8/22 Started out in front of the High rocks and headed toward the Lighthouse in 119 fow at 6 am. No sooner I got the first rigger down which was set at 91 I turned around to drop the next and it was fish on. We landed that one which came on the 11 inch e-chip, yellow/ glow/lead back with an atomic ultra green glow 36 inches behind the paddle. That fish was a nice teenager and silver. We caught a second fish same setup at 7 am that was a nice hen 24 lbs. and silver. Our third and last fish came on the wire diver out 257 set at 2 1/2 with a Marv's Big fatty and a Pole Dancer that Big Weenie makes. By 7:50 am our action would stop and we finished 3 for 3 with the last fish being a male weighing 25 lbs. All in all a good morning, back at the cottage before noon.

8/23 Sunday: repeat of Saturday on the rigger, only difference was the two bites came at 101 down. The rigger bite died again so I put the big paddle out on the diver and took number three out 257 again set at 3. Finished the morning 3 for 3 again. All nice matures 24, 24, and 26 lbs. Two hens and one male. Fish were darker today but not black. Also had a whitefish hit the rigger.

Blessed and grateful with a nice weekend. Not a great screen in the trench. Water is warm warm warm. Fish are warm, rigger balls are warm when you bring them up and the fish are gassed quick with not a lot of fight. Two out of the six fought hard and those were the smaller fish. My opinion is the few fish that are present are there out of obligation and not due to ideal conditions for them. We did not see more than a dozen fish netted in two days and the boat traffic was busy. The charters out of the Harbor are struggling as well with putting kings in the box. We all stay hopeful it improves any day now. Tough fishing on the east end for kings right now. Good luck out there.

As of yesterday i heard that the kings are gone in the trench and the water is warm to 130 fow. Today is a new day. Good Luck! You may want to head toward and put more focus on the mouth of the salmon river. A huge run has made a push into the river since early this week. There are still many more to come.

9/1: Started in the trench at Whaley's and worked to just beyond the lighthouse. Tons of boats and tons of fish. We fished from 6 am to 1 pm. Boated 19 salmon. 4 Coho and 15 kings. We did battle with 31 on and started the day 0 for 9 with snaps breaking boats running us over and cutting off, swivels straightening out. Anything that could of gone wrong did. we turned it all around and went on to have a great day despite losing more gear than anyone would want to. Chrome was good all day. Riggers and dipsy's set at 1 and with shorter leads when traffic aloud us to get them out. We got ran over twice with fish on the riggers but that is part of salmon fever combat fishing. We kept the coho's and released successfully the rest of the kings.

9/2: Went out of Stony Creek to avoid some traffic. Headed right out front to 125 fow. Set up spread with 500 copper, 2 dips, 3 riggers. Got set up around 3:30 and fished til 7. We went 6 for 8 with one coho. All chrome program again.

9/3: Launched out of Stoney Creek again and were welcomed by 4-6 footers. Weather man with 1 foot or less was way off. We set up in front of Lakeview and trolled toward the lighthouse in 125 fow. Riggers down 105 and dips out. Everything was on. We made 5 passes down and got our 9 fish and decided that was enough. 3 coho and the rest kings. Green glow echips were the ticket that day with ultra green glow atomic. Fished from 6:30 to noon.

9/4: Launched in Henderson to try to avoid the wind and waves. We ran out the the lighthouse and when we broke the corner we were welcomed by 6 footers with bigger ones mixed in. We turned around and stuck it out in the trench. It ende up being another good one. We went on to boat 10. Tally was 10 for 19. The 11" white echip down the middle was best that day. The dips were good at 265 and 245 on a 2 setting with glow white and glow green with pro ams. We kept one coho and 2 kings and successfully released the rest. Fished from 7 am to 2 pm.

9/5: Headed back to Henderson and launched there. The lake was like glass. Fish were down deep and could only get them to fire in 130-140 fow with the riggers down 125-135. Slow pick of kings and 1 coho. Slid in close to 85-90 fow and had good temp down 60 ft. Dips came alive and riggers down 75, 75, 74. We ended up 10 for 18 with a mix of one brown, one coho and the rest kings.

9/9: Launched out of Henderson and headed out to the islands to try some eyes. Had a bad case of the dropsies and lost 5 in the prop wash and boated one. The one we landed shook off as soon as it hit the net. Made a few more passes and the bite was off. We picked up and ran over to the lighthouse and set up a 5 rod set with 2 dips and 3 riggers. We could not get the dips going but the riggers were on fire. We made one pass from the lighthouse to Whaley's in 90 fow and had the wingers at 85 and the probe at 88. Ice house with a hammer fly, big silver down the middle with a pro am, and NBK with pro am on the other winger did the trick. Speed was tricky with the current again so the probe is critical for success! We went 9 for 11 in one long pass.

It was a fantastic week with alot of fish and quality time spent with family and friends! Here are a few of the pics. Hope you enjoy. We released alot of fish. After all how many do you need to keep? LOL!!!

SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

The word was that the trench was on fire Saturday but due to other engagements i missed out. Many boats did double digits on Saturday. On Sunday morning the word was that the bite was nothing like it was on Saturday but the ones that they are getting are all big matures. I could not get out until the evening so we headed to the lake around 4 pm and were set up by 5 pm. My buddy Geno had a trip out in the morning and boated a 33 lb male and is not in the derby. I had my 4 year old son and my good friend Chris with me with the hopes of getting my son Kage into his first King. He is pretty seasoned for his age and has boated everything but the salmon. We tried to get out last Tuesday evening but just landed one brown trout and had 3 kings go for ripps but couldn't keep them on. We were then greeted by lightning and had get off the lake with no more than an hour of being out.

We got set up with a 3 rigger, 1 dipsy, 1 copper set. 11" echip on the copper and center rigger with an atomic, 8 " chip on the rest. Tried moving the dipsy and copper all around and couldn't get them to budge. I also tried changing things up on the corners and couldn't get them to move. The only 2 bites we could manage were down the middle at 105. The screen looked good but the temp was 74 degrees down 105 and was still 70 degrees down 125. The first bite came not long after getting set up. My friend Chris says its snagged on bottom and i said not its not just keep the pressure on. He then says its still hooked on the cable and again i said no its not just keep the pressure on him. So he is still not convinced until the beast wakes up and ripps off 400' of line fast than he can say holy f*@k its not bottom or the cable. My son then comes out of the cabin and says hey i want to reel him in. But the beast charged the boat and shook off. My buddy gets back on the wheel, Kage back to the cabin and i re rig. We circle the area with not much cooperation from the fish. Just as Chris and Kage are playing with Match Box cars in the back of the boat and my son is complaining that he is bored off goes the center rigger to the races. Chris hands off the rod to Kage and away he goes to cranking without one complaint. The fish came up after one big run but fought hard all the way making alot of small surges. It didn't look that big at first but as it got closer it kept getting bigger. As a kicker to the chaos we forgot the net for the second consecutive trip so i am getting mentally prepared for what is about to happen when we get this hog to the boat. It was going well until the fish charged across the back of the boat and got to the other side. It twisted around the wire dipsy, got it untwisted and managed to get a fish handle under its gills and lifted her into the boat. My son was horrified and really didnt want to get to close to the big girl and we were all laughing and celebrating. I was a pretty proud Dad. That would be the last bite for a short trip for us. I only saw 2 other fish get put to the net from the surrounding boats. We need some better temps and i think we will have better cooperation from the kings. Here are some pics. the fish weighed in at just over 31 lbs and was 38 3/4 inches long. My son is 44 " tall and he felt threated from the beast. I am in the LOC but my son is not and Chris is not either. It looks like another big leader board is going to be the norm.====================

I am posting the advertisement for the tournament. I am just doing it as a favor and to get the word out there. It is the first time that i know of that there is a tournament of this type for the time of year. The fishing gets really good in the late summer and fall in the area and should make for a great catch. Looking forward to it! Hope to see many of you there. If this is a success than i know they want to do it every year.

1st Annual Rydolphâ€™s Walleye Anglerâ€™s Team Challenge

Tournament is to be held Saturday, September 1, 2012. The hours of the competition will be 5:00 am to 3:00 pm on the day of the event unless the tournament committee decides otherwise due to inclement weather.

The tournament fee will be $25.00/angler/team.

ï‚· The big fish fee will be $10.00/angler/team. (All team members must be entered to qualify for big fish).

ï‚· Donation Driven Game feed for participants at Rydolphâ€™s following the weigh in. Donations will be accepted and can be dropped off at Rydolphâ€™s during business hours up to the day of the event or a dish may be prepared and dropped off.

ï‚· 50/50 raffle

ï‚· All cash payout: 1st place receives 30% of the entry dollars

2nd place receives 25% of the entry dollars

3rd place receives 20% of the entry dollars

4th place receives 15% of the entry dollars

5th place receives 10% of the entry dollars

The tournament will be based on a 5 fish box of walleye with the minimum length of 18 inches. The tournament will be on Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River waters in Jefferson County only! The winners will be determined by the total weight of the 5 fish box. Catch and release is encouraged!

Liability: The committee, judges, sponsors, officers, or any other associated person shall not be held responsible for the safety of persons or property of the participants. All tournament boats should carry liability insurance.

Rules:

ï‚· Teams are not limited to a maximum number of anglers per boat however a 2 angler minimum is required.

ï‚· Each member of the team fishing on the boat must be registered. If fishing for the big fish prize money all anglers must be registered. Each team member must have their registration at the time of weigh in.

ï‚· The tournament will be on Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River waters in Jefferson County only!

ï‚· Teams may enter and exit from any port in Jefferson County.

ï‚· The winners will be determined by the heaviest total weight of fish. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided by the time of entry.

ï‚· New York State/U.S. Coast Guard rules and regulations apply.

ï‚· Open communication is permitted.

ï‚· Teams may be on the water before 5:00 am but lines may not enter the water until 5:00 am. Teams fishing before the official start time will be disqualified.

ï‚· Culling the fish to upgrade the box is permitted. If a fish dies and is to be culled there is no penalty to keep the fish. If anglers wish to keep more fish at their discretion that is fine. Catch and release is strongly encouraged.

ï‚· Teams are to only bring a maximum of a 5 fish box to the weigh in station so have the 5 best ready upon arrival and release the rest if capable.

ï‚· Any cooler to be brought to the weigh station with more than 5 fish or a fish that is not of legal length of 18 inches will result in the team to be disqualified.

ï‚· Fish will be weighed in at Rydolphâ€™s in Henderson Harbor starting at 2:00 pm. Teams must be in line no later than 3:00 pm with team members, registrations, and cooler present. No teams will be allowed to weigh in fish if not in line by 3:00pm. Fish to be released will go untouched; all others will get their fin clipped.

ï‚· Fish may be examined at the committee and weigh masterâ€™s discretion.

ï‚· All teams are responsible for the handling of their own fish after the weigh in is finalized. No fish are allowed to be thrown out or wasted.

ï‚· Awards and game feed will immediately follow the weigh in.
