  1. Was curious if anyone owns or has owned a German Wirehaired Pointer? We are floating the idea around of adding a dog to our family. These guys really stand out to me because they seem to very versatile in the hunting world. I'm looking to have a dog i can train to track blood for personal use, duck hunt, shed hunt and maybe even some up land bird hunting. They are awesome looking and hard workers by the sounds of it. Down side from what I have researched a little, is they are very hyper and can be aggressive to strangers. Not sure that all of them fall into that category but then again maybe they do?

  2. I was off starting last Thursday and hit hard but for some reason its been just down right slow for me. Friday morning passed on a nice 3 year old 8, but thats really the gist of it. Sat all day yesterday and was tortured by the gnats ALL day to the point I decided to cancel the next few days of vacation and move them to when the temps settle back down the end of next week. I know they will still move during the rut but those damn gnats made me feel like I was on Naked and Afraid!! No bueno. Keep on them guys!

  3. Crazy! I stayed in the cabin next door to that one 2 weeks ago! It is a great spot and tons of state land all over in that area.

Just got down to Evergreen Trails campground to hunt state land for the next two days. Finding sleeping accommodations in Allegany County can be challenging. These cabins are open for most of gun season. Location is a few clicks south of short tract. Electric heat. No running water. Quarter operated showers. Wood available for fire pit. Charcoal grill. $75 per night.

  5. Joe, if he's showing up 15 minutes after dark, I would push in somewhere between where he may be bedding and where you are getting pics. A deer can cover a lot of ground in 15 minutes! Believe me, I know the feeling as I just went through this and I don't regret holding out and not getting that target deer.

  6. My son is now 11 and ready to really start shooting and next season he will be able to hit the woods. I'm in search of a youth bow for him. Was wondering what some have used in the past and the pros and cons of different youth bows on the market. He seems to be growing quite a bit year by year, so maybe get him one that has a lot of adjustments or stay away from that style? Any info would be good info, thanks!

  7. I have a 4 or 5 on my lease and they are very productive when everything is dried up. The property is generally pretty wet when there is consistent rain. I just took a couple area that usually held the water the longest and dug 8ft - 10ft in diameter and 3ft - 4ft deep and they hold water all year long. The places to put them for me has been in between bedding and feeding in the woods. The first thing they want when they get out of their beds is water if it is available. They also can be very productive during the rut as the bucks are running hard, they are no different then us when over exerting ourselves, must have water!

  8. I have to agree, i would not consider this as "catfished". Believe I get how much losing hunting ground SUCKS!! I have been leasing the same property for 10 years now. I do ALL the work and pay for ALL that is needed from food plots to clearing trails and mowing or hanging posted signs. With all that, there has been for sale signs up the land to be sold! So some time in the near future I will be out, so again I feel your pain. But at the end of the day the new land owner has one goal right now just as any of us would, keep names and keep people off. Way to much goes into this sport to have one person come in that doesn't belong there that thinks they do to ruin an opportunity of a lifetime. That's my take.
