeling. Have been seeing a lot of bucks cruising between 1-3pm.   It was cold as hell out but the wind was blasting me in the face and he came out at 12:50pm. I thought he was going to walk away and then I grunted, but pointed away from him. I’ve never seen the hair on the neck of a deer stand up like his did. He was pissed and started strutting right into the shooting lane I was hoping. As soon as he nudged into the lane I grunted to stop him. He stood perfect broadside 30 yards and I put a swhacker into his pumphouse. He ran about 50 yards and stopped. While standing there he started wiggling his tail frantically and fell over. It happened so fast I didn’t start shaking until after the shot.

This thread is awesome and was hoping to have an opportunity to contribute a story. Lucky I guess.  And I can’t wait for opening weekend stories. It’s like christmas with guns. Good luck everyone 🦌 [emoji256]

  2. Thanks fellers. That is a bummer seeing a target dead with no clue as to who, what, where. I assume you are gonna ask the neighbors. Let us know, curious.

I lost a great buck this year. Thought the shot was perfect, the buck never bedded and crossed a main road. Went back the next day to follow up and again on sparse blood but never bedded. Got permission from adjacent land owner. Long story made short, I followed up for another week looking for birds, blood, smell to no avail. Stinks bc these were small wood lots in mt Morris, NY. Hoping this deer is still alive. If you hunt long enough it’s gonna happen. Still sucks.

  3. Yah, you work so hard for the opportunity snd then you hurry the shot. I just have to be better. I will be better next time, but I’m done with the bow for the year. That just takes all the want out of me. Here is a pic of the 7 we found. It was a good deer and yes I believe it was tripping the dog up. Searched for over 6 hours today and covered almost all available areas within a mile. Grid searched, never had good blood really beyond the arrow

Just wondering if you were able to find the hunter who shot the 7 point. What area were you in??

  4. I was able to close out my NY archery season with a decent buck this weekend. It was one of those mornings in the woods you never forget. From 7:00 until 9:30 there was never a time I couldn't see a deer. Most of that time consisted of a 2 year old and 2 smaller bucks chasing a bunch of doe. At 1 point a could see 12 different doe in the group. At 9 this one joined the party and came in to 30 yards. It has been a great archery season for me. 2 doe early, an Ohio public land buck, and this one. Good luck this week to those still out there with archery gear and good luck and be safe during the upcoming war on deer that kicks off Saturday. 20201115_203233.thumb.jpeg.8910b48437e6411577a1913dc7a4fda3.jpeg

  5. Congratulations to all with your recent harvest. Got my opportunity yesterday while leaving my hunting spot. Spotted a buck that had a doe pinned down in the golden rod while walking out. Put the wind in my favor and started the stalk. While crawling on my belly I would stop every few yards to check his location. 150 yards and one hour later I put an arrow in the sweet spot. Not my biggest but Definitely my most deserving and hardest earned deer!! 62707142497__0046D515-0646-4622-BDBF-01AC6A4F9B3F.JPGIMG_3356.JPG
