Fished same general area today. Got one rainbow up high (3 color). No other fish up high at all. Could have been the calm conditions, but there is plenty of bait up high, with a few surface feeding fish visible. Was running lines out and back a ways to avoid spooking fish. Got any other ideas why fish were not hitting at all in the top 60ft?
Too much bait! Well fed fish!

No problem! I see you carve, just ducks?
I carve decoys and I also do handcarved fishing lures. I have an addiction with making everything! Got my riggers zeroed today, worked out great. Thanks again!

I got a pair of digitroll 2 riggers with my new to me boat. I don't have a manual for them. Does anyone know how to zero them? I need to zero them with the weights at the waterline. They are a little off. Thanks, Mark

Check out the shimano convergence mooching rod. I have 2 of the 10'6" models with daiwa mooching reel. They are fun to run on riggers and I love the drag on the reels. I've caught kings on them with no problems. They are not the best with rookies though. Take a little getting use to so I don't put them out when I have new guys on the boat. Mark

Thanks for the replies guys. Most people ask how long it takes to make them. Tough to judge because I do everything in multiples and stages but I timed myself with a similar bait and cut out, carved and sanded it in less than an hour. Not too bad. Once I get some solid designs dialed in I'm gonna make a mold and start casting them out of resin. Then I can form the body, ballast and wire all in about 10 minutes! Here is some alewife baits I've been working on. We caught kings on some of these a couple years ago. Mark

Handmade Goby Trolling Lure
Been working on some goby lures. Completely handmade, handcarved, I make the rattles too. These dive 3-4' and have a nice wobble. They are loud with the rattles. I tested a prototype a couple years ago and caught fish right off the bat with them. Looking forward to testing these soon. I don't think I'll be able to drop below a 15lb flouro leader!

I lowered the price of Lot number 4 to $35 and Lot number 6 to $20. That's about $2 each including shipping. Mark

Replacement for Daiwa Heartland Rod?
in Tackle and Techniques
Posted
I had a rookie in the boat today who broke one of my favorite dipsy rods. Daiwa heartland 9’6” 12-30lb line. It looks like Heartlands are no longer available, looks like the Great Lakes model is its replacement? Anybody have any experience with them? Any suggestions for dipsy rods? I prefer a more parabolic action for dispsy and 9’6”. Thanks!
