Well……it wasn’t one of the big bucks I have on camera….but it just felt right. One of my goals this season was to take a deer from the ground with my bow. Not out of a blind, but like hide behind a tree kinda hunt. So that I did. My first sit was last week, and I was able to get a shot at a doe from the ground at 22 yards but my arrow hit a sapling I couldn’t see through my peep about 10 inches before it got to the deer. An inch left or right and it was game over. Anyway, fast forward till this morning. I picked a tree to kneel against in the dark and as it got lighter the less and less I liked the spot. I only had one small opening in the direction I thought the deer might come from. I debated moving spots, but it was like that prime deer movement time in the morning, so I stayed put. At about 730 I catch movement to my right and it’s this buck. The way I’m positioned on the tree and with brush right infront of me I had no chance at a shot. The buck kept working to my right and every time he got behind a tree I was quietly straightening my legs out so I could get down to my butt. I somehow got completely turned around without the buck ever knowing I was there. He went behind one last big tree and I drew my bow back and waited for him to come past it. He came past the tree at 32 yards quartering to me. I’m at full draw on my butt. I put the pin in front of the front shoulder and grunted, the buck stopped and I let it fly. I heard the arrow hit the deer and he took off running, but when he went to run he almost face planted. I watched him plow the ground as he ran and I knew I smoked him. He ran to the corner out of my view and after about 5 minutes I heard all kinds of thrashing and knew he was down. I was shaking with adrenaline, and that’s what it’s all about if you ask me. It wasn’t a big buck, but I couldn’t be happier with the hunt and the harvest. I’ll have another valid buck tag in just a couple weeks, and it’s a big guy or bust with that tag. In the mean time, time to thin the doe heard!

Couldn't resist taking a doe tonight, freezer is empty and have had zero buck action for to long. The wet spring kept me from getting good food in the ground. Was great because I couldn't resist packing up, walking all the way back to the truck, and driving home to get my 4 year so he could track his first deer. Blood hound already, even though he almost literally stepped on her before he saw her because he was so focused on following blood ! Great Moments for sure!20191207_175050.jpeg20191207_175149.jpeg

Is your son really a little guy or is that an extra large doe?  It looks huge!

Just my two cents, I would approach a situation with another armed human in a calm and non aggressive manner.

I was once accused of trespassing in Keuka by a regular hunter of the land. I had permission to hunt the property but the other regular didn’t bother to ask first. He threatened to “kill me” or hurt me so bad that I couldn’t “trespass anymore”. Thank god it was bow season. He was yelling and screaming for a good 10 minutes. I waited and said I would only come down if he could actually have a conversation (Was in a climber).

I got down out of my tree and calmly explained who I was and why I was ok to be there. I then explained that he told another human being that he was going to kill them and quoted his words back to him. He seemed to get the message as he backed way off and we ended the conversation speaking on friendly terms.

Point is that even though these trespassers stink, you are better off just keeping a lid on the temper. Especially when weapons are present. Get the law involved, let them work and don’t let anger get the better of you. What I went through was nuts, and I wasn’t doing anything wrong. Starting from a place of rational conversation would have been much better for both him and I.

People are crazy and it would be dumb for something to escalate Needlessly. Do unto others........

I would second that.  I saw this article by Jay Gregory well known tv hunter a while back.

Todd is the guy to go to.  He has done three for me in the last year and he does great job!  would not go anywhere else, unless he stopped doing them.  585-880-4638 is number to call.

We have found one. The story is the same. Either hunter got excited and tried a quartering-to shot hitting the shoulder with minimal penetration or they are gut shot. The problem with the gut shot ones is there are coyotes everywhere out here and they find them quick. Once jumped out of their bed by the coyotes, there is no blood trail to follow just clumps of hair here and there.

When the deer is not found, is that it for the hunters hunt?  I know a lot of places have an "if you draw blood" policy.

The deer I shot on Sat with a rage had very little blood trail because he was bleeding internal from a double lung pass through.  I did not have to worry about a blood trail though because I saw him drop within sight.  That was fourth deer shot with a rage hyperdermic and never had to track.  My buddy shot this one yesterday with a rage.  No tracking needed.

  6. Was 14 degrees in 9Y today at:5:30 this morming.  Ground had been soaked and now it had frozen. I was sure I would never see a deer because every step I took walking to my stand sounded like it would carry a 1/4 mile. I convinced myself  that since I had gotten up and made it this far  to get my stand as quickly as I could.  I got there  and it was still dark.  As soon as it got light enough to see, I saw deer running in the field past the edge of the woods. This was the one time I forgot my binoculars and  everything was at least 200 yards out.  I told myself a buck would have his head to the ground sniffing and not eating like the does, so I thought I saw a couple bucks. At 6:55 I see a deer hugging the treeline and it stops at corner of field closest to me. Another deer from middle of field runs towards it. So I thought first deer might be a doe and a buck was coming to check it out. When the second deer got close to the first one he started to posture up.  I said hah that first deer must be a buck.  They started to spar lightly and I thought I was going to see my first buck fight.  The second deer decided to head back the way he came and the first one stayed in the wood line and started walking to in my direction. I had already ranged that corner of the woods and field at 45 yards  and this buck was staying in the woods and coming closer quickly.  I picked him up in scope of my crossbow and when he got broadside at 20 yards.  I sent a rage hyperdermic at spot right behind his shoulder. he jumped and ran out into field and back towards the woods. It was open enough that I saw him fall and start kicking in the air.  7:05 and I had my biggest buck ever down.  I have seen bigger but buck fever has gotten the best of me til now.  My stand was in the  tallest of these pines.  Landowner had a trail cam picture of him and another one about the same size but with bigger brows.

Walker rd and Hamlin Parma town line rd. There is a guy named Todd...he has a Jeep parked out front with a sign on it. I’ve used him the past two years. Quick turn around and really nice cuts on the venison.

Thanks to everyone who recommended Todd.  I took two deer to him on Sat and he had them done within four hours and

the breakfast sausage he made is some of the best I ever had.  He did a great job and had a very fair price!
