  1. My buddies 2008 9.8 Nissan dropped down while running in a couple weeks ago, while in gear, and bump started. He ended up throwing a connecting rod(and various other internal parts) through the powerhead and basically ended that kickers life. Seems like you may have lucked out on any major issues...

  2. That is a monster sheepshead! My buddy who owns the chaumont hardware store holds the state record(24 1/2lbs) you weren't too far off...that thing must have buried the board. Too bad about the eyes, been a tough bites the last couple weeks. Glad to see you got some nice perch anyhow.

  3. You'll be hard pressed to find lodging in sackets. I'd recommend the guffins bay resort/marina. They have a website you can check out. Good fishing can be had right from the launch. Chaumont bay is also easily accessible from here.

  4. I'd say its about 8-10 miles as the crow flies, so depending on your boat and the chop I'd guess half an hour give or take. The quality of fish in the bay can be very good. A lot of smaller fish are caught in the buoys(with a few bigger ones mixed in) at the entrance to the black river. Mostly trolling worm harnesses, although I have seen others drifting for them as well. If you're looking for a trophy in black river bay, the bull rock/everleigh point area is a good start. Also the steep shoreline in front of the battlefield up to horse island has been known to cough up a few big fish. The entire bay can be a fish factory, but its no secret and thus the traffic around there the first couple weeks of the season can be a little heavy.

  5. Henderson can be ok,but for my $ I'd focus on chaumont, guffins, or 3 mile bay. The stretch of shoreline on point peninsula from the red barn on clines pt.to the white barn near shangrila campground holds many big fish early on. In any of these locations, try the 12-25ft range trolling cranks. Traffic can be heavy at times depending on the conditions, but the bite can be on all day as well.

SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAIL Had an great 3 days of fishing to start the year. 4/7 got on the water late, headed south of launch, picked up a double right away, brown and a steelie. Multiple doubles and a couple triples throughout the day. Sticks were hot all afternoon. Great action, ended up 26/32, all browns and 2 steelhead. 4/8 was another great bite, headed south again, but wound up getting the best action by grindstone. Had a large fish snap the line thurs, well south of the launch. Fri. landed a good brown in front of selkirk, and sure enough a spoon in one corner of his mouth, my little ripper in the other! Ended the day 23-26, 1 steelie, 1 atlantic, the rest browns. Mostly on spoons. 4/9 was a tough morning bite, found fish south of launch around 11am when the water surface got some texture. Fishing was slower still managed 11-13, browns and 1 small atlantic, spoon bite again. Overall great time on the water, couldnt ask for a better start to the season.

Hey everyone, this is a great site and im excited to post some reports and share tips and tactics with all of you.I've fished my whole life (28yrs old now)but only got into trolling on Ontario about 5yrs ago. Fell in love with big fish and haven't looked back. Good luck this year and tight lines to all.

  8. It still may be a bit early out of stony yet. This is normally where I do my first few shakedown runs of the year because I live in watertown(only 15mins from launch). Cold water temps still from what I've heard from the few people I've talked to that launched out of there. No fish caught either. Water levels were reported as good, or better than last year anyhow. We're trailering down to mexico thurs. to try our luck. Best of luck, like others have said the fishing can be very good with a lot browns and lakers.
