I like them.  It is amazing how a good rake of the mouse and the volume turned up can make my frown turn upside down.

Grouse taking off from under the snow right next to your foot.  That makes me pee just a little.

I bought a used 2000 last year and have yet to miss a bird.  (3" shells)  3 inch shells is good enough for me.  It came with 5 chokes but I replaced the turkey choke with a primos jelly head and like I said bird down.  Guy I got it from used it for duck hunting.  I wasn't really keen on the camo pattern for turkey but it is fine and I even left the plug in.  3 shells is plenty for turkey hunting - especially when you don't miss.  A guy I work with bought the 3500 and he is really happy with his too.  Only knock on these guns is from shooting steel and getting the inset chokes fused in with rust and barrell swell.  I haven't had any issues but I also do not repeat fire either or use steel.

If you have money to spend buy a versa max.

Nice deer.  I shot a deer once that showed no signs of being hit.  No blood or hair and bounded off with it flag up like nothing was wrong.  I couldn't see where the slug hit either.  I caught a whiff of something familiar and decided to still hunt after it and found it piled up about a hundred yards.  The angle was a liver stomach lungs angle so it filled up with blood.  Even after finding the deer could not back track where it had come from.  It can be easy to lose them.  Congratulations.

So are teenage girls jail bait?  or Buck bait?

Do you think those kids ever figured out that the deer was smelling something that made it act that way?  I won't go into that something smell but I have smelled it and I get horned up too.

1.30 when that steely took off, I said yeah too just like I was there with ya.  That is the addictive part right there. 

5.34 when your phone rang, my wife was watching too and I said that's his wife calling asking where the he-double-hockey-sticks are you? You were suppose to be home an hour ago.  I mean we have all been there...

6.45 Could be an illusion but it looks like the reel fell in the muddy water.  This part made me sad,,,  I like to place my fishing pole/rod handle down into my waders when landing a fish to keep it out of the water and mud.  Your gear - your methods - awesome video.

Goes for me too.  There are a lot of sophmores (wise fools) in the world today. 

Things happen.  Without mistakes we wouldn't learn what not to do.

I am ok with his post.  My internal shock meter barely moved, but I knew someone would judge his tactfulness.  For someone that grew up knowing Christmas presents were directly related to how good the garden produced and how well Mom and Dad did during deer season, I think it is fine.  In fact, I am happy for him.

Our family has lost several beagles.  It is hard for sure.

Those of you that let your dog run free, you have already substantially increased the odds that something bad will happen.  Whether you like it or not, feel it is just or not, free ranging your pets is risky.

Those of you considering killing a pet, I suggest you reconsider your alternatives.

My wife has to travel for work to various cities and my rule never changes.  Somebody has to travel with you or you are not going.  Never once did I consider to arm her.  I also told her never to leave her drink unattended.

I lost a stringer in the river one time and decided that the water wasn't that cold yet.  I got it back.  But I should have taken my wallet out and maybe some clothes...  But I got it back and it only had two walleye on it.

I got one of my stringers because I snagged it (Oswego) and it had a salmon on it.

Chris, I would be more upset about the walleye than the stringer.

They chase deer right thru my yard all the time, I hear them howl every day, There's 4 different packs of them. So I guess there's a few of them, Don't see the deer like we used to. Dec's way of controlling the deer population, To many car deer hit's, Now we're see Bobcats also, I wonder why they're coming back? Anybody got any idea's. This is in Tompkins County, Have you guys been seeing these in other Counties of New York, I know Tioga has them too.

Cats are prevalent Southern tier too.  People are asking me where the rabbits are and I tell them.  The only good places are near dwellings.  It is hard to find them away from them because they are getting hammered by birds of prey all the way down to yotes and bobcats.  They conducted studies and found that black bears acount for most of the fawns mortality.  Personally, I liked it better when humans were the major predator.  If you have posted land, encourage people to come in after muzzle loading to varmint hunt. 

Where i live in Oswego county there are lots of them. Any advice on the best way to hunt them ? I purchased an electronic caller last year but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Get some free kittens Put them in a spot where they Meewww a lot and wait.  Those dogs love P--  Kitty.  I noticed as the coyote population went up that the ferral cat population went down.

So I was going to give you the reason that my cousin told me (the same cousin that I call uncle Si) about how they get them from resting in the weed beds, however, I decided to check the internet.  1st hit describes it well.  I have seen it up stream quite aways but not all the way to the head waters.  I think it has something to do with layover places but I do not know what causes it for certain.  Check this out.  I do not see it in the winter or spring.  Only summer and fall.

Same thing happened to my Dad with his valve replacement.  He used a pistol and had us boys to help him if he got anything.  He had to hunt out of a blind instead of a stand and he ended up missing a deer but that was it.  Contender is an awesome weapon.  As I remember, the recoil was pretty significant.  I guess I understand where you are coming from, but nobody is going to tell you to go against your doctor's recommendation.  I'd take it  easy but that's more because my wife would pressure me cuz she wants me to (grow old with her) die of nothing all by myself in hospital when I am 90 something.

I started believing the Dr's had some idea of what they were talking about when they said "no fun loving with your wife for 1 month, no fun loving with anyone else for two months."  Must be some data there somewhere.

Beautiful.  I am showing my 8 year old daughter who has a lifetime sportsman license already.  No better way to show a young lady what she can do than by showing an example of it.  Her first buck is bigger than my best.  Congratulations.

I agree with both of you.  I kept a 30 incher once.  Still feel guilty about it but it reminds me why I let them go now.  She was so full of eggs and she didn't taste bad but not what I expect a walleye to taste like.  I was originally going to have a skin mount and changed my mind.  For those of you who want to tell me how to prepare them, I say to you that you are making my point for me.  BTW, I also let the 15 inchers go just because 3 more inches and the thickness almost doubles.  Give me a limit of 24 inchers and that's the lottery.  Haven't won it yet but I keep playing.

My opinion:  If you poach are a deer because you are starving it is extremely unfortunate.  If you poach a deer for a trophy, you are the worst scum of this Earth.  I hope karma kicks you in the jimmy.

Good point Pap.  I wear a life vest when I fish the rivers whether I am in a boat or not.  Had this one for about 4 years now.  It gets used a lot.  It saved me twice so far.  It is nice to know you won't sink when your waders fill up.  Holds enough tackle for my needs and recently I added a couple of pouches to carry more.

Agree.  There is nothing funny about launching in general.  To me it is the worst part about taking the boat out.

Going there this weekend.  Well, kinda going there.  I'll be closer to New Hampshire.  I tried to find info on the canal and the charter boats.  Looks like the striper action - for the big girls anyways is over.  I thought about just driving and learning this (for family) trip.  Asking some advice.  I am going to check on a mixed party trip.  I like Cod and Pollock and the rest of the fishing would be for fun.  Got to check the chumming forecast.  I do not like choppy seas.

You have a good set up for fishing the Hudson and that is closer.  Tides work the same way.  Back and Forth.  Middle of May every year.  Lots of big girls...
