Brian, not sure if he has hydraulic steering, or a dash console, if he does, Raymarine Ev-100 would be my suggestion. Doesn’t need any electronics to support running it. Love mine. Think I’m on my 8th year and has worked flawlessly for me.

If you have a FFinder that shows your weights on the screen , there is no need for a depth counter . The screen doesn't lie , and it's more accurate than your counter with or without blowback. Actually, the FF do lie. The angle that a transducer reads in feet is the same amount of cable that is out on the downrigger. What the FF can’t pick up is the actual depth of the ball due to blow back. It can only display what you think is the depth of the ball but is not accurate. You can perform this test by getting a fish hawk 4xd or a sub troll. So for example, FF shows my ball at 100ft, counter on DW says 100 ft. Fish hawk says I’m really at 90 ft. For what it’s worth.

I’m not sure why your not getting advice from the captains your mating for? Sounds like you already are in? Not looking for advice or opinions on whether you should or not correct? I guess my two cents, I’m not a captain, but for what it’s worth seek out people you know that are in the business. They can really give you the ground work on what they did to get them there. You’ll have to decide if it’s a 1) just like seeing smiles on faces and breaking even ( must have another source of income or finances ) because you’ll go broke one day or 2) looking to be profitable. If it’s the latter, treat it as no different than starting in like a business. Keep in mind hr for hr there’s a handful of captains that can make a living on it with out having the other source of income. Boy my heart goes out to these captains that literally break there back day in day out. Not saying you can’t but you probably already heard this tune. Good luck to your endeavors what ever you end up doing. I wouldn’t be upset about not hearing from any. Busy season as you know. This would be a great winter topic for them. There are many that will respond sooner or later.

What do you have on the battery at idle state with nothing on? Then what do you have on the battery with only the kicker running? (12.5v?). The difference should tell you if your kicker is putting a charge on.
