  2. We all had a great time fishing the Fulton Chain of Lakes Saturday. We had 4 fish registered with a very close final standings. Only a couple inches separating the field.

Brian Buttner took first and big fish with his 33" pike. Jason Allen took a very close second place decided by tie breaker with his 32.5" pike. Casey Hoffman and Marty Pietrowski split 3rd with a 31" pike each. Congratulations guys and thanks to all of the anglers that stuck to it in less than ideal conditions and just didn't score. It was great to see a few new faces, as well as catch up with our members.

Thank you to everyone that helped getting this setup and making it happen!

  3. Why do you exclude Fifth Lake?  And why C+R only, the pike should not be in that lake to start with, removing them would do all the Trout and Salmon anglers a favor?

There have been multiple inquiries about waters allowed to be fished for this tournament so I have edited the main topic to reflect that concern.

Muskies Inc. is a conservation based group and practicing catch and release for Esox is one of its core values; all our events will be C&R.

  4. We had a great turnout for our Otisco Lake Tiger Tournament in September. The tournament was originally scheduled for early August but we had to reschedule due to high water temperatures this summer. The guys were able to connect with a good number of tigers. Jason Allen came up big with 2 fish that were 39" and 30" securing first place and big fish for a nice chunk of the prize money. Marty Pietrowski came in second place with his 36" tiger and 3rd went to Casey Hoffman with a 35" tiger. Doug Coney and Trevor Thieme put fish on the board as well with a 33" and 31", respectively. Many fish were caught just shy of 30” as well.

  5. We are rescheduling our Otisco tournament for Saturday, September 15th. Unfortunately, the water temperature has reached a level that makes successful release of these fish difficult.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope you can see that we have the best interest of the fish and fishery in mind.

Please share this information with anyone who may have been planning on attending but may not see this post. We hope to see you September 15th!

  6. I’ve used the Bass Pro Graphite Muskie rods and I think they are a great rod especially for the price when you are just starting out considering all the release tools and baits you’ll be buying at the same time too.

  7. The tournament yesterday at Waneta Lake was a great success. 45 anglers participated with a total of 16 fish being caught ranging from 31” to 45” (a few fish under 30” were caught as well). There were fish caught throughout the day but the majority of fish seemed to come midday through the end of the tournament with the last hour producing quite a few fish. Many of us learned a valuable lesson fishing Friday and Saturday; regardless of the forecast make sure you bring sunscreen (Friday) and a set of warm clothes (Saturday)!

First place and big fish went to “The Musky Maulers” including Steve Harnish, Brad Houtz, and Jeffrey Houtz. Steve (first time fishing for muskies) caught a 44” *big fish*, 35”, & 40”. Brad Houtz caught a 34” for a team total of 49 points.

Second place went to the Ranalletta’s. Mike caught a 31”, 37”, & 41” while Alyssa caught her first muskie, a real nice 40” fish. Their team total was 45 points.

Third place went to the team of Clint Nicholson and Jay Adams. Jay Adams caught a 45” fish early on in the tournament but was not signed up for big fish. Their team total was 19 points.

    Other scoring fish caught:

    33” & 37” – Mike Guinan

    36” – Doug Coney

    36” – Jason Allen

    32” – Bobby Dymond

    32” – Casey Hoffman

    31” – Travis Young

  8. We would like to thank all those who participated in our tournament at Onondaga Lake yesterday despite the weather. It was chilly and windy day with a ½” of rain coming down. We had 16 anglers come out to compete with many largemouth being caught as well as a few pike, a gar, and a tiger lost in the net.  Doug and Troy Coney won it all with a 30” pike! We will post pictures as we receive them.

We had a good cookout (thank you Mike Small for cooking!) and raffle table afterwards with many who entered the raffle walking away with multiple items.

A special thanks goes out to Bagley Baits and Phantom lures for their generous donations. Please check out their websites, they have some really great products!

Thank you to all that helped make this tournament happen. We would also like to thank Mike Fafinski, Mike Small, Mike Breen, Will Carpenter, Karl Price and anyone else who donated towards our raffle table!

We hope to see you at our next tournament in 2 weeks; Waneta Lake on June 2nd!

  9. A question came up about using bait in the tournament.

Muskies Inc. rules state “Artificial lures & flies only. No live or dead bait can be used.”

We apologize for not stating this on the tournament flyer and will make sure to do so for future events.

  10. Muskies Inc. Central New York will have a booth at the Big East Camping and Outdoor Sports Show next weekend at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino. Whether you are already a muskie fanatic or have never fished for them, stop in and see us, we’d be happy to chat and share our experiences. You can learn about muskie fishing and check out what we’ve been up to and what we have in the works. You will also be able to sign up for our club at the show.

We will have another raffle including a box full of lures and tools for muskie fishing!

On Saturday one of our members will be tying muskie bucktails and on Sunday one of our members will be tying muskie flies. Come check them out, we hope to see you there!
