i think thats pretty good considering the $$ you would need to drop on riggers to get that depth. with the way technology develops there ll be 150' dipsys sooner or later.

I'm considering getting riggers for my 08' Tracker V-17. In addition to functionality I'm concerned about mounting options and positioning of the units. For those of you who have been in a boat like mine, the gunnels are a bit low and causes you to reach for the rods because of the side rod lockers. I don't think they could be mounted in the very back corners because it would be a tough reach. There are also the rear well and battery compartments back there. If it was successful I've atatched a photo so you can see the approximate layout.

I've been told to avoid a mount that spans the back of the boat because of access issues...

I built these boards, painted them with 5 coats of water-based and they sit nice and low. I used old (30-40 year old) pine boards. They are quite a bit more dense than the new FSC crap. I have to say that in the rare instance they have to be pulled in during the middle of a trip, it is a pain in the neck, but its still better than fighting fish and inline boards all day. I cut the angle by hand with my grandfathers original hand saw...

I've used a variety of clips so far and don't yet have a favorite. I guess I prefer offshores with a shower clip the best so far, they are very easy to see. I think the right answer is whatever works best for you.

I got to test out my new homeade boards and homeade mast on Saturday. We ran size 82 walker divers with and without wire off of the boards using downrigger clips. I could barely notice any add'l drag on the boards. It took the straightness out of a short section of the tow line, but thats it. I would presume I could have run my 001 dipsys out on the end with the Walkers half way out...

I was just happy everything worked well. Managed six 6-10# browns and a king.

I see Walker has releases with double pads. Anyone ever use these? Looks like you could possibly run a flat line or a shallow dipsy under a deep dipsy using those clips. Link: http://www.walkerdownriggers.com/accessories.html

Seems like with the right size board and right release this is possible... Has anyone ever tried this out and have some suggestions as to diver size, trolling speed, board size, etc.?

Is it typical to run the spoons clean or run them behind a flasher? Seems like if they are hitting spoons behind dipseys they would be apt to take a spoon behind a flasher...

I'll be praying for the affected families. While its more obvious when fishing on cold and rough water, we should be prepared to meet our Maker at all times. The day and hour is unknown for each of us.

well, the weather man was wrong. called for less than 1' waves and wind out of the n.w. it was actually 3-5' waves and wind out of the n.e. i was by myself so near shore trout fishing was problematic bc if i let go of the wheel the boat would spin like a top. so i decided to get far from shore and look around. i marked alot of fish in 32-35 fow. so i ran 2 gold spoons behind a blue and black dipsey. i managed 1 nice laker (1st one ever actually), my guess is 8-10 lbs. let him go. no other bites and my stomach was begging for mercy so i went home.

I changed it Friday afternoon. It's nice to have a boat that does not steer like a 68' Mack anymore! I have to be better about PM after trips to the big salty. I had to cut the cable 2x to get it out of the steering tube. It is not a straight shot from the tube to the access hole. What i did was "modified" the access port so that the cable can be changed without loosening / removing the motor (i just love cutting holes in my boat)...The more i look at my boat, the more i question some of the design the engineers put into it.

One thing about my boat that really puzzles me is that all of the major electrical lines and cable from the helm to the motor run through a chase along the starboard side of the boat. That area is covered by a removable panel. That panel is mounted to the side of the boat with many screws that have to be driven in the direction of the wires... I can't believe that they are not protected in any way.

I have several other quirky things that i question, but in reviewing the newer models, it appears that they are getting smarter. Mine is an 08'. Anyone else have any gripes about their Pro-Guide?

Launch on Culver Road on the west side of the inlet?

I started the project when the weather was nice, but its been on hold a couple weeks now. Its a V-17 with a 90 hp Merc outboard. Even with the old cable disconnected from the steering wheel, i don't see how i can get it out of the steering tube without cutting it in 2. The cable is seized a bit in the steering tube, so i cannot get it to retract enough to make the bend through the access area (i have the back deck and side deck off too). i'm fearful that i may need to loosen or remove the engine. Maybe since the new cable is retracted all the way, it won't be a big deal...

i would welcome any advice from someone who has worked on this model or similar setup before. The teleflex instructions are pretty weak...

That would give a whole new meaning to doubles and triples. I think two guys reeling in fish on 3 rods is already challenging enough.

I have a job to do in Rochester next week and was considering hauling my boat out to fish for Browns. I assume that you fish the main lake outside of the bay??? Would you suggest going east or west out of the bay?

I dont think i'll bother again until we get a couple days of north or west wind to churn things up. It might also help create some pockets of variation in water temps. just my 2 cents.

Lots of fish in the area. I talked to several others at the launch that boated 10 or more browns in the morning. It sounded like the lures taking fish varied greatly. However, my crew and the crew on my buddies boat caught 90% of the fish on firetiger stickbaits. Most fish were 3-4 pounds. However I caught this beauty in 18 FOW just east of nine mile:

It was a great day on the water. We had a brown headed cowbird land on the boat and hang out for 10 minutes. He looked wooped from flying across the lake. I also had a brown cause me to drive a hook through and under my finger nail way past the barb. By God's grace, it actually came out quite easily. My fingers were cold enough I could not feel much.
