  1. looks like i'm in for only 1 net, my buddy has already grabbed one. i'm def still in for 1 though.

mm, how do we pay for these, and when?

was also curious as to which net you use for muskies?

irishhammer, if we get these before i help bring a couple of my buddies boats back to oswego from clayton, i can drop yours off to you. we'll be bringing the 1st boat back next weekend

  2. Looking forward to participating Tom. I will be at your event as well as Sodus. The shootout is a great idea. I have no plans to fish Wilson this year though, so my interest would only be if one event can be dropped. Either way though, I think some type of unification and overall title would be a plus for all 3. Thanks for all the hard work Tom

Tommy, also will you be able to carry team members and points to another vessel for different events? For instance, I've been honered in being asked to fish with a team in wilson on another boat other than mine, but I'll be fishing outta my boat in your event, and possibly the Sodus. On the team in Wilson, all but the Captain are on my tournament team also. This could determine if we fish the sodus event or if we can even enter the sootout at all.

  3. Great article Jimmy. I was also talking with a scuba diver also recently who emphisized that not only is the "haze" significant in the thermocline but distance can be distorded at the very top or slightly above (to our eyes at least) in certian light conditions. Has me thinking that if we're getting allot of missed hits at the very top or slightly above the thermocline, maybe slowing the action of the fly down a bit (strech your leader or adjust your connection to the flasher) to allow them to hone in on it. If our eyes are distorded in certian conditions, it's quite possible that a fish"s latteral lines are effected the same way. Just a thought.

See you in a few months Jimmy,

    Greg

took my buddy and his cousin from fla out for few hours yesterday afternoon. we checked mexico point first, but it was a little choppy and with just the 17' we decided it woud be better/easier fishing oswego harbor. got launched and setup around 330 and started working the walls. picked up 1 on our first pass off the inner east wall and thought we were going to hammer them, but it turned out to be a slow pic the next couple hours. ended up going 2 for 5, both cookie cutter browns. black and silver rebel took a few hits and carmel dolphin a couple. the water in the harbor was 54-almost 56 in the spot we found a break. rediculous for 3/23. only a couple other guys working the walls with what looked like similiar results. a few here and there, nothing fast & furious. we marked quite a few pods of fish suspended in the deeper water, but took most of the hits tight to the wall of the planers. thought it was going to be a hot bite, but at least my buddies cousin got a brown.

very tough day for me yesterday on the big o. we started the day with a flat tire on the trailer a day after the lugs broke off the bearing on the other side of the trailer! quick tire change and we were off the mex point in the fog. i was surprised at how many boats were at the launch when we got there. had to be 25 rigs, on march 17th! dumped and headed to butterfly to get set up. worked from 8 out to 30 from catfish to the high rocks and found some warmer green water that had some fish, but only managed 1 solid hookup. i also noticed the fish we caught was hooked under the mouth so i'm guessing he just slapped at it and got hooked. didnt see many nets dipping anywhere. did watch one guy threw the nocs fight something big for about 10 mins. saw it make a few runs and then watched the rod come flying back at him with limp line. big brownie or a salmon maybe?

on a side note, the boat idiocracy has already started! on multiple occasions i had guys either "trying" to push me in, squeez between 2 of us working together, or just flat out not be watching where they're going!!! i couldnt believe that with the fog as bad as it was, we saw guys bs's at the back of the boat setting lines not watching where they were going and litterally came right at us. this guy cut me out of a turn twice yesterday (once pushing me over the flats east of catfish forcing me to bring up my riggers and dipsey to make sure i didnt lose them. its only 5-6' in there!!) also while not paying attention. someone needs to be driving the boat at all times when visibility is that low! sorry for the rant. just not use to the ignorance so early in the season. i'll be out again a few afternoons this week and probably one day next weekend so i'll post conditons and results when i do. still cant believe we're fishing browns with this weather in march! going to be in the 70's this week, crazy!

  8. i target lakers in close in the adks right after ice out and it can be rediculous, may be the best fishing of the year or them. i know they kill them down by niagara also early in the year so i dont think your buddy catching them is out of the ordinary. might be worth noting down for future trips for spring lakers!

  9. mario isnt the solution to their problem. though i believe he will make an imidiate impact with the pass rush, lots of other broken pieces need to be addressed on the other side of the ball (and some coaching issues). defense wins championships, but you still need to move the ball and get 1st downs, take some time of the clock when you have the ball. the addition of meacham should help free up stevie johnson from the doubles, but the lack of a quality line may be an issue giving fitzpatrick time. they really need to add 2 quality olineman to give fitz his time and a couple d backs to stop the deep ball and give williams time to do his thing. all in all though, its a step in the right direction.

oh ya, by the way,,,,,,, dolphins fan here!

  10. As a guy thats been wanting to get back to tourney fishing for a few years now (ex bass federation tourneys) and finally has the opportunity to this year, I'm very excited to see the payouts and have no worries about competing with the bigdogs in the open class. I think it should not only give the ams a great chance for a payout, but they also have the opportunity to out fish some of thie top guys and I would think that would be more of an accomplisment than out fishing other ams teams (though I do get the competitiveness). I would love to be able to say "we outfished (any big guy) this weekend and won money for gas and more tackle!" I've been fishing next to the bigdogs for years outta my 16'-17's and I'm sure put more fish in the boat on certian days and have caught just as big of fish, and if one of those days is during a proam,,, their would be some happy campers on the boat. Yes, the guys that fish every day will have a slight advatage to the patterns, but as we all know the lake can change overnight and at that point, the knowledge of what worked yesterday is useless. The only way the bigger boats really have any advantage is the weather in my opinion. They can also run a few more rods, but I dont believe in more rods catching more fish. Thats just their program. A 6 rod spread dialed can fish just as good as a 10 rod spread. Its all about dialing it in.

With that being said, I never fished the previous format and really dont know all the changes. Just wanted to give my 2 cents from a am thats hasnt fished it before and say thanks to all that worked to keep things running.

  11. radissons are a great option for a stable fishing canoe. i have 2 14' and i'm looking for a 16' to add to the collection. i have a 2hp i mount on the bracket mnt that comes with the pointed models and that works fine. the square backs are nice for mounting motors, but you lose allot of the carring wieght. you'll love them for fishing either way.

  12. try a leadcore down the chute  . been deadly the last 2 years on my 17' alumacraft. i like to run 2 rigger lines, leadcore down the chute, 2-3 planers off the port (off a single mast), and a flatline and a slider dipsy of starboard. had many banner days running this program the last 2 years. nothing like having 7 fish on 7 rods with 4 people in a 17', total chaos!

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

we got out a couple times this weekend for a few hours and found allot of fish, but could only entice a few, and getting them in the boat proved to be a challenge for a couple of my buddies. started sat morning in front of the 5 stacks and worked our way back west in and out from 90-120'. found some good bait and lots of fish on the bottom in 100'. managed 1 with 3 misses/lost fish from that pod we found , but decided to look for some more active fish. marked another big pod in 110' and took a slam on the 226' dipsey w/mnt dew spinfly w atomik blue and yellow (not sure the name). after a nice mutiple screaming runs, we boat my biggest on the new vessel at 28lbs. nothing more for an hour so we started to troll back to port. we were in 80' righ of port with only 3 rods in the water when the bottom riger fires and starts screaming. now my buddy had taken enough abuse from us about losing his last to fish (not a fisherman and has only caught panfish) was determined to get this fish in. after a 15min fight, we boat his first ever salmon at 22lbs. called it a day and headed in to watch me some football (great games this weekend by the way).

got an early start on sun. we were leaving port about 5;15 and setting lines at 5:40. i started to set up in 65' and my buddy asks me if the sonar is broken because of all the fish and bait we're markling, good sign! had just got all the lines set and the 226 (been a good number for us) fires and starts ripping. i grab the rod out of the holder and it goes soft. reel it in to see my new (tied that morning) 30lb flouro snapped! man those fish strike those dipseys so violently! started to retie to dipsey and the bottom riger fires and starts ripping, set the hook and hand the rod off and the high rigger fires, doubled up! after about 5 minutes into the double the wind started howling, and we were doind 3mph in neutral with the wind! managed to get one of the double in and my buddy knocked his 3rd fish off the line with the net. he's now 1-4 netting on my boat! we headed in because of the storm, and let her blow over. headed back out when she calmed down a bit, but the bite had shut off for us and all we did was ride the waves (some good ones for that matter) for the next 2 hours and then called it a day. nothing great, but put some fish in the boat, and my buddies are starting to learn how to help out instead of busting my chops and giving me a hard time!
